Hi Alan,
after a ride in the 627 bhp car mentioned above, I'm feeling a bit down....

Have you ever done a "before 2.0" and "after 2.1" RR session using the same turbo ?

I'm really interested in how much earlier it would spool, as mine is a bit laggy then hits like a mule around 4000 rpm.

TIA

dunx

I suppose we must have somewhere! I'll see what Martyn can dig up.
Any 2 litre is better off as a 2.1 and that's a fact!

BTW we have a cure for your depression....

Alan, I'm off round to see bigarf as the car caught fire yesterday, a blown oil cooler hose...

I'm on an MD321H at around 400 bhp, but she spools a bit late for the spec.

Hence my interest.

TIA

The cooler was one of the few bits we used from the original car! Rats..
The improved spool is what it's all about.

How scary that Arf had just been to Halfords for a decent extinguisher - we were off to York today to see her stretch her legs....
Well apart from being covered in extinguisher powder the car has survived....

Apart from the fancy up-pipe which is cracked to buggery at the turbo flange, not due to the fire methinks !

dunx

P.S. This time I can't tell whether Arf was lucky, or even more unlucky....

P.P.S. Some git bought the S-CDB I was about to send you, dammit !

An extinguisher needs to be a priority! they are compulsory on competition cars for a reason..
Tell Arf to send the up pipe down, we'll take a look at it.
As to luck, any landing you can walk away from is a good one!

i will second that alan, a fire extinguisher should be a must in any car and after that i will always carry one from now on.as for the oil cooler hose bursting its just one of those freek things that happened that is no ones fault and no one could ever forsee happening.now down to my local menda hose for some nice new braided ones i think.

Hi Alan,
I have a 1995 wrx which has just developed a bearing rattle,
I have just read all the way through the 11 page's and would like to no what options i have for it, I am not looking for it to be to powerfull due to drivetrain but your stroker kit sounds very tempting.
As a short block does it come with a oil pump?
Would it be ok to run it in on the standard ecu or would it require a different ecu strait away?
Would my block require any extra maching to take the crank?
Thanks in advance.
Kieron.

Hi..
I'd guess your block is the stock open deck which could have either centre or rear thrust main bearings. The rear thrust is the one that doesn't require machining. It's hard to tell which one you have without opening it up.
Apart from that, the longer stroke crank fits right in there.
Our advertised short block doesn't come with an oil pump, although of course we can supply one, or anything else you need.
I wouldn't see any reason why you couldn't run the car temporarily on the stock ECU, although it would need to be replaced with an aftermarket alternative to set it up properly. It's all about going steady in the meantime.

I am thinking of having this engine fitted to mine but the question is how far to go, you see I have a autobox in mine and that needs to stay for now. I am thinking 320bhp to be safe. And what turbo would offer that?

A VF35 would be perfect at that level of one of Scoobyclinic's billet turbos but i think this engine is huge overkill for this sort of power. **** it and go for 400

Apart from the build you want to take into account a 6 speed as your 5 speed won't handle the power

All gaskets ans seals are new genuine Subaru apart from the Cosworth head gaskets.

Detail of the pipework, we blast clean and paint. It's surprising how many corroded ones we weed out.
