Mark:- have you ordered this from JustKenwood web site. Its the only place that seems to do them for this price!. The shop has quoted £100 more , I'll either order mine from the web site or forget it and get a single din

Hi mate. I got them from caraudiosecurity but not direct from there website.
They sell them for £349.99 on the Amazon.co.uk marketplace. Delivery is only £4.95 standard or £7.95 1 day courier.
Hope this helps mate

I'm all booked in for a install tomorrow. Getting the DDX 5022, comp speakers up front(170mm), 12inch sub and amp. Spent way way more than I was intending to, one thing led to another, as it always does with cars. Made even worse when they demo'd a full system with sub, really shows what you miss out on, don't even have to turn it up load to get the benefit from it.
Anyways, all will be fitted with top quality cables, dynamat doors too, speaker adators.

After it was all fitted,
Head unit is a Kenwood DDX 5022, up front in the doors are Kenwood S702P 6 1/2inch comp speakers, boot holds the Kenwood amp and 12inch sub 350w. Had the sub box mounted in such a way that it can be took out when the full boot is needed (if & when), and I can still get to the space saver as it is.
Sounds awesome, never had a sub before so wasn't intending on getting one, but my local shop has very good salesmen, a quick demo and I was sold
Stick a DVD on with good sound effects and it just blows you away.
Still plenty of room as it is, but box can be taken out quickly if needed,

Lokks fantastic Darren . I have also fitted my 5022 and really pleased with it. Also ordered the ipod and bluetooth connectors. I have added a 7" LCD to the unit for my daughter in the back! Thinking of getting a sub in the near future.

The head unit came with a USB cable, so they have routed it to the glove box. Just need to get a memory stick of some sort, and I'll use that to store my music on and the cd slot for the DVD's.
Just not sure what size of memory stick to get though, they start from 1gb up to 8gb (think a 1gb will hold a fair amount of albums), but I also have to watch out for one that works on windows Vista. Then I guess I can use it to add wallpapers to the main screen.

1. most people don't take the fascia with them, so any potential thief breaks open the glovebox knowing they are likely to find the "removable" panel in there.
2. double DINs look more bespoke/factory fit so less attractive to thieves looking to score a quick hit;
3. most double DINs are screwed into the car infrastructure, so more time-consuming to steal;
4. less cars have double DINs so less market/demand for replacements hence so less attactive to thieves.
5. double DINs being more expensive are harder and arouse more suspeicion to shift quickly.
Just my own thoughts.

Personally I think then opposite for the following reasons:

I'm not sure about some of your points, double dins are certainly nickable as they generally cost more, and judging by the prices on ebay seem to hold their value.
As above, for me the choice comes down to whether you want a screen up front, if you do or want sat nav/better ipod control, then it's a good choice. You will get better sound quality for the money with single din though.

yep, "bang per buck" is higher with a single DIN
My main reasoning for the other points is based upon what I understand drives most opportunist stereo thefts....drugs. By far the highest proportion of thefts is by people who need a hit (of whatever), who will do a car and sell on the stereo for £5-10 to pay for their next hit. They will take the easist route to acquiring this money, and generally it will be the single DIN that appears the easiest to remove and shift afterwards. Yes doubles look more expensive and will fetch more profit for organised gangs, but this not by any means the highest proportion of thefts.
That's my opinion based upon what I know and what I hear. It is by no means backed up with reams of statistics that I have ready to produce, just from what I pick up from talking to the professional bunch of people who attempt to put right the mess from these crimes afterwards.
Personal experience:
Single DIN thefts: 4 (out of 10)
Factory fit thefts: 0 (out of 4)
Double DINs thefts: 0 (out of 2)
Hope that hasn't cursed it !!

My way of thinking was that the double unit is screwed into place, so half the dash has to come off first to get it out.......It that something they are going to spend time doing, or go for the quick smash and grab's?.

iPod
Is it right that these units only need the optional iPod cable to play videos through the head unit? The webiste seems to suggest it has 'direct play' so you can play audio from your iPod using the usb connector and the standard cable that comes with the iPod?

I didnt have an I-pod so no cable, just the one that comes with it, which is a USB. use a memory stick to store x20 odd aldums., its plays dvd's, so get the videos that ways. It should play a video i-pod fine though,
