Because lots of footy fans that say that go to the games. When you follow a club, it becomes like a living entity.
"We" comes about because you feel attached to that club - Christ knows you share enough emoition with the ups and downs of it.

No different with the National team. You kick every ball, slide in to every tackle and at the other end you either come out on top of the world or kicking the cat.

You must have noticed the effect it has. During a major championship where England are doing well (and I am sure this goes for Scotland). Everyone is your friend. People let you out of Junctions with a wave, strangers buy you pints down the pub. In short, the world becomes a happier place. And for 3 weeks once every two years or thereabouts, life is ****ing great.

When you talk about your Company, say, laying off 100 people - you say "My company has just laid off 100 people". It's not "your" company, its a company you work for. At the end of the day its a turn of phrase for aomething you have an attachment to.

No, but I am fanactical about F1, have been to a few grand prixs and never miss a race. I was truely devastated when Schumacher stepped down, love him or hate him. But whenever Ferrari won, I never said 'we won'. Maybe, my team, but never 'we'. It makes you sound like you had a part in the result and no matter how much you shout and cheer at the telly, **** all will happen! Trust me, I know from past experience. Remember 1996-1999? Took a long time for schuey to lift the title wth Ferrari.

Ahh - but it is a known fact that crowds can have a direct impact on results.

Its all to do with interaction though, football, cricket, tennis are all interactive sports... whereas sitting on ones fat **** watching ickle cars fly round a tarmac track is a spectator sport....

So karting isn't interacting?
Just because you have a kickabout about down the local park doesn't make you a world class player or part of the premiership.

I have also done a bit of formula ford, so atleast I can appreciated what racing round a 'wee' track feels like.

How many so called footy fans can claim to have competed at a professional level?

Not dissing the sport, I just don't get it.

OK, so we'll have to start the game with 10 men!
Eagles is alright, plus Welbeck could be our Walcott. In the squad but never used!!!!

The problem with the England 'team' is the same as the problem Real Madrid and Barcelona suffer. Too many players who think they have a divine right to wear the shirt, add that to a succession of managers who've had neither the bottle nor the imagination to drop the big names in favour of the best team for the job and you arrive at our current situation

Unfortunately Paul there's no such thing as a British/Irish football team, which makes O'Shea, Fletcher and Giggs just as foreign as Tevez or Ronaldo

id love to see a prem rule come in where its a requirement to field english players, but there is a problem. apart from say 30 players most are ****e who couldnt get near a starting line up of the top 4.
english squad players are over priced as it is, if a rule came in only the top teams could afford them(all be it the top players are in the top 4 already).
look at carrick and hargreaves price tags then look at rosicky, £8 mill for a proved international. dont get me wrong id love some english tallent in Arsenal but wenger would never pay 26mill(i think that was the price) for carrick.
plus top 4 english players wouldnt want to go to another club in top 4(if the club even agreed)
so unless something dramatically changes i think its staying this way.

whoever said in 20yrs english players will have "ski" in their name made me chuckle. how true

i only watch big matches and tend to follow players as apposed to a particular team, only ever been to one match and got chased by thugs from opposing team that wanted to kill us, i was a young lad and forest were doing very well (how times change) under mr clough, never felt like going back after that although it was an amazing feeling being part of the victory celebration when they won the european cup but for me this football fan thing is a bit like people who watch east enders or coronation st and think its real. kind of sad realy that somthing is missing in thier own life and they transpose themselves onto somthing else and use that as a way of escaping the tedium of thier own existance as apposed to going out and getting a life of thier own, they spend thier time and rather a lot of money supporting a load of overpaid premadonas most of whom have the iq of an 8yr old child. not quite sure what its all about realy!! flame suit on!!

Are you for real? You come into a football thread and sprout that ****?
Its called believing in something, feeling passionate about something. maybe this is missing in your life?
how is following football not having your own life? does this mean anybody who follows sport because they get involved don't have a life?
Ive followed Arsenal all my life, through thick and thin and loved every minute. You should have something to get involved in out of the normal boring working day. football brings banter, discussions with random people in pubs etc. it forms part of someones life.
just because you don't follow football passionately don't come on here calling people sad because "your not quite sure what its all about really!! "

sorry mate sure you mean well but your just chatting ****, IMO of course

i didnt say the people were sad, it's the situation that is sad! just listen to yourself! you and other fans (which is short for fanatic) get so wound up by a game and team loyalties the people you are supporting couldnt give a t@ss about you or your club,as long as they get paid ever increasingly rediculous amounts of money! and it would'nt be so bad if they actually did somthing constructive with it other than ponce around like national heros when all they are interested in is how pretty they look and whos got the best car and bigest house! and the poor fanatics that follow them are ripped off more and more to fund this rediculous circus! that my poor dissilusiond friend is SAD!!!

i dont understand how you can say something like this without having experianced being a loyal fan.
Its true some players dont care about the club but they dont stay for long.
players are dedicated to a club, thats why they give up **** loads to have to train eat properly etc. i dont agree with players wages but i dont pay them in full so i dont care.
i spend money to watch football because of the way it makes me feel. you have every emotion going during a game and thats better than any afternoons walk in the park.

if i go to a match with the misses im looking at £150 with tickets travel etc. i get to as many as i can afford.
if you go out for a meal and some disco dancing your looking at same price.

what do you do with your time then to come on here and judge what we do. bet you havent sweated blood and tears for something you believe in so much(not including family)
