John Terry lost the plot about 18 months ago, he hasnt got a clue what hes doing. The boys mentality is I cant beat the player so I'll just chuck myself in the way and hope I connect with the ball.

The best players are playing in the Champions league. Agree? Therefore you don't really have to look much further than comparing the players from those teams. Yes those with talent and potential to be the best may well be outside that but until they are playing in it then you cant really consider them. I fail to see how you can disagree with that.
I'll give you the point about positions and agree to an extent but the fact is the main point of football is to score goals so those that create and score them will be the ones in the main under consideration to be regarded as the best.

I just imagine that somewhere there is some little known fella that plays like Pele every week and doesn't get the recognition because he doesn't play in europe, which is just a pity IMO.

I do agree that yes the best players all want to play in the champions league, I suppose if im honest I was making the original question too detailed.

FOOTBALLER
the people you have touched upon are incomparable. defenders can't be judged against attackers.
C.Ronaldo has been one of the best goalscorers this year.
i have watched quite a few games on the rip off channel this season and paul scholes has been pretty good.
Gerrard started slowly had a good middle and fell off toward the end.
Messi, Iniesta, Riquelme, have played well on and off.
You may think i'm mad but Gareth Barry has shown how good a player he is this seaon.
the best player in the world who knows? i'd like someone to tell me.
