Well I popped in to see mum earlier. She is having a nightmare of a time with another lady in the room with her, keeps waking her up, mixing peoples belongings up etc. She has been sedated once or twice for her own safety (the woman not mum lol)

I have taken her cigarette inhaler thing in to try and get her to use tha, rather than giving the nurses a hard time.

Spoke to a nurse who said she should be allowed home very soon, maybe even as soon as tomorrow.

We now hae a makeshift hospital room in the lounge, with everything else stuffed out of the way. Credit to MediQuip and everyone dealing with all this stuff.

No word on the treatments yet, mum a little confused about what's happening, so I'm hoping to see the doctors tomorrow to clarify.

It's great that they are sorting stuff for her to come home. Folks are all to quick to criticise the NHS yet they were fantastic to Kevin and are amazing with my Sis in Law.

She has RT at 4pm today at St Thomas's then back to Lewisham for the night.
While the nurses are happy that she can come home soon, there are still a number of specialists to sign off on this too, so with only Friday left to see all the doctors etc, time is short. It's possible, and I hope she can come home tomorrow, but trying not t get her hopes up.

I got to see her for about 5 mins last night due to my sister and her brood deciding not to leave. So I got to take mum back to the ward and wish her goodnight. While enduring 45 mins of me me me conversation, and embarrassing shrieks and screams from my sister directed at her badly behaved kids, showing off in the cafe.

Home is all read for her now. Laid laminate flooring in the hallway to help her zimmer glide better, and made some other little changes too.

As for the chair that's her pimptastic lowrider chair with optional hydraulics lol, one button and it throws her out of the seat lol.

Had considered that but that would mean not seeing mum. She has told everyone she is mums carer which now means they were concerned she could not care for her with new born baby and toddler.

Back to her old self again now.
Spent 10 mins explaining that because mum and her sisters had breast cancer, she now qualifies for breast removal and a boob job as a precautionary measure.

Kids were showing off, so she was shouting at them while telling me amazing stories of how car accidents were not her fault, and her screech laughter.
I messages her earlier about what time she was visiting so we could stagger the visits. I got there when she said she would be leaving. But they decided to stay an extra hour, which left me 5 mins.

Funniest part was her criticising other visitors to the ward for going in a larger number than the preferred 2 to a bed...... While she visited with her boyfriend and FOUR kids... 2 of which were crying, as babies do.

 

Sorry, ben a hectic few days. I think we're going to be alright. Surgeon said she'd got it all, and taken a reasonable margin. She tested negative for haceptin, so its tamoxifen for the forseeable future.

The last scan picked up a possible issue with her ovaries, so they're going to take them out next year just to be safe. There's also, potentially, a problem with her liver that they want to check out, but at this point in time they've told us the chemo / radio is precautionary and they're not using it to treat cancer.

Looks like we've been relatively lucky if that makes sense?

 

yes it does mate better news than most my mums chest has started playing up tonight might not be the cancer but she thinks it is christies tommoz for a scan

Glad it sounds like the actions have been effective and all the precautionary stuff is being done also. Nice to know they do the job properly.

Hope the other stuff on the scans are nothing too serious and can be taken care of as non intrusively as possible.

Keep those spirits up if you can, sounds like you are all doing a fantastic job there.

Sorry to hear that Nick, always a worry when an ailment pops up isn't it better safe than sorry though. Hope the scan goes well.

I finally gave into the temptation today. After speaking to the doctor about struggling to cope over recent weeks he offered a very low dose antidepressant. Which I have reluctantly given a go, along with some other bits of help soon to follow.
Just wanna be on my A game while mum needs me, and until I get on my feet I'm useless to her.
Done some reading on the drug and the dose and all seems pretty ok. So worth a go. Been signed off for a little while to just to get my head together.

 

See what you mean Snazy. I would still be tempted to run away and take Mum with me!

Well I am going to try and get to the hospital today, unfortunately due to all the kids, my sister can't make it.
Mum asking for a few bits so I will run them down there.

She could have come home yesterday but her RT was out of sync with the social workers availability, so the assessment was rescheduled til 11 Monday.... However I have just checked and she has RT again at 10.20 on Monday, so will be at St Tom's til the afternoon again.
Got to let SS know about this asap and see if we can reschedule for the afternoon. Hope so.

And then once that is done, she still has more RT after that, so will have to see how we go about getting patient transport for that.

Off to the shops to get her some bits now and maybe a cheeky burger for lunch ( for mum, not me)

Today is the day. Got to phone social services in a minute and see if they can reschedule the planned 11am meeting for early this afternoon.
Mum has RT treatment this morning, then back to Lewisham hospital where hopefully social services can see her, make the necessary arrangements and finally discharge her.
Fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, my sister is having difficulty understanding that after a week of RT on her brain, mum is going to be a little bit tired, so my sisters plan of her, her boyfriend, and their 4 kids coming over for Xmas dinner is a bit of a strain on mum. Pop in, pull a cracker, eat some dinner, **** off...... That would be fine.
But it will be 2 babies under 1 year crying, 2 kids in their teens showing off and fighting, and their mother screeching at the top of her voice just telling a story, let alone when it comes to telling the kids off.

So off to call social services now, try and arrange the meeting, sort physio out for myself, as my neck is killing me from sleeping badly, then hopefully get to the hospital later to meet with social services and get mum home.......

 

Is your sister going to be making the Christmas dinner. I sincerely hope she isn't expecting your Mum to do it. Sorry Snazy, she does seem a very selfish person.

Yeah my sister is threatening, I mean offering to cook the dinner. I'm sure I will be doing the tidying up.

Things not gone well today, she is still not back from RT yet, so wont be coming home today I would not think. And with the weather expected and timing of her treatment of tomorrow I would think she will be in tomorrow night too.


Mixture of news there Nick. Glad to hear it's shrunk again. The spread pattern is never a certainty, so I'm sure the further treatment is precaution, which is a good thing too really, I think.

Hope the RT is not too hard on her though. Trying to get thru to my sister the effects it has is impossible right now.

Well I am pleased to say I finally managed to get the meeting scheduled and we did it. All the plans are in place for a carer to come in twice a day to see how things are going, help wash and help with other bits that are needed.
Just got to work something out with the dogs now.

They were keen to impress that there will be no charge for any of this. So that's carer from social services, nurse from St Christophers, equipment from the NHS and Mediquip. Sorted!

Not home yet, but hopefully that should be tomorrow as she has RT late this afternoon.

 

Fingers crossed for tomorrow, then. Will be great to have Mum home for Christmas.

Thanks for that. Not sure how it's gonna all work out yet. She didn't get back to the hospital til gone 10 last night after her treatment, not quite sure why so late, as her appointment was 3.20.
She has already text this morning to say her treatment is running late today too. So we shall have to see.

Today is the last day of scheduled treatment for now, so worst case scenario, she has all day tomorrow to be discharged.

She has not seen this thread no, and is unlikely to either. However she knows my opinions of my sister, as does my sister. I don't just sneek off and say stuff behind her back, I say it to her too.

Would be nice to have her home for Xmas for sure, just got to get my sister to understand that she needs to take it easy for now.

 

I hope she gets back home Snazy. It will make her so much happier for her Christmas.

To be able to have a *** whenever she wants
Oh and eating a good meal.

Xmas would be a bonus to her right now. Knowing mum she will feel guilty as hell for not being able to get cards and presents for the kids etc.

Oopps, forgot to add. My Sis in Law is responding well to her treatment. They put her on a "Trial" with some new drugs. At first she was ill and they had to take her off it. They said the drugs were making her heart race. Anyway, they reduced the dose and after 6 weeks, which was last week, she had her scan. The tumours have reduced, so she is **** a hoop.
Not sure how long she has to stay on it, but my brother and her and on a high at the mo'
