Cool

You were unlucky mate, but speed Kills your tyres ! and 9 points on your licence to boot......6 for being 20mph over the limit and probably 3 for the dangerous driving ! Hate to see your insurance bill next year M8 !

Ima - you need to look at the positive aspects of this. For dangerous driving and racing you will probably get a 2 year ban. You can use these two years to save up and buy a proper car when you get your licence back. It will probably have to be a micra or similar though, cos you wont be able to insure anything until at least 2007 You could always tell them that you have a really small ****, and feel that being able to spin your wheels makes you feel more like a man. Telling the truth is always the best policy.

FB you forgot to mention that magistrates are from the local area and generally are from a sector of the public that are able to make the time available to listen to such cases.

I wonder how many 40 and overs don't like the fact Southend gets invaded every weekend by people wheelspinning and speeding around.

20mph over the limit you are looking at least 6 points
Inciting someone to speed/racing is 3 to 12 points
Dangerous driving 3-ban

Then of course there is the fine and court costs, insurance hikes and bus fares to consider.

Remember the Police and courts really take a dim view of driving while banned, that can end up with a custodial sentance.

I had a friend get caught by a GATSO in 30 limit he was doing 51mph and he got a 56 day ban.

With the current stance on speeding especially in 30 limits I would really be concerned.

Of course if you started spinning the wheels before the lights were green then you could also look at...

TS10 Failing to comply with traffic light signals 3 points.
TT99 Totting up of offences to give you a ban!

For 50 in a 30 you take what is coming - drive at more than the limit and take your chances mate.

For wheel spinning and being a little boy racer **** I hope they take your licence away for a few months and send you off on a skateboard (no on second thoughts it has wheels as well and you'd probably be a lunatic on it as well).

....I'd be surprised if 90% or more of posters on this board haven't ever done the same thing....

Diablo - I'd be surprised if even 10% of of the posters here had tried to raced a police car away from the lights

Hmmm...this was not on the sea font as racing there IS dangerous..this was up a side street in the dry, late at night with no traffic plus i pulled away gently, then floored it which caused the wheels to spin, but i was not swaying all over the shop!!!Got to around 50mph,then backed off, then there was traffic so speed limit till pulled...i admitted to them i was speeding....but dangerous driving or even racing is NOT what i was doing, that is why i wanted some sympathy...because i thought us performance car people stuck together...but obviously not..Some of you Scooby drivers are too far up your self.Period.

But hey i was in Southend on a Saturday night in a Cosworth..so i am guilty.

Presuming you are looking at Driving without due care and attention you'll probably get 6 points and a fine... around £200 depending on your spare cash once you have filled in the income, outgoings form...

Not sure how much the Police can prove or have evidence for, but that doesn't seem to stop them. Although they are doing what they feel is best I guess.

I got done for CD10 - Driving without due care and attention..
due to an accident.. lost it on a bend and hit a car head on (we all make mistakes sometimes) but I felt it was exactly that a mistake, I was not speeding etc.. but I got 6 points and £200 + £35 costs..
I sent it off the NIP and didn't appear at court as it was easier.. I didn't want to re-live the accident, let alone infront of a court..
I am just greatful I didn't hurt anyone else.

I presume the Policemans statement would be read out in court so there is no point trying to say it was accidental wheels spin.. also no point saying you were not used to the car unless you haven't owned it long..

Sounds like best option is to say sorry and that you have learnt lots from it etc...

goodluck anyway

JGM

Ima, it dont look good does it? I personally think you should admit the speeding but not admit the dangerous driving or incitement. Say you hit a patch of diesel, oil, even water. explain how the car is fitted with an lSD which prevents one wheel spinning up and as such if you had lit em up then you would have been all over the road. Try to put across how difficult the car is to drive and how it can catch you out at any moment. Explain how the car is your pride and joy and you would never do anything to abuse it and that the wheelspin took you by surprise. If you make out like you didnt mean to do it and couple that with admitting the speeding then you might stand a chance.
astraboy.
P.S. if it makes you feel any better then I was doing exactly the same as you at an undisclosed location on the weekend you got caught.

I lived in and around Southend for most of my life, certainly since becoming interested in and owning cars. The local rules are well known to one and all - they come down very hard on speeding in the area over the weekend. The local police use a wide range of unmarked cars and everyone knows this, everyone also knows they are especially vigilant during the weekend when owners from out of town come down for a "cruise". I would fully expect the maximum possible offence to be registered against you as this is what they do to ALL speeding offenders who demonstrate a disregard for other road users and, more importantly, speed limits. I would say I speak for 99.9% of users of Scoobynet when I state that we have all broken the speed limit on many occassions, but usually when conditions permit and almost certainly not to the wrong side of 50mph in a 30mph zone.

This is not a "go" at the offender or an attempt to preach to other people who take part in meets on Southend seafront. It is simply a statement of fact based on freely available knowledge if you have lived in the area or have attended a few of the meets which happen there. If anyone speaks to the people gathering at various parts of the seafront about the "event" they will warn you about the unmarked cars which are around and they can usually tell you where and when you can exploit your car's performance that evening with minimal risk. However, if a few cars behave like this the local police arrive very quickly and you do need good observation to spot the unmarked cars before they spot and stop you.

Yex - now living in the country where the roads are more fun

Ima, you have my sympathy. That's not to say that I condone what you did, no doubt there are thousands of similar occurrences every weekend night, but you were in the wrong place at the wrong time and are going to pay.

Everyone should consider the consequences of driving quickly (not necessarily speeding). The benefits are the fun factor, arriving earlier, the joy of man and machine in perfect harmony ... drifts off The disadvantages are higher insurance, petrol bills etc. and the fact that one day you may be fined/banned.

We all weigh these pros and cons up and (perhaps subconsciously) set our own appropriate speed.

You are perhaps now realising that you didn't get the balance right. If you had your time again would you swap all those black rubber stripes, handbrake turns etc. for driving sedately and not getting nicked? I doubt it.

</preach>

Good luck anyway. Everyone, even trolls, should be treated equally under the law. Keep us informed, as your experience may help others avoid a similar fate.

No we just don't act like 17yr old Max Power ****. Take it to the track and if you do want to use all that power (!!!!) suggest you do it out of town on a quiet B road with a 60 limit and no coppers.

Sorry M8 I love performance cars as much as the next guy, but driving like an **** in town will win no sypathy on here. Hope you're fine and points aren't too high and that you've learnt your lesson.

One last thing, anyone who behaves like a road thug near Southend on cruise night is asking for trouble. its only the biggest cruise in the country and as such the police are GOING to be there. Thats why I hardly ever go to southend cos its no fun. If you will insist on acting like Barry Sheviles [sp] at santa pod (fun as it maybe ) then for gods sake do it somewhere where you stand a chance of not being caught.

"Being court summoned with 2 other cossies"

If you aren't getting the option to plead by post you are staring down the barrel of a ban.

For goodness sake take your licence with you (both parts if you have a photo licence), if you do get a ban you loose the licence straight away.
