What sort of mileage do you get from a tank of fuel in one of these, with a reasonable mixture of cruising at 50/60 and slower town driving?? I take it that to fill one from empty would be c70quid too??

50/55 litre tank on these I think...... I put 45 litres in when it very low to fill it to the brim.
I've done 280 miles on the last 24hrs as just back from a funeral and there's about 1/4 of tank left.
Good for 35 on run and mid 20s normal driving. Figures obviously differ on how much life is left in the engine and how well maintained it has been.
I had a 230 that would struggle to do 15mpg, but it had done 500k miles and had no history at all and seemed that it hadn't been servicedfor a while as the oil was a bit gunged up!

Bloody hell, I never imagined you could break the 30mpg barrier.. honestly thought you were gonna say 22-23 at best on a run. Going to add this to the list as I keep an occasional eye out for a bargain Estate to cart the dog around in.

It's looking at giving around 33mpg with 70% motorway and the rest 'normal' driving.
Did a few miles today and up to 335 miles from a full tank with a few litres still left as the light has yet to come on.
The 230E engine was developed for that car and was used for years with the 124 using it, unlike the 280E that has a 1970s engine that will give you high teens economy iif you're lucky.
The 230 is more economical the the derv models and the one to go for . Its 136bhp is plenty too.
I've had a real good look over this one and it's spot on. Won't take much to get it to almost immaculate level. It polishes up a treat and gets the heads turning. I'm going to give it a proper clean/polish and will put some pics up at some point.

MPG tends to be down to how the engine has been looked after througout its life.
I've had a fair few of these and 124s with the same engine they've all varied in economy, with the better looked after ones all giving 30+.
This ones been serviced every 6000 miles over its 147k mileage and is as sweet as a nut - it doesn't even seem to burn any oil at all.
I got 344 miles after driving with the fuel light on for a bit and filled up with 49 litres to brim it so I reckon that's ~32mpg on mixed use, inc 200 miles of motorway.
Probably 25ish on normal mixed use, but better than my Audi A6 that struggles to do 20.
