So to reflect, the advice to be given is:

Get the other suspect to do it first.
If it's negative from the registered suspect, then If you don't want to know, don't do it.
But if he is willing to do it, be ready to hand-over cash and take on a lot of rersponsibility and forget about how he feels about missing out on the first months of the childs life.

The starting point for all of this is getting the current partner's DNA compared with the child's. If it is a match, then game set and, er, match.

If not, then it depends on your friend unless it becomes a court order, say, if the current partner leaves the child's mother then the CSA will want their pound [stone?!] of flesh from the natural father.

One should have no problem with paternity test. Only the cowards and criminals will shy away from it. If an accident with a nightstand has brought this upon, then as well, mistake of not using any contraception should be faced, full stop. Think about the child, it's not his/her fault. Ok,one was only after some good time with a woman, but surely, one can't be as callous as to deny one's own flesh and blood, come on!

Scoobywon't, your mate shouldn't leg it to Canada IMO. It will be pretty cowardly and selfish IMO, if he did so. Tell him to face up to it like a man , and take on whatever comes with it, if he turns out to be the child's father.

A friend of mine was in a similar situation. And i tell you - paternity tests are a whole BIG can of worms - and unless you (or your mate) are willing to see this through to the end - then I'd stay WELL away!
In short: tell the registered father to do it - if its negative then providing it was just your "mate" in the frame and no others - then I'd say thats a clear case.
If your mate takes the test and is proven to be the father, there is nothing in this world that can stop the X, going to the CSA and your mate being liable to pay, whether he wants to be in the childs life or not! Thats it, plain and simple - and thats exactly where my friend is!
Also, its one thing to "suspect" that your bringing up a child that isn't yours - but rest assured, knowing is a whole new ball game and it really changes things.
If your mate is OK with all of that - then yes, go for it but also bear in mind that these "home kits" are quite pricey and how can you REALLy be sure your getting the REAL result? Wasn't there a case a little while back about some internet DNA thing whereby, no test was actually tested - the "company" used to take the cash and send whichever answer they felt like - how bad would THAT be!
DNA tests should be done by a doctor, ot else should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Wow! That sounds scary. Up to the last time I spoke to him about this subject, he'd made his mind up that the child could not be his, and the after looing at a pregnancy planner, the actual birth date revealed that the conception date was 2 weeks after he last slept with the mother. The last date was the one given by the mother, which was later than what my friend thought.

From what I believe, they were using the pill. It didn't fail for a year or so. :suspicious:

Can they actually force my friend to prove that the child is or isn't his?
