ooh no Harj. Don't, for gods sake. Think of the residual prices. :0
[sarcasm]
Of course an unscrupulous dealer will reflect badly on the publics general opinion of a model of car.

Sickboy,
I don't think there is much point in discussing this if you aren't prepared to see anyone elses point of view. If I had a chip like that on my shoulder, I probably wouldn't get much joy from a dealer either. Yes my dealer will get paid from Subaru for replacing a part on a car which they sold me. The part was defective and would need replaced eventually. They could have said nothing and hope the car would go out of warranty before doing the work.(The car had 52k on the clock. One more service and I would have been paying). As you are implying that IM and the dealers are ganging up to avoid doing warranty work, why are you now flaming them for carrying out the warranty work they could have avoided? What would you like a dealer to do in the above circumstances?
You have listed you problems (well, the ones you have with your car) at the start of the thread, but not what you have done to have them rectified.
If you feel you need to contact Watchdog, then go ahead, it is a body set up to protect the public, so you are entirely withing your rights to do so. I would suggest that they will give an end of program announcement asking for other people with similar problems to call. They will look at the results and forget about it. I think that YOUR best course of action would be as follows. Details all the problems you have not had resolved to your dealer. Ask them to respond in writing. Find another dealer (ask for recommendation on the BBS.) Give them the same details, but not the response from the first dealer. Ask them to fix or respond in writing. Detail all outstanding problems to Subaru UK. Again, ask for response in writing. While they may drag their heels over Euro imports, they cannot put this in writing as you could immediately sue their asses. I would guess that the majority of your problems will have been fixed at this stage. If not, then contact Watchdog with all the letters. Do this on your own behalf. Do not attemp to start a bandwagon. Happy owners and dealers will start a bigger one. If you do this on your own you stand a good chance of getting a fair hearing from Watchdog and subsequently from Subaru. If you still have no result at the end of this, try trading standards. If you push hard enough you should be able to secure a full refund on the basis that the goods you where sold are not fit to do the job as they where intended.
Now, as they say on T.V
You are the weakest link - GOODBYE

As some may know, I took the unwanted sunroof Subaru issue to Watchdog ( i.e. yes you didn't order it, but that's what it's come with, that will be 850 pounds extra please or go to the back of the queue ) and found some others with the same problem from this BBS and spent the day filming for a program that was shown later that month.
Subaru UK / IM stuck to their guns and basically said to me TOUGH ****. Andy, the other guy involved, had slightly more success but was still left unsatisfied.
Net result for me I told Subaru where they could stick their car, suffered a loss of a days wages while filming, spent hours on the phone to the dealer trying to get my deposit back (they deducted a 25 admin charge). Got grief off the MD of the dealer for "going about this the wrong way" and him having to travel to meet the Sales Director of Subaru on a Saturday re. unwanted sunroof. They were well aware of my intention of taking it to Watchdog if a car without a sunroof could not be found or no charge would be made for the sunroof I didn't want.
I honestly think that that JD Power placing makes them more arrogant and less likely to listen.
But don't let my experience stop you if you fancy a go.

Fast Bloke,
(if you even have a Subaru). Read the thread, and you'll see I have no problems.
I just didn't want tw@ts with UK Scoobs and (no problems), to keep banging on about how they like the taste of IM's salty goodness.
This really is getting pointless, but as a troll post it's quite good (L IND)
PS Typos/typing accuracy really are no indication of intelligence either. (btw I bet you had to double check that you spelled intelligence correctly) Some people have other things to do.
Have to admit this has brightened my day up.
Why don't we go for a "Righteous UK" vs Euro/other Subaru split.
just a thought. And this has nothing to do with UK cars. Just those who think they are better/different to the alternatively sourced bretheren.
Jeez, now you've distracted me from the point of this topic.
Keep 'em coming.

PS FastBloke, you shouldn;t take the rise about spelling when you have got obvious problems yourself (or is it a typing issue). oh "p.s sickboy, sarcasam is said to be the lowest form of 'whit' (sic)", fair point but that's embarrasing isn't it?
Sarcasam (sic). Ho ho. Good effort.

If this had nothing to do with UK cars, why did you use the following as examples of problems:
*Dodgy clutches
*cracking brake discs
*Iffy DBM paint
*P1 upgrade brake problems
Surely these would be problems on all cars, UK or Euro.
By highlighting these issues, you should have known that some UK owners would have replied!
If it was an issue about how Euro import owners were treated, then maybe you should have stated that from the start, and ONLY had Euro owners reply to the thread!
Andy
PS - Sarcasm is NOT the lowest form of wit, surely slapstick is!! "Surely you can't be serious?", "I am serious and don't call me Sherley!"

Sherley,
custard pies or exploding dogturds (being a subset of slaptick!) are the lowest form of wit.
First things first, lunchtime drinking never helps in matters like this. ;-)
No, really I did originally want to hear from ANY Subaru impreza owner with a problem that they could not get resolved via dealer or IM. That probably rules out grey imports (no I'm not including P1's as grey- arf arf)
Unfortunatley, (as I hoped would not happen) the boring "I told you so's" (wrt Euro imports) couldn't resist clicking that submit button. So the whole aim of the topic has been diluted and it seems lost.

Cant really see there a case for Watchdog here.
Compare Subaru to other makes and I'm sure the others would make a more interesting programme.
2 1/2 years 12 cars 5 of them Impreza's (including an import). All the other cars have had faults. Ive had one broken brake bracket and some dodgy paint on a rear spoiler. Both sorted without fuss. Compared to other makes the Scooby is fantastic.
Now lets talk Audi or VW or Pug.

You've had no real problems with your car, therefore no need to contact dealer/IM?
Is that correct? If so not really what I'm after thanks- if you read the whole topic....
Have had several VW's BMW's etc. No problems with those. This is the Scoobynet BBS though.
I suppose an interesting programme isn't really what would be called a result.

I really hope you get what you're after.
A couple of points of BBS etiquette
1. do not start calling people tw@t
2. making inferrences of infeasible sexual activities
3. Calling others self righteous
4. Being Sarcastic to people
Much the same as pointing out peoples spelling mitakes which you seen to have taken umbrage at.
Sleep easy I know I will

Thanks for the advice Neil. Maybe when others take a leaf out of you're book I will. Sticks and stones. Probably a bit milder than what you'd see on BBC 2 after the watershed.
Poor flower.
As a point of order I wasn't the one who started spottings spelling mistakes. Read the topic properly old chap.

Don't want to join the slanging match....
Oh alright then, having moved to a Scoob from the ranks of Ford and Vauxhaul we realy do not realise the meaning of crap service and having to fight to get every last job done.
I do rank Skoda better than Subaru though, my wife has a Felecia and the dealers are first class. A rattle from an exhaust bracket resulted in the entire system being changed as the mechanic was not happy with welding it. Skoda just need to produce an Octavia 4X4 WRC replica with 300hp and we can both have one.

I think you are all being a bit harsh on Sickboy. He has genuine problems that he seems to have difficulty resolving and I must admit, this JDPower stuff seems a bit of a myth, coz in my time of Scooby ownership, I had loads of problems. However, at the same time, the joy of owning such a car always casts a shadow on the problems which pale into insignificance.
Important thing is to keep the thread on its tracks, anyone who has valid cause to reply should do so and not turn it into a slagging match.

Bloody hell - a thread like this and I am not present?
Cant have that so here I am
Think my scoobie is great, MY00 10,000 miles, DBM, and UK spec and as standard as they come. I have owned many cars and all have had little niggles and/or major problems.
The biggest problem I find with the Scoob is that its standard equipment is cr4p - why a bright switch and no warning of low washer water? why no handle on the door of the wagon? why a cr4p stereo? - cost cutting is my major gripe .. car is great

Guys , guys ,guys if we're honest the JD power rating is probably deserved if we are honest about most of the cars and dealers we've had before. I've had some terrible experiences with Rover and Fiat dealers that cost me thousands of pounds. My Subrau dealer has never vandalised the bodywork of my car( like my Fiat dealer did) and have never quoted me one price before doing work then added 20% afterward (cheers Rover dealer) .I have found my local Subaru dealer , Lavender Hill garage, great and my car has had just a couple of issues which were sorted out well but as with everything there are exceptions.
I did have some long running issues with my previous car a Legacy Turbo which was resolved after I documented what was wrong and how many times they had tried to fix it. They spent alot of timing explaining what they were doing so i fully understood the problems and whilst not delighted it took around a year to sort, they did sort it out.
If you have detailed all of the faults and the times the cars has been off the road/ awaiting parts etc and you have put your disattisfaction in writing to your dealer or IM without a satisfactory response then go talk to a solicitor or Watchdog and the motoring press.
I might be wrong but there seem to be relativey few people complaining about major issues with the quality of the cars or the dealer considering the number of people on the board. However if the few of you feel you have been let down strongly enough talk to Watchdog, its your money you've spent so you have every right to use all available means to get the service you deserve.

chaps,
thanks all for your input.
I think maybe I'll start a new topic another day....when everyone's calmed down a bit (actually everyone seems calm now
I love my car. However IM have alienated a lot of Euro owners (who are still customers of various dealers in the UK), and other UK buyers too. Ofen they seem arrogant (well Ed Swatman certainly does in his letters) and unsympathetic. Not what I have been lead to beleive by JD Power. A mate bought a TT from Germany. He's had no recriminations from Audi UK, just coughed up £900 for another 2 years warranty. IM won;t give Euro owners that option. Ho hum.
They've not quite ground me down to the point of selling the car. Yet.
