My PS3 has been reliable, but on the other hand I hardly ever turn it on. I've now been through 11 Xbox 360s
I'd still rather have the 360 over the PS3 though...
p.s. The update downloaded and installed in 10 minutes for me. I then proceeded to try and play super stardust. Said it needed an update, so I clicked ok, and then had to wait nearly 45 minutes for it to download and install. Makes me think it's not my network connection that's slow at all (seeing as the update came down quickly), but the dodgy PSN...

Surely not, Sony is a repuitable company, oh wait....
On a brighter note...
From sophos.com:
Researchers at IT security firm Sophos have warned lovers of video games that pages on the US-based Sony PlayStation website have been compromised by hackers.
Experts at SophosLabs™ have discovered that cybercriminals have successfully used an SQL injection attack to plant unauthorized code on pages promoting the PlayStation games "SingStar Pop" and "God of War".
At the time of writing the hacker's code attempts to dupe web surfers by running a fake anti-virus scan and displaying a bogus message that their computer is infected with a variety of different viruses and Trojan horses.
The hackers' aim is to scare unsuspecting computer users into purchasing a bogus security product. Sophos warns, however, that it would be trivial for the hackers who have compromised the webpages to alter the payload so that it became more malicious, and installed code designed to turn Windows PCs into a botnet or to harvest confidential information from users.
For those who have updated, other than trophies you get...
Sony Pulls PS3 v2.40 Firmware Update
We contacted SCEA immediately, and here's the official reply:
"We are aware of a limited number of consumers experiencing an issue with installing firmware 2.40 on PS3. While our consumer services department has seen a low volume of calls on this topic, we are committed to enabling the community and XMB access features delivered in the 2.40 update. In order to further assess the issue, we have temporarily taken the firmware offline for further testing. We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up."

Are you PS3 owners for real .... I thought Console was the king of kings, welcome to the last two years.I'll admit that the Xbox has had it's tech troubles ( not on my launch day machine ) But Sony are only now catching up with what the 360's UI shipped with !
Don't get me wrong I'm a gamer first and a fanboy second so I will in future buy a PS3 ( when it's £99 with Dualshocks and GT5 ). But you guys defend your purchase on the back of Blu Ray that no many people care about outside us tech geeks.
come on admit it Sony has been shafting you guys for years now and you love it

2X360 0XRROD HD gaming since Dec 06
When i returned my first PS3 because it stopped reading discs after 4 days (probably 2 hours use) Gamestation told me they had nothing but returned faulty PS3's lately but no returned 360's.
Ive got 3x 360 consoles and had 1x PS3......... The PS3 broke.

I'm still amazed so many people willingly hand over their hard-earned cash to Microsoft for a piece of hardware with a known problem that Microsoft seem to be not too bothered about correcting and just extending warranties but still leaving owners without a console for a period of time whilst it's repaired!
Sony may have been slow on some things but Microsoft really should have sorted this issue once and for all in my opinion.

I have no opinions on the xbox as I have never owned one, I have always had consoles and have always enjoyed the gaming I have had on all my playstaions over the years
as someone previously said, this thread was created for PS3 owners to discuss PS3 updates, so other than those of you who own both please explain to us how the PS3 updates affect xbox owners. And why xbox owners feel the need to slate the PS3 at every given opertunity

Are you Xbox boys for real? Cooling fans and heat sinks have been around for ages!! It's time Microsoft caught up!!

The other comments about Fanboyism well you have me on that one for this generation of consoles. My comment is only on the fact that for months your PS3 has been touted as the King of kings. I'm reading the update stuff for the first time today and really couldn't believe you only now getting what the 360 shipped with. I didn't even know until yesterday that the rumble wasn't standard

And thats the beauty of Forums ..... I can comment on what I like
As Pete pointed out this is a PS3 firmware thread, however it needs pointing out your post is totally inaccurate, MS have redesigned the 360, currently on it's third revision and rumours are another improved revision due Christmas.

sensitive? some maybe but not me, as I said I could not really give a to$$ either way I am happy with my PS3 and nothing will change that. I was just trying to understand why those who know nothing about it still feel they need to say something, i know i know freedom of speech and all that crap but still,,,,
I can only go on my personal Xbox failure rate of 0%.

To be honest, the fact that 360 had some of these features is all well and good, but then again, I'm sure the majority of people didn't really feel that menu acces during game and rumble were adequate compensation for several failures and only re-conditioned mahcines from MS
I could say I can't believe MS didn't include a HD DVD player or Bluray, but it's pointless. The machines are what they are, you paid your money and made your choice.
The PS3 is improving all the time, I'm sure the 360 is too (excpet that the hardware is junk, not much you can do about that
).Geezer

Anyway, as I said before in this thread and as Cupra Dave has said, I don't care what the XBox 360 can and can't do. I haven't got one, I don't want one, I'm happy with my PS3 and so are all my friends who also have PS3's.

You have friends that have PS3s?
Of all the console gaming people that I know, I'm the only who has one (all the rest have 360s).
Anyway, back to the update discussion.......

Might be the 3rd revision, but they are still failing....hence my comment that they still haven't fully corrected the problem yet. So not totally inaccurate at all, I didn't say they haven't tried to correct it, I said they haven't corrected it, because they are still failing!

Both machines are as good as each other, but each to their own. I will never understand fanboys.......................
But ilke you said, back to the update discussion, does anyone actually know when it will be put back on?
Geezer
Funny you should say that, because all of my gaming friends have PS3s. One had a 360 and sold it for a PS3, the other who has both never switches the 360 on because he prefers the PS3!

This is harking back to my youth...."Which is better...the Amiga or the Atari ST?"
I've got the latest update for the PS3, did it last night. Haven't actually played it since though.

As above you should have both and a Wii. I have 2 360's a PS3 and a Wii (plus an original xbox, gamecube, ps1 ps2, psp and ds) and all are good on their own merits. The only problem I have is choosing which one to play
