Just off course a bit here..I do have a friend...
He has got a golf with some stoopid engine in it,his nephew has been in loads of Fast car mags(leading to attempted theft of his cars @ times),together they've built this monster of a motor.
Golf running gear and an overbored, supercharged engine(I'll get more details),he not taken to telling porkies and I've seen him work,he says the only issue is that he has to keep welding the front back on as it vibrates itself to death,he's currently looking for a good mk3 shell as the engine has been tested and performs accordingly.
He related one episode to me,recing a Porsche reaching 170ish and....the rev limiter cut in and away went the Porsche he was gutted, but not half as gutted as the people he thrashes regularly who have spent thousands, and he is a very nice geezer not an arsehole with it...

I think someone talking to you like that deserves a few broken teeth, very disrespectful, why is it all about power.....like "my ***** bigger than yours"

It should be about appreciating the cars.....a group of lads I occaisonally hang around with are the same, its all about power, luckily mine is running the second best spec out of 5-6 cars, but it bores me to talk simply about power and 0-60 times.....or what their car is running, even though they've never had the gonads to put it on the rollers...

There are a few genuine people about who know what they're doing.
Thers'a youngish lad around here,Vauxhall trained who has a habit of putting large Vauxhall engines in Nova's,even converting to rwd.
My son knows him quite well,he's one of those types that love messing/experimenting and he certainly knows his stuff.
Fitting a Calibra turbo into my nephews tired vectra later this year.
It's not all about fitting loud exzorsts and stoopid lights=chav.com.

People just look at it here in France and take pics they don’t really know what it is
Scooby’s are very rare here and I have removed the badges only STI one's on it.

I was asked the other day where I got the rear spoiler from

Was at the Supermarket Yesterday and just parked up.

Bloke with his Missus stops & says to me, it must be awful your exhaust being broke. Are you going to get it fixed, bound to be illegal?

I said it's supposed to sound like that it's a Scoob.

Carry's on walking, says to his Missus, he probably can't afford to get it fixed, poor sod!!!!

They are great aren't they?

Exactly! Each car has both it's strengths and weaknesses, and you have to appreciate these when comparing power figures, and even then the only true test is to see what happens in real world conditions.

It was quite funny the other week, one kid was going on about his jdm classic running this and that, even though its his "predicted running figures ) I got down on mi knees to look underneath, - all power and no trousers.......no uprated drop links, no uprated roll bars, no ALK...etc...etc....now I realise and appreciate a scoob doesn't necessarily need all these for it to be a nice runner....but why throw money at pure power mods and do fvck all suspension and handling wise.

I just basically get fed up of straigh line power talk aswell, most of the new breed of hot hatches could quite easily keep with a scoob on a straight, but where the fvck are most of them when more "challenging" conditions exist?

I had some arsehole in a Astra VXR follow me over nr Ladybower in the Peak District the other month, the missus commented he was siitng on my bumper, I let him do this until I basically took his bait and got fed up, as we approached some corners on some nice roads, I just down changed and left him, as I waited for him to appear in the rear view, he nearly took out a lampost on the opposite side of the road I kid you not, such was the sh1teness of his handling, had me in stitches tbh, of course he caught up when I got stuck behind traffic as if he'd been with me all the time.

And why do Evo drivers think they are the dogs b0llocks when most modded scoobs will keep and give them more than a run for their money

Some - myself included, simply love the push of power and have no real interest in flying round corners. If i still had a Scoob, i'd have no issues running std chassis (maybe springs) and 400+ bhp

........i must actually be screwed in the head - i now drive a 134bhp Elise which i suppose ain't very fast at all in a straight line and is designed to be thrown round corners

Jimmy I know the feeling there's a blue Astra VXR that i see quite a lot and he is not happy unless he is in front of the car in front of him, until he came across me, It was peeing down and the single road turns into a dual carridgeway for about 100 yards what does VXR boy try and do? come from behind me into the inside lane, needless to say he didn't get past me but insisted on taking a close up of my rear bumper. I see him quite a lot and he gives me quite a nasty look, nevermind no love lost.

i'm happy with my 11.2 quarters @135 mph. why would you waste your time on these bellends. i tootle about in my scoob and never take the bait now as i have nothing to prove.

people just do not appeciate what they have. 300hp cars are very fast. there is not much on the road this side of supercar performance that is going to keep up with you. 400hp and you have to completely revise the way you drive. corners that you used to take at 60 or 70 you are now coming into at 100+ so you have to unlearn what you once knew about how fast a car can go. even more bhp and your car, while something really special, is not a daily driver anymore. they are just too fast. people slabber about having a very fast car but if they got into a really fast car they would $hite themselves, i know, i have been there. the temptation is too great on the road, quick blast now and again but why would you want wear your engine and waste petrol on some spidey wee juan kerr in a civic type r or corsa vxr or some other piece of dog poo that they "think" is fast. if you have invested a lot of money in your subaru just don't give them the pleasure. i drive like a granny in my subaru now, with the very occasional blip now and then. think about the stresses and strains you put on the engine when racing. is the wee spide gonna fork out for a new block, rods, pistons etc if something goes pop. it will just cost YOU money and they will laugh their ***** off as your car limps home. on the drag strip is a different matter though. just my 2p worth.

I think the so-called scalp of a Subaru or an Evo is big business for the new owners of a hot hatch, I really do.

Thats a really good post mate, and I agree with you, I must admit, I just get pissed off too much by other drivers baiting, when in essence, I should just think knackers to them!

nah mate my g/f is a speed freak. my car is just too fast for the road now so i bought a big black lexus ls400 to pootle about in. smooth as a baby's ar$e and i get better mpg than the scooby (believe it or not). get the odd blast now and again to curb the appetite but to be honest revved out in sixth is mega scary (180+). When i think of the money i have invested in my car i can't help thinking about having some mechanical sympathy for the car. nothing and i mean nothing short of a veyron or a koeniggsegg could keep up with the car. i don't say that to be big headed or anything i just know i have a very, very special car and why should i need to prove how fast it is to any other car on the road. as i said before drag racing and track work, that's another matter, flat out, full throttle shifts, launch control, anti-lag, the whole 9 yards and i love it. such a rush coming into stage then dumping an exedy clutch at 6000rpm. pulling gears like two men and a wee lad, the speed is scary.

enjoy your cars boys and just let the world go by. remember performance parts ain't cheap, and even if you can do the work yourself(which i can't), it is still going to be expensive if your engine let's go.

This probably isnt helped by every ebay and PH advert for an impreza being 300+bhp, regardless of model and independent of spec lol.

I was getting tyres fitted and the gresy little spanner monkey was telling me how his 'mates brothers sisters boyfriends brother etc etc' has a STI 555.....so called because they are 555bhp lol. I just agreed as its easier that way.......dont think he understood when I mentioned mone being a WRC edt......perhaps the lack of stickers and co-driver were the problem?

clio's, feista st don't even come into the equation of being faster than my scooby. i see only porsche 911, audi rs4 as a challenge. never had a clio cup 172 anywhere near me be it 60-100 or whatever they think. real world driving performance is what matters not figures.

I never said i didn't push it - but i only push well within my limits and certainly the cars limits. I suppose due to the ability of the car i would drive faster than many through the twisties, but no where near as fast as the car would allow - the real thrill came when i came out of a corner and planted the throttle
My Elise feels quick and rides the corners really flat but as i get near to the limit i always feel it's gonna understeer - unlike the Scoob suprisingly! I think i need the best of both worlds, which would be maybe the Elise R or even an Exige - all the go of the Scoob and still over 30 mpg

I agree bigsinky....i got my car back yesterday from getting a bigger turbo/injectors/remap etc etc and the difference is unreal, the car now goes like s**t off a shiney shovel and i am soo happy with the way the car is progressing, running around 360/350 now....sure i will want more power (soon lol) but i do appreciate that i now have a fast car and want it to last!!

Now im not a boring wise boy, but I was out driving around yesterday loving the new power and next thing a wee fella in a 90bhp TDI Golf (yes a diesel) comes up me a**e and keeps blipping and pulling out and back in and revving away and flashing for me to race him. Now i was gonna put the boot down and smoke him then i just thought: " i have just spent £2500 in the last few weeks making this thing go faster and getting it the way i want....why should i let a golf tdi rag me?"....so i just pootered on a 30mph lol

It take a fair bit of work to earn £2500 to spend on any car so that made me think!!

i ve never tried the top end on any of my scoobies, after a realised how in-affective the air scoop / vents are above 100mph, if you hold a subaru flat out for over a couple of minutes, effectively what you ve got, is a big microwave, cooking your engine from the pistons - outwards :-)

the subaru tends to flatter a lot of drivers doesn't it? as i said i drive like a granny in mine. i don't use a 1/10 of the potential in my car.

That is true, it takes less effort to drive one fast than it would a fwd but thats the beauty of it, my car will never do what its capapble of with me driving it I admit that, I think the best thing anyone could do is take a police pursuit type driving course like a few lads in the WYIOC have, learn a bit of aggressive handling and going into corners at 3 figure speeds but learning how to do it safely and responsibly, just how responsible taking a corner at over 100mph is though is anyones guess...

I just looked at his £500 rust bucket and laughed
I'd rather have a cossie than a subaru. Classic car nowadays, and no chav-look,
