Selling the scoob for an E36 M3 Opinions??

Perhaps a tad overexaggerrated but get over to www.e36coupe.com and you will see with a change of throttle bodies, manifold, decat and induction, and a good example a 328I will pull 240bhp. However no matter what is done to M3 Evo, they rarely even hit BMW figures. Invariably bog standard ones are getting around 300bhp, and very little torque.

Is 260lbs/ft torque not very much in this day and age?
I know this is a stupid hypothetical question but I have seen it mentioned that the Impreza has more torque therefore the M3 has to change down to keep up, therefore if said Impreza and M3 Evo were in their highest respective gears cruising at say 60mph and they both stuck the pedal to the floor without changing gear, would the Impreza pull away from the M3?

Alan just to add to 51st states comments and others i have just gone down this road personally myself in buying an1996 3.2 twin vanos six speed m3 evo and have to say its feckin brilliant,
i have had various rwd cars over the years and my recent highly modded white subaru has now shat itself (lost compresion on one cylinder) that i am really feeling that i am coming to the end of my patience with flat four turbo engines yes they are quick when modded, but i just did aintree track day courtsey of liverpool motorclub in the new m3 and thoroughly enjoyed it, it stuck to the road hardly ever slid and when it did it was controllable 0 understeer unlike all my scoobs which have been set up and are supposed to handle
(whiteline eveything, tein and powerstation setup). and before anyone asks i have done about ten trackdays in scoobs including aintree twice and never really enjoyed them like i did t`other day as this evo m3 straight out of box with original wheels and all that has been done is it was lowered with uprated spring kit which prob helps alot, it felt so safe and confident on track compared to scoob which would often feel twitchy in some instances so it`s a big thumbs up for me with the evo and as others have said perhaps scoobs give an average driver the feeling of invicibility on the road whereas an m3 evo is just pure classic handling, perhaps you should try one first and i bet you won`t look back,
only buying advise i can give is the m3 is a solid motor just find one with a recent vanos replacement proof as i did, they can go at anytime but usually around the 100k mark if replaced and oil changed regularly should be good for another 100k, also these motors burn far less fuel than scooby engines.

allo to add to the e36 issues yes the suspension bushes do wear but don`t they all on 12 yr old cars replace with polybushes and should sort the probs for quite a while

fwdnuts thanks for your comments mate
Ideally i'd like an E46 but doubt that will happen! I'll just have to look for a while and buy a good un that's maybe had vanos and bushes changed.
