i thought about getting rid of my scoob but cant bear the thought, so instead I'm going to change my job to one close to home with no commute

 

my version 1 sti limited edition sits in the garage and rarely does more than 500 miles between mot's, never comes out if theres even a chance of some damp stuff, it used to be an every day car but it is now strictly a weekend toy and lovingly cherished.

my mazda 6 on the other hand is used for a 40 mile a day round trip to the office and other general running about and gets ragged sensless just to try and get a little enjoyment out of it.

 

around 30k a year, use it every day, as for fuel cost it does not bear thinking about so i live in little dream bubble where it costs me a tenner a week!!!!!!!! makes me much happier

 

live nr Cambridge -- but working on a project in Reigate

so am doing 200 mile round trip 4/5days a week, petrol about £30 a day

only had the car 2 weeks (MY99 wagon) so she's working for her beans

no use at the weekends due to wife and 5 kids

 

I'm sorry, but are those last two posts taking the p1ss? 30,000 miles @ 25mpg and £5.50/gallon is £6,600 a year on fuel. £30 per day, 5 days a week for 48 weeks a year is £7,200 a year. You must surely be spending a lot of time on the motorway so why have such a fuel inefficient car? Change it for a diesel and you can still sit in the outside lane, but you'll save thouands of Pounds a year and that's before you take into account servicing/tax/tyres etc. Madness.

I'm from the "I bought it so I'll drive it stable",everywhere.
As I said in a previous post I bought it to quell my need for excitement after stopping enduro riding.
My wife drives a Renault Scenic but given the choice I'll always take the Scoob,I find excuses to take it out.
Do shift work 2 days,2 nights and 4 off,16 mile round trip to work,approx £40 fuel every 6~7 days.
I'm pretty new to scooby ownership so I haven't noticed the sharp rise in running costs this has to have a bearing on my views;I knew they were juicy before I bought it so I'm getting what I expected.
Blueblaster you are right but you must also consider that people buy these cars rarely for sensible reasons and usually because they have a passion for them,surely otherwise we'd all be driving around it Citrobmwfordvaux TDi's saving loads of money and......errr,I don't really know

 

Nope not taking the ****! nope not motorway miles eithier well not most of the time. And my reason, because i can! dont believe in wasting my life doing things i dont like so i drive a car which makes me happy, when im bored of it i will change it. Dont like the fuel price, dont like the tax price but it at the moment it wont stop me from having the car i want. Madness maybe but at least i dont look as miserable as most road users

Yeah I know...I'm used to it. I could happily write a post about how I did 100mph up the local high street at 3am, justifying it because everyone is in bed, but point out that doing huge mileages in a Scoob is financially ludicrous and I'm public enemy number one. Am I bovvered?
