Default Update

Right , I have been looking for a while to find the cheapest way for us to make these ,... and making them out of stainless tbh we couldn't match the prices which you can currently buy them for ... i am basing prices on 30 pieces because of the tooling we need even though I know there is only a handfull of ya's wanting them .....

Ally pieces would be around the £35 mark for the weld on pieces and £30 for the tube pieces .

Let me know what you think .... stainless is just so dam expensive

Why would a weld on item be dearer than a tube'd bit chris?

[QUOTE=frayz;8126509]Why would a weld on item be dearer than a tube'd bit chris?[/QUOTE

Because of the machining process to create the 3" rad and the machines we have

The tube pieces are much easier for us to take and wouldn't take as long

Would it be possible to have one that has an ID of 85mm in the middle and tapers to 63mm at either end?

That way you get max headroom but still able to weld it into 2.5" intercooler piping.

Hes a quick drawing on paint... dont laugh

Here the sizes are estimates but about what i think they should be. Also you can see that i placed the MAF boss nearer to the end of the flow so the incoming air has some pipe to fill before passing the MAF.

Im no air-flow engineer but from what ive seen this would be ideal.

Another note...

Make sure the ends have good meaty lips on the ends. Remember these will be subject to boost and we dont want the boost hoses blowing off.

Personally im gonna weld mine but im guessing most guys will want to use silicone joiners.

cheers,
Your ECU MAF scaling will have to be redone for a blow through anyway, might aswell do it with a much more robust newage MAF element.

Do you have a FMIC and VTA DV by any chance.

05/06 20G + fmic + ive tried all sorts of different combinations of dump valves to cure it.. even running two ( one hot side and one cool side of fmic )
and none!..but in reality it really needs this blow through system to completely eradicate it. Only happens when coming off boost, 5th gear when slowly closing throttle.

Using a different maf wouldnt be a problem, just an extra cost i could have avoided if my maf fitted. I have a power fc self mapped so another maf can be adjusted for pretty easily.

looking forward to getting one. If it needs testing i have no problem doing some tests.. would need a denso maf too though.

cheers,

Would need at least 10 to make them cost effective .

The lengths can change at no added cost

Like over 300bhp headroom?

I would suggest around 75mm will still give you more than enough.

Too big and you start to lose resolution at idle and lowrange.

Have you tried the MY97/98/V3/4 OEM DV? Has worked for me on every 20G (and larger) turbo install with FMIC and std MAF location.

MY99/00 MAF element in a blow through configuration is asking for trouble IMHO.

Andrew...

Well my 70mm APS unit didnt have that much headroom at approx 400bhp.

Maybe 80mm will do then.
