Good work, she should be as tight as a nun after you finish putting that lot on.

Rocker cover oil seal

Not unusual to find them perished on the offside because of the heat from the manifold collector and up-pipe

It's not the easiest job, but they can be replaced with the engine in situ

Thanks Tim, that makes sense. I assume I'm going to have to remove a load of ancillaries to get it?

not too bad, leads, air filter/maf, intercooler pipe (if fmic)

if you undo engine mount and jack that side up it gives better access and less oil mess

lovely weather, shame i just spent three hours stripping, cleaning and putting the rocker cover back only for it to pi$$ oil everywhere when I started the car. Really annoying because it was probably only a drip leak originally.

I hate gaskets.

Wow, i'm really enjoying this thread mate, keep us all posted

I got a '97 WRX wagon recently and after taking her for a quick (70mile) thrash on this new loop i found today (EVERYTHING in it, including mountains!! ) i am thinking when i get time/money i would like to carry out some suspension work so this is dead interesting to me... especially as you are sourcing 2nd hand bits which REALLY appeals to me haha!

Hard luck RE last couple of posts- all going so well too, aint it just the way, pal

lookin forward to next installment, keep it locked!

Cheers Ash, budget mods are the way forward...its too easy to chuck a wad of cash at a car and get someone else to do all the work

Thank you.

Remove the lights, remove bulb and rubber grommet, pop off glass catches and now the scary bit. Stick the whole headlamp in the oven and keep checking it until the sealant is loose enough to separate the glass. Separate the units and remove the silver plastic section that sits on the reflector. Rub it down, clean it and spray it black. Re-assemble in reverse order.

just take your time and it's fairly straight forward. I've not tested them yet, but logically it shouldn't because the actual reflector is behind the black part so it's just trim really...

Just used a half used can of matt black spray actually As long as you have keyed the plastic you shouldn't have an issue.

An inspiration to wagon owners Totally agree on what you say about budget mods being the best, shame i dont have much time to do these mods and my old gal looking abit knackered at the moment.

Have alot planned for mine over the summer and the company giving me a week off in May is going to be helpfull, must stop reading these threads and the Wagon thread on NASIOC !!

Now if only i had a few ŁK spare to buy one of the 2.5 Cosworth long engines i have been offered for a good price
