EVO v STI over on MLR
Same old silly arguments getting trotted out. You would have thought that as both makes do a fantastic job of providing relatively cheap performance whilst flattering their drivers, there would be mutual respect.
I drive an Impreza because I found one which suited me - cheap quickish good handling family estate. I think it's great, but if there was an equivalent Evo I would have tried that too.
Some good friendly rivalry (which some people of both sides have shown) is how it should be. Comments branding drivers of the other make as 'chavs' etc. are just daft.
People on either forum slagging off the other just looks bad on all of us.

what a fookin tool.
Most Evo drivers out there have come from scoobs etc like myself, no offence mate, but doesn't that tell a story?
I am not into bashing cars Ive had in the past, because my sti was more than capable of matching my current Evo, but your post is complete b0llocks my friend.

SO you now have an Evo. Well done.
What you obviously don't realise that I have been a member of the MLR longer that I have SN.
The MLR has changed for the worse in the last 5 years. Most Ex-EVO owners willattest to that.
So when it comes to being a tool, you my friend am a very large digger of holes.
Next time do some homework.
You might not look so foolish

well....ring a fookin ding..ding....so fookin what?

What the hell has that got to do with anything....?
You insinuated most Lancer owners used to own Corsa's b4 buying an Evo...right......bit of a jump on the old budget that aint it.
I wasn't even saying anyhting about the MLR...I was calling you a tool because you were obviously talking out of where your brains are....your ar$e.

After going back through the posts on here today, Ive acted a t1t in places, for that I apologise, I rubbed up Hol the wrong way, if you took offence mate, im sorry about that, maybe my use of the word "tool" was not particuarly called for, as for the marques, I love em both.

maybe need to change supplier
Only joking
Well now the dust has settled after those two gayhers arguing, I think Budgie did pretty good against a stripped out evo. The MLR guy obviously has talent (unlike our poor budgie
) and you must give them both credit for taking part.
Couldnt give a toss about the debate/arguement on both forums, I ahve read this one and the MLR and some comments are as bad as each other. Got mates with evo's and we all love jap cars..end of.
Bit of banter is always fun

great point but sory to start all this up that wasnt a fair race budgie is car is quick its a newage racing against a stripped out evo not fare race at all i wonder what would of happend had the scooby been striped out as well im sure the score would of ben budgie 5 evi 0
u get an evo 5 or 6 runining 400bhp and get scooby classic runining 330 classic type r. theres only one in winner and we all now its the scooby.an evo will always need an extra 100 or 150 bhp to keep up with a scoobie. u need a 700bhp evo to crack a 10 sec quarter mile while in the subaru 550 to 600 classic with a good driver should easily cruise in the 10s
both cars are great in diffrent areas and conditions.
Swap the Evo 5 for a Evo IX for a like for like comparison and see how the results vary...
Even a 500bhp Evo IX would probably struggle to beat that Evo 5 on those tests. It done very well at TOTB as well I believe..
Well Done Budgie, Representing even in an unfair test!

Well done to both drivers. I think the two were more evenly matched than is being made out here though. Fair enough there may be some interior missing from the Evo but the Scoob was 40bhp up on it so IMO not much in it. All came down to the better package/driver.
Have to say I love both cars...and they are designed for one purpose IMO. To be abused!
Of course I love my Scooby but I have to admit...like for like, a 98/99 evo is much better equipped standard than an Sti. Has anyone here stamped on the standard brakes on an evo 5? They are fecking amazing. Sti standard brakes of a similar year are poor.
So I would say the evo's have always been ready for hard use straight out of the box.
All IMHO
Alan

Weight makes a big difference in handling and in straight line acceleration, the extra BHP would only really come in effect for top speed (where power wins).
Like for like would be a 1998 STI 5 RA stripped and modified to 400bhp against the 1998 Stripped Evo 5 RS.
You have to remember the RS also cam standard with shorter gearing which would have been an advantage in a 0-90 dash. The RA is a like for like example.
Or put up a new Evo IX against Budgie's car. If a test comparison is made it should be fair in comparisons.

I'd take a weight saving of 100kg over an increase of 40bhp anyday.
