not burning much probably a little bit more than when it was on standard internals. I have no easy way to chekc oil temps unless i get a oil temp gauge setup. What would be the difference in the chrono 10w40 vs the competition 15w50 with my setup? Im just looking for the best oil/ grade to use for it, more upgrades over the next few months will see power up to about 420 hopefully, about 340 now.

At the moment a 10w-40 is the best option as it's not burning much, so you'll keep a good flow rate with the oil. When you up the power, the oil temp will go up, making the 15w-50 more likely to be the best option.

ok thanks for the info, whats the max temps that the 10w40 can deal with before you need to jump to the 15w50? i might get a temp gauge installed for the oil and see what its peaking at.

The top end for the 10w-40 is about 130C.

Hi Tim,

Just got my first Impreza a 98 WRX Import wagon with 97k on it. Standard apart from dump valve. I reckon it might be using a bit and had a recent change with 10w40 but from receipts and history that came with the vehicle it has previously also run on 10w60 and 5w30.
I want to do an oil and filter change, what would you recommend please?

The best ones are the Gulf Competition, Motul 300V, Redline and Millers CFS. As a cheaper alternative the Fuchs XTR, Motul 6100 and Millers XSS are good choices.

The CFS is a very good oil, but I'd go for a 5w-40 rather than 10w-40 to get better cold start protection.

Could you advise what oil to use? Will probably be looking at changing it soon and then again in 6 months or so, with a full service.

If it is just for road use and a daily drive etc then I would go with a 5w-40 synthetic, especially as it will soon be winter!

Hi, which oil for a v7 wrx mapped to 280bhp (also lpg) with K&N panel filter, fully de-catted, TD05 turbo rebuilt engine with ACL race bearings, V9 sti conrods and supertech pistons? I was running Fuchs pro R 15w50 before with no problems but piston rings weren't at their best. With everything back to how it should be, was wondering what would be best. Just point out that the car hasn't been through it's running in period yet.

2003 jdm sti spec-c with 70tkm car only has catback exhaust and will only be use on weekends and sometimes fun runs. Would it be better to run 5w40 or 10w40?
Philippines weathers avg 21-35c . Would motul 300v 15w50 competition be advisable for my use or just use redline?

Yep, you can use the Motul. 10w-40 should be fine for normall road use.

If you don't do trackdays Motul 300V 5W30 - Even subaru recommends it

If you do track days 300V competition 15W50 - works perfect in high engine temp

What do you want a recommendation for? Engine, Gearbox etc?

Thought about using Motul Gear 300 75W-90 for gearbox/front/centre diffs and Motul 90Pa for the rear diff. Does this sound ok or is there a better option?

Also please reccommend me an engine oil.

You could go for the Gulf Competition, Millers CFS or Redline. Top end ester oils, but a bit/lot cheaper.
