my car has a noise reading of 89dB at 4000rpm, with nearly 380bhp. You dont need loud exhausts to make a powerful car.

My Ninja was too noisey at times - some exhausts i've heard on Scoobs are just way too noisey. I get the impression that "some" Scoob owners fit certain exhausts simply because the are ear bleeders. My exhaust was fitted to release some non too offensive burble - but i think my neighbours may feel different

The noisiest things I ever hear on the roads are 16 year olds on titchy 49cc mopeds and the like. That and trucks and buses. I've never heard of the filth targetting the millions of those.

If the car passes an mot with the exhaust in place, the plod wouldn't have a leg to stand on in court. If they are serious, then a db level needs to be set at the mot station, not mr plod's 'opinion'!

The company I work for regularly engage in very detailed noise measurement of our products. We cannot sell products that do not conform to the standard. There is a highly specific test regime laid down as to the environment where the test is carried out, nearby materials, the number of microphones used, the distances and angles of said mics etc etc.
And guages or equipment would have to be fully calibrated and regular guage R&R's be carried out to check they remain in line with expectations.

And thats only for outdoor power tools !

I'd have thought that the Department of Transport or some such other body should be able to provide a standard for such tests in relation to motor vehicles and that the police or whoever else should have to provide substantial evidence that the tests were carried out in accordance with such standards. I see no reason why you should not be present at the time to witness this.

We would certainly not be allowed to put a unit on the market that in our "opinion" wasnt very noisy......like most things we'd have to prove we'd done the job properly.

We are not far off now
That is EXACTLY what the 'government' want! Mass control over the entire nation. In their bid to keep democracy they are turning the country into a communist state. It wont be long before we all have ID cards with endless personal data stored in a chip on it effectively tagging the population! It's only going to get worse... just take a look around and you can see our civil liberties being slowly but surely taken away, makes you wonder who's really running the country..

Having any law enforcement subject to a coppers opinion is asking for trouble!

No two opinions are the same, and most coppers are tw@ts, you do the maths!

Have to disagree there, not all the NUR Spec exhausts are that loud, I have a Blitz NUR Spec S fitted to my MY03 STi and it's one of the quieter scoobs that frequent many scooby gatherings. TSL Firestorms and many of the Haywood and Scott systems are much louder for instance.

Maybe it's the NUR Spec R you are referring to. Mine still has the rear resonator fitted with the S.

The R still has a resonator in the centre section.

For the record, I like my Nur Spec R very much, and IMO of being around quite a lot of performance cars in the past, it isn't actually that loud, contrary to the opionions of some of the miserable old gits on here . As for why anyone would want one; they're a beautifully made exhaust which offers good power gains. Seems like good reasons to me.

The latest Firestorms appear to be quieter than older ones as well: someone at the Cambridge meets has a new one, bought for Xmas, and it's far quieter than the second-hand one I used to have a couple of years ago. My current H&S 3" sports cat system is relatively quiet at idle, but someone who followed me part-way home (I, er, left him behind...) says it's VERY loud when I boot it - but still quieter than old Firestorm.

[QUOTE=Prasius;7641374] I would guess this is more aimed at those in 1.2 Corsa's with £30 back boxes off Ebay.
