RAF abused in the street
Would you like me to bring them to your house for you to interview them?? maybe ascertain the level of abuse they have suffered
We have to take the abuse, as if we live in a civilized society that doesn't allow for vigilante justice to prevail, and if we were to retaliate we would be castigated for infringing on someones human rights.

As if all members of the armed services are all lily white. Spare me the guff.
Why don't you tell the likes of Baha Mousa's family about human rights. Getting away with torture and murder by colluding in a cover up. Don't get me started.
No, what I want is actual fact, not bull. As far as I was aware there had only been one incident of abuse in Peterborough, according to the armed services.

Where were the human rights for the army Cpls Dave Howes and Derek Wood, dragged from a car after they accidentally drove into the path of an IRA funeral? tortured and kicked to death whilst their colleagues had to watch from the helicopter over head unable to stop it.
War isn't a tiddley wink contest and both sides are murderous b*stards (as this is usually helpful when trying to kill the opposition).
Human rights in a war are a luxury, however human rights in everyday life are what separates us from the beasts.
It appears you have, so why don't you craic on??

I heartily concur, how can you justify the war crimes of kicking and torturing 2 members of the armed forces for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. However if we were to take this argument to it's conclusion then you could argue that if Baha Mousa's wasn't in the hotel that night he wouldn't have got a kicking which led to his death. Patently this is a rather poor argument. However you start off trying to claim the moral high ground when quite clearly you have missed out a whole raft of human rights infringements to suit you own personal agenda.
Perhaps the armed forces shouldn't have infringed on the human rights of Norman Kembers abductors and left dear Norman to endure a rather close shave. After all they were only expressing their human right of protest.
As you appear to be unable to engage in a reasoned debate, apart from quoting sensationalist press, I pray that you never need to rely on the armed forces to get you out of the sh*t, and before you spout off how you never will, I suggest that you consider the amount of work that is currently going on the in North Sea now that the sleeping military giant of Russia has decided that it is time to flex it's muscles.
Finally, your posts are clearly cheap sound bites to justify a rather poor use of english.

Which I haven't done.
You excuse your own murderous behaviour and then expect civility from others.
Tying up civilians in custody and then beating them slowly to death over days while they lay in their waste - Lifting an elderly man by his eye sockets while he screams and then videotaping it all so you and your friends can ********** over it later does not distinguish you from 'beasts'.
I think it is typical. A spineless government preoccupied with multiculturalism and taxes have led to behavior like this. Im disappointed. But unfortunately not surprised. In the States apparently servicemen are encouraged and proud to wear their uniforms off duty. And Australia, well, i think back to when those immigrants took command of (was it?) a freighter ship in their waters and threatened to starve themselves unless they were granted asylum. The PM not only said NO but threatened to blow the pungent overrun thing up unless it was removed post haste. F'em
Odd how you seem to have such knowledge of the masturbatory rituals of the armed forces and I believe you would be a brave man to suggest such a thing in person. (not too me i couldn't give two hoots what you think, though I do sleep the sleep of the righteous man after a good days work)
Can i ask a question? were you equally as vocal in your support of human rights, when Saddam's brothers were killing Kurds by the bus load, and I do hope that you don't holiday in Turkey, Morroco, etc. Would seem terribly hypocrytical
FatherPierre you right i should keep my own house in order, thanks for pointing it out

Clueless fool.
Rob - you know the score with people like this, and those that will shout abuse in the streets. They know we're too self-controlled to give them the kicking they frankly deserve, if they actually thought we would conduct ourselves in such a way - they'd be too scared to make so much as a wimper.

The masturbation coment beggars belief BTW.
as far as i am concerned it was a great honour for myself to bear arms for my country. war isn't like what you see in the films were its glamourised its barbaric ,vicious and violent ,upclose and personnel.i know from experience.10yrs service ,medical discharge due to injury whilst in afganistan.so gsm1 dont sit slagging soldiers off because you haven't the bottle to bear arms for this country
i have recently had 2 of my close friends killed in helmand provence afganistan ..i believe we should honour their lives. soldiers obey orders we dont make policy thats for the likes of gorden brown and his collegues we just abide by there decisions.
ask yourself could you do what is expected of a soldier in combat ? not many can so why not show some respect for the armed forces.

Well said my friend.
I wonder if he even thought about the actual practicality of lifting someone using their eye sockets.. You'd never get your fingers in deep enough.. even if you did, you'd have to have arms like bulldozers to lift a grown man like it.
Of course, it sounds good plastered across the Socialist Worker and all the other utterly toss publications these deluded, naive, off-with-the-fairies, idiots like to read.

I'll probably be shot down for this bit, but I'm not particularly a massive fan of war, or sometimes the politics that go with it, but I'm sure I'm not alone there. That said, I take my hat off to anyone who goes into the forces, knowing what will be expected of them, knowing they may full well be called upon to go out and risk their life for their country.
It's a career I wouldn't want to do myself in honesty and probably couldn't, but I have the upmost respect for those who do. I think it is a disgrace those in the armed forces have to put up with this kind of abuse, as I feel about many others in other careers who come up against the same problems. Something seriously needs to be done with anyone out there abusing our forces, whether they be students, foreigners or chavs.

Why are the military types on here so defensive? I don't understand. Why resort to, at best, dubious infractions?
I think the anger from GSM is from the sheer ignorance and bigoted generalisations on this thread. I for one am not happy at all at the frankly racist postings about Muslims, now an everyday occurrence on SN, despite the supposed enforcing of the T's & C's.
Why demand facts Prasius, when you have yourself made assumptions as to the source of the abuse? You have not even personal experience to call upon in this matter.
Before any of the Infractors get going (because I have dared to criticise those who are above criticism) I will say, as I have done before, that I have had family proudly serve in the British Army, I buy and wear my Poppy with pride every year, both my Brothers wore their ATC uniforms proudly through the streets, from home to camp and so on.
In fact they received hardly any abuse when in uniform, certainly a lot less then when in civvies. Perhaps because then they were just 'Pakis'?
The fact of the matter is that abusing people in uniform, or any position of authority, is OK in society these days and has been for a long time, sadly. Even more fun when the perception is that they cannot do anything about it.
Why this action is only attributable to Muslims though is beyond me, 99% of whom have a very healthy respect for the law.
From my own personal experience, I have lived and grown up on the same street as two army camps. Myself and my family have been abused, on occasion, by squaddies and their families, outside our own home. The squaddies were all banned from the local pubs (even the army pubs!) for fighting and on one occasion, rioted and smashed up all of the local shops. This was in the days long before shutters were widely used to protect shop fronts.
Now, I am not using these events to tarnish all army or service folk, far from it. But if you feel you deserve respect and not to be mistreated/maligned, then I suggest to treat people in the way you expect to be treated as a good start, this thread as a good example.
All the best.
Asif
PS Petem, you do well to maintain your position of Most Consistent Poster of Utter Drivel on SN - head and shoulders above the rest mate!

Good post Asif (not meant to be patronising)
I am not sure it is 'dubious' as to why this person was banned when comments about army folk masturbating over images of a person being strung up are mentioned.
Also, all military tarred with the same brush, if this was about muslims or a certian section/commiunity and some said they all are terrorists/suicide bombers ther would be uproar, generalisation is never a good thing.
However, i would have preferred to let him/her state their case rather than be banned as i think it is better to discuss.

Besides which the generlisation that goes on here with those sections of the community is much, much worse than anything the military guys have to put up with.
