When I first moved over here they didn't have a direct, no hassle, exchange for drivers licenses, thus we were allowed a one-shot deal to get a full license and this included a theory and driving test. The theory was easy, the practical, well, that I failed. The failure was due to slowing down traffic behind me when attempting to get onto a highway. The slight issue here is that there was traffic in the lane I wished to enter, and unless I exceeded the speed limit and overshot the lane ending designators, I would not be able to get in front of the stream of traffic, thus I decided to slow down a little and wait for a few cars to pass before getting on to the highway.
Obviously I'm meant to razz down the ramp and cut in front of others.
The examiner did comment that my use of the gearshift was excellent, I pointed out that it should be seeing as I had been driving since '92.
So, with that failure, I had to enter the graduated driving system, and had to take another theory and another driving test (G2 I think it was), and then I would need to take yet another theory/driving test to get my full G license, thankfully that wasn't needed as there was a restructure and the result was you could exchange your UK license for a full Ontario license, with only needing to take a theory test.
I've picked up a few bad habits whilst driving for many years, and it is quite possible I would not be able to pass the UK practical test, but I'm fairly confident I would pass, but would not want to be in a position where I had to take it, by this I mean I wouldn't mind having a go at it if the result would not impact my current license status.

I'd need a couple of lessons to be sure of a pass again today, although I've got no points/accidents in 30 years.
I have a bad habit of taking 'racing lines' whenever possible, which makes driving so much more enjoyable, hones concentration and skill. Plod would think I was pissed though
Richard.
PS Would like an Advanced Driving License, but I've been saying that for years Also, if you get stopped for some minor offence, the Police take a vey dim view, so I'm told. Would also like an HGV license, just as a challenge. But a helicopter would be more fun

About a year ago I took a further test for minibus at work, so I guess they passed me 'cos I was fairly competant. However, they tell you to drive ina very "odd" manner that takes some getting your head around..... such as screwing full lock on whilst at a standstill ! ! ! ( seems wrong to me !)
