A500

Add on Floppy drive

512k ram.

then the 20mb hard drive (wahay)

cart loads of demo,s & games,

sold the lot.

then a few years ago bought an A500 & an A1200 disks etc.

sold the A500 and loads of discs

kept the 1200 & some discs,

think that was a mistake i preferred the A500

mind you i seem to recall they had there own RROD with the cips becoming unseated from there sockets, it was the red flashing FDD light if i recall.

mind you you could whip the cover and shielding off and push them back into place

who could forget some of the cracking crews

Bamiga sector one

Red sector
SCA (i think that was also virus at the time)

this may bring back a few memories

I had the Amiga 500 with 512 upgrade had tons of games and PD demos like budbrain,Viz,bedroom olympics final fight , also mortal kombat 2 also not forgetting the ultimate game monkey island 2 with like 12 disks

I also tried writing a game in Amos pro but it was damn hard

Duelux paint also rocked

Those were the days

Now I have the Amiga emulator on my PSP it even has the hand with the disk on when you turn it on

Vic20 did tapes and carts. So did the Speccy (as well as micro drive) C64 did tapes, and floppies if you bought the prohibitively expensive 51/4 drive (which you had to when Alter Ego came out), Amstrad CPC464 had tapes , Amstrad 664 & 6128 had floppies

Don't just remember it - I still have mine ! A piece of history sitting in the my old wardrobe back where I grew up. And it still works ! Suck on that reliability Microsoft ! The day you make a product that doesn't freeze will be the day you start making freezers (still love the 360 though - think of it as a 400 BHP modified wrx running on standard internals - its going to go pop at some point, but ahhh the acceleration!)

Ok so we had the Atari ST and the Atari STE (and the Mega equivalents)

So what is the difference between all these amiga variants

In chronological order, then.

First off was the A1000 - 256KB RAM, came, base unit and Keyboard/mouse and an optional monitor.

the A500 came out in 86 ( i think, i bought one in 87) and was aimed at the home market, it had 512KB of RAM and a TV modulcator so you could plug it into your telly.

The A2000 came out around the same time and was an update to the A1000 but with 512KB and Zorro (expansion slots)

the A1500 was UK only Amiga with 2 floppy drives instead of one on the A2000 but no HDD

The A500+ was an updated A500 with 1MB ram and a revised chipset/

The A600 was essentially a redesign of the A500+

The A3000 was a update to the A2000 with 2MB RAM anbd a faster processor

The A1200 had a new graphics chip (AGA) and a faster processor

the A4000 was a similar update of the A3000 - I.e. the new processor (infact you had a choice of processors) and the AGA GFX chip.

So, I have WinUAE 1.4.6, and found a whd version of Exile, question is, how the hell do I use/configure this? I've downloaded WHDLoad_usr but again, no idea how to configure it.

Any helpful info on how to get Exile running would be appreciated.

CPC 464 had an add on diskdrive

funny enough, if you look at the PSU for an Xbox 360, it bears an uncanny resemblance to the CPC FDD

I had a 1mb upgraded A500.

Fave games were Beach Head, Rocketball (like the film Rollerball), Race Car Construction kit (you built tracks to race on) and obviously Supercars series and Speedball series

Stunt car or whatever it was called was also very good IIRC

I've still got my Amiga A500 in the loft, although it's got an intermitent fault I had it fixed once, I wonder if i can get it fixed again?

It had a massive 6mb RAM and a 100mb hard drive, all on the left hand side expansion port! Also had 2 or 3 external disk drives all daisy-chained together!

I must have 500+ games for that thing All still in boxes in the loft.

Also got an Amiga CD32 That never really kicked off though did it Only got a couple of games for it.

I can't believe the amount of hours of my life I spent playing that thing, pretty impressive really that it lasted as long as it did with the amount of use it got and hours and hours it was constantly switched on for.....take note Mr Gates with your XBox360

I remember when my friend and I got our Amiga's together and bought the "link-cable"

I remember playing Stunt car racer and Armageddon (sp?) with the computers linked and playing against each other!

That was a good game.
Didn't Lemmings originate on the Amiga?
