Hi

It needs an ATF fluid and the best options are the Red Line D4 or Fuchs ATF6000, although the others are fine as cheaper alternatives.

Thanks oilman, went with the Red Line ATF.

Can this be used for the clutch too?

Hi

Thanks for the order, very good choice.

It's not good for the clutch though, you need a brake fluid for that and the best fluids are the Castrol SRF, Motul RBF660 and Gulf RF1000. The Motul RBF600, Gulf RF800, Millers 300 Plus and Fuchs Pro Race are close to those, but don't have quite as high boiling points. The next step down (in performance terms), but still an upgrade over standard are the Gulf Racing 5.1, Motul DOT 5.1 and Castrol React Performance. Any of the other DOT4 fluids we have are fine to use as a standard choice.

Thanks once again. I note some are sold in 500ml and some 1ltr. Do you know how much I would need for the clutch on a 98 Impreza?

I don't have the capacity listed, but 500ml should do it.

Hi mr opie, due an oil change on my bugeye 2002 WRX with 137k on the clock, engine running spot on.

Had full subaru servicing, even had 140 and 150k stamped so done before schedule..

Now 5/40 fully syn or 10/40 semi..........not sure which to get with the miles done
Will be getting the genuine filter, only mods are K&N filter and exhaust,no mapping......so far. Too add, will be changed again come another 5k .........no track use, just a family chariot of work /school runs............daily run about in short.

Cheers ven

You need a 75w-90 for both gearboxes and diffs.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-...ion-fluid.aspx

If you want to go for the best, the Millers CRX 75w-90 NT, Gulf Competition, Motul Gear 300, Red Line 75w-90NS and Millers TRX are ideal for the gearbox. The Castrol Universal/Universal Plus, Motul Motylgear and Fuchs Gear Syn are all decent alternatives.

Cheers

Hi

I would stick with a 5w-40.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul Sport/300V, Red Line and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XF Longlife, Fuchs GT1 XTL/Supersyn, Gulf Formula G/ULE, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

Cheers

Hi oilman,

My 02 bugeye WRX has a synchro crunch going from 3rd to 4th so I'm tempted to try Redline Lightweight Shockproof. From what I've been reading, the box takes 3.5l.

Is it worth it/safe to use this oil in the rear diff as well. Gear and diff oils were last changed 20,000 miles/3 years ago.

The website states it's not available to buy online. Do you have any in stock?

Looking at changing the engine oil as well and probably going to go 5w40 fully synth. The car is standard and won't see any track use, is it worth going for an ester based oil?

Thanks.

Hi

Yes, it's ideal for the gearbox and diff.

We are out of stock at the moment, but it's due here later today or tomorrow.

Cheers

Hi

Replied to your pm, but didn't realise it was a DCCD box. Use this in that gearbox.

Hi

A 10w-50 is ideal for your car.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-659-10w-50.aspx

The Nanodrive CFS is, on paper, the best oil available, but the Pro S, Red Line and CFS are really good oils, so all are good choices for your car.

Cheers

Hi.

Any issue to mix Castrol Edge 10-60 with Fuchs Race Pro 10-50?

I will have an oil cooler full of the castrol at next oil change and my regular garage uses the Fuchs oil.

Thanks in advance.

Subaru impreza wrx 2 litre 2005.

Mods
Andy Forester Td05 20g with supporting injectors etc and sti top mounted intercooler.
Running 370bhp.
'Road use' as daily drive, 30 miles total per day, with two or three daily full throttle blasts. Occasional long journeys at 3k RPM.
120k miles on the clock.
Which gearbox oil please? As the gearbox is a little lumpy 2nd to 3rd and its obviously running close to (or over) the rated spec?

Can you change gearbox without back axle?

(Were changed a year or so ago but suspect cheapo transmissions fluids may have been used).

I would use this

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-899-motu...ter-based.aspx

Top stuff, always seems to work well in Subarus and isn't a silly price for a top quality oil.

Pretty sure you can do the gearbox oil without the rear diff.

Cheers

Yes, rear diff oil is completely separate, but is a pain to change as it needs to be injected.

I had this exact issue after the garage put millers gbox oil in my bug, syncro did not like it, castrol universal from opie sorted it instantly

Hi Oilman,

2004 wrx sti semi forged running 350bhp running 10w50 millers nanotech but been advised to run a 10w 40 as its only used at weekends and not on track,

noticed with 10w50 the tappets are slightly louder than my wrx with 10w40 would this help quite them down a bit if I was to run 10w40 fully in the sti?
if so is the millers cfs the better stuff to go for?

cheers :-)
