Regardless, it shouldnt damage the engine. Subaru would be bust by now through warranty replacements if that was the case.

Jeff - That broken bolt doesnt appear to have exessive stretch, measure the depth of the bolt hole compared to the others. During machining it is possible the hole wasnt drilled quite deep enough and the bolt is bottoming out, during assembly it would have hit torque from bottoming instead of pressure ontop of the cam cap. Just trying to think of possible causes of the broken bolt. Or it could just have been a defective bolt.

In work we have only had one engine ever with a snapped cam, and that was an engine eval engine that was run without oil flat out.

Worth checking.

The six speed on the Sti's has very short ratios for the 2003 STi and so suited to the 8,250rpm limit.

7,000rpm + revs are often needed when on track or doing drag strips.

If your only using an STi to 6,000rpm you may as well have bought a WRX

One of my cam cap bolts snapped about 6 or 7mm into the head, took the head off to find it had also cracked between the spark plug hole and the exhaust valve seat. GUTTED!

Does this sound feasible why it could seem to be loosing power? Im leaning more towards the knock bit...

On a brighter note, just had a call from my mate and the parts have just come in stock.. so Fingers crossed!!

Does sound very plausible indeed mate. I'm still gobsmacked it's had enough force to snap the camshaft yet the valves are undamaged.

As for power you'll just have to wait and see what its like when its fixed. I think i read something on here lately with regard to running in new cams. Might ne worth checking to see what the procedure is.

Cool cheers mate. My mate bought it back from the garage tonight and it sounds a million dollars just a very little rattle from the turbo heat shield which if held completly stops Is there just bolts to tighten up on the turbo heat shield??

Hes just taking it back to the garage tomorrow to do the gearbox and diff oils for me tomorrow!

Didnt know you would need to run in new cams, will have a look and see if i can find the post now. Cheers
