Mum just dropped a bombshell "found a lump"

Maybe half the problem was/is you are too giving and caring that you end up doing everything because of that, and wrongly she takes advantage of it and leaves you to deal with it all. She bows out as she knows you won't. Please don't take that the wrong way.
Now, through no fault of your own, she will have to step up. I know the staff at the hospital will look after your Mam, but this may be the push your sister needs to make her play a part, if for nothing other than support and love.
I hope her operation goes well, and I really hope your sister eventually comes through.

Quick update on our situation..
Wife had lumpectomy two weeks ago tomorrow. They managed to avoid a mastectomy. They also removed the lymph gland; although all the scans were clear the surgeon was concerned..
She's healed quite well but is still in quite a bit of pain from the gland incision. Test back last week confirmed grade 2- the gland was affected too.
We have a CT scan this afternoon, then oncologist next Monday. They've said six months chemo will sort it, and then a bit of radio, but are already talking about preventing further probs, once its gone, with herceptin. I feel this is positive.
She's real worried as it was in the gland as well, but it is in close proximity to maybe not too much of a surprise.
I'll update again when we know more...

Nice one Simon, thats great news, you must all be over the moon.
Hope the follow up treatment does the trick.
Update on my mum.... they postponed the op until this week, which is great as im back in the UK. She is being admitted on Sunday, to prep her for the operation on Monday, so im about for the whole thing.
Fingers crossed all will go well. She has been advised its approx 5 hours under to get the whole thing done. Fingers crossed her breathing is ok. She has been classed borderline acceptable given her COPD.

CT scan was a touch unpleasant as they had to inject dye (she's not real good with needles) but was over pretty quickly.
In and out in under 30 minutes.

Well that's one funeral down, and now just a serious operation left. Mum is scheduled to go in for pre op admission on Sunday, surgery set for Monday.
Just got back from Johns funeral, so this is quite a testing week to say the least.
Will update post surgery.
RRH, glad that's out of the way, hope everything goes right from here on in.

I know how you must have felt at the funeral Snazy, always upsetting especially with a close friend.
I thought you said you were going on holiday while your Mum was in hospital, or it that when she comes home again?
Hope all goes well anyway and with the least of worries for you as well.

Firstly, Snazy and RRH my thoughts are with you and your families at this time and I really do hope things work out well.
A little update from me too. I'm not going to go on too much but just thought I'd let it out a little. Mam has had a few problems of late with pain, particularly in her shoulder. Long stroy short, she was sent for a bone scan and unfortunately it has showed something. The consultant doesn't know what so she has to go for an MRI. She is panicking about that as well as obviously being upset something has shown up.
I'm just gutted for her. I so hoped it would be fine so she could just have some time not worrying. All I want for her is for her to be ok and have some happy time.
Sorry for getting all depressing.

Was a very different year for us out there this time. Still spent way too much on cars, with a 7 seater 320bhp Chevy Tahoe, and missu decided on a lovely 2010 white Mustang Convertible (305bhp)
Only went to one park for one day, and did some other things for once. Great time, and rebooked already for next year. 3 weeks this time..
Just got the time for mum going in tomorrow, 3pm she needs to be there for. Then they have a day or so to get her ready for surgery, no smoking etc. Give her breathing a better chance.
Its apparently a 5 hour procedure, not sure what time they are starting it on Monday, but I will be there before she goes under.
She seems to think she will be out of hospital by Wednesday, but I cant see that happening somehow.

Well almost two and a half years after I first posted, mum finally goes under the knife tomorrow afternoon. Can only wonder what difference it would have made if she agreed to this all that time ago... But you can't change the past, or live with regret, so heres to hoping whatever the outcome, it's worthwhile.
She admitted for the first time tonight that she is actually glad to be having the op as the pain and discomfort was getting too much. And also agreed that the doctors were right ages ago, and were not trying to scare her with the stories if pain and discomfort.
Silly thing lol.
Safe op mum, be thinking and worrying about you.

Not to hijack the thread, but a little update from me.
Mam goes for her MRI in the morning. Was told it could be a 6 week wait, but apparently there was a cancellation so has been slotted in sooner. This is a good thing for her I think as at least it's not as long to worry about it.
I have my fingers crossed it doesn't turn out to be something bad again, and I just want to say 'out here' how much I love her and how proud I am of her going through all of this and still being the best person I know, being a rock to me.
I am going with her as she is scared, and I just wouldn't dream of not being there for her. Love to my Mam. xxx
Sorry Snazy for taking over a bit, but I'm not one for starting my own threads and I think all of this ties in together it's bes keeping it that way. (feel free to tell me to bugger off your thread though )

Thoughts to all concerned as I went through all of this with my Mum. Unfortunately she was diagnosed too late when one day she couldn't physically move. Scans showed cancer was through most of her body and she was only in her 40's. I was only 19 at the time of her passing.
I know what you are all going through so hope that any ops and treatments work for the long run. All the best and stay strong for them. A smile goes a long way

Got my fingers crossed for your mummy too. Glad she got an appointment so soon, hope it's nothing too serious, and whatever it is, that it can be dealt with as easily and painlessly as possible.

Apparently a long procedure, but outcome will depend on where they decide to take the replacement tissue from.
Sort to hear about your situation mate, can't have been easy for you. I hate cancer, I really do!

Right, just got back from the hospital. Operation seems to have gone ok, although the surgeon seems to have changed the plan a little, and left a fair bit of bad tissue there, favouring removing the lump instead, which was not the plan. Lump and tissue were meant to come off, but im sure there is a reason for this.
After she came out of recovery it was noticed that her drain was flowing rather fast, and 400ml later they decided there was an issue with it, and a bit of a bleed going on inside. They decided to take her back to recovery, possibly to prep her for theatre again, but at the last minute decided to leave her on the ward, and up the obs.
Blood loss was constant, so a pressure dressing has been applied to slow it. BP dropped to just over 100, but has stablised now. Plan is to keep her under obs over night (every 15mins) then decide if she goes back to theatre in the morning. Consultant has made himself available overnight incase anything should happen.
She is dosed up on morphine right now, hungry as hell, dry mouthed and on NBM lol. Poor thing. As she kept dropping off and the team needed nothing more from me I called it a night.
Now my next job is to convince my sister that its not fair on mum to have loads of visitors (i.e the kids and her other half) and NOT to bring the baby to the hospital. Even the nurses said its allowed but a bad idea.
dinner and sleep for me now.

Sorry to hear of the complications, but it does sound like she is being well looked after. Can only hope she either improves or the get her back in to do what they have to do, I'm sure they will take good care of her from the sounds of it.
As for your sister, you are just going to have to be straight and firm with her. Get her to put herself in your Mam's shoes, would she really feel up to having kids about at a time like this? She really does need to put your Mam first right now.
