Main qualifications :

1. More money than sense
2. Small genitals
3. Inflated opinion of your own self importance
4. Years of inbreeding in your family
5. Owning a huge country house but not having £5 to pay the milkman

I've got a gold and platinum card ( not Amex ) and the cashiers always look at me like I've stolen them if I pay with them. Only reason I took them when they offered was because there was no charge and its a laugh.

If you want real proof of money though, I have a couple of customers who pay by cheque and they bank with Coutts. I dont know the exact figures as it would be terribly vulgar for them to talk about money, but I did hear a rumour that you need to have £1M to open your account with.

That would be a rather exaggerated rumour.

And wrong I know 2 people who have them - one is a millionaire and one definetly isn't! It's an invite thing. It used to be really exclusive and reserved for presidents / very snr execs that sort of thing, but that has changed a lot over the years. If you are doing a lot of travelling and entertaining, then the conceirge and insurance offerings are worth the annual fee.

Stoke Poges counytry club? Stoke Park Club? If so, I could imagine that there would be a fair few Amex Black holders there!

.
Thats the thing - Platinum and Gold cards are ten a penny these days - If you earn upwards of £20K and are over 21 then you can take your pick.

I mean its worth having them because generally they offer a better interest rate than the "normal" cards.

But they are a far cry from AmEx platinum charge cards (note Charge cards, not an AmEx platinum Credit card, which are also ten-a-penny)

A very important distinction, which many fail to realise, is that there is no statutory protection on your purchases when you buy something with a charge card. You have no recourse, unless the card company has some insurance scheme.

People with real money who aren't footballers or rappers tend not to have that kind of thing, a bit too flashy and a walking "rob me" advertisement. You might see a Coutts World card pop out when in the company of wealthy friends, but those are quite understated and many people don't know what they are.

As they phrase goes, money talks, wealth whispers.

To MikeCardiff, the requirements for Coutts aren't quite as harsh as you might think, you just need to be earning more than £100k per year and have a reasonable amount of fixed and liquid assets. You certainly don't need millions, but in all honesty to get the most from them you would be better off having millions. LLoyds TSB private banking offers a better deal around the £100k+ mark.

Although you'll get better service from C.***** & Co, you have to be recommended to join them and they are proud of the fact they don't take lottery winners.

Yes its is The Stoke Park Club, some right ar#eholes down there but some really nice people,Ian Wright was really nice as was Tess and Vern but some African Prime Minister who was there recently was thrown out (well his 60-70 hangers on where) but he went too, it is very stuffy if you know what i mean.

I have got myself a memebership now due to the work i have done for them and it is a nice place if a bit oldy worldy.

Far too many down there love to flash the Black Plastic.

Le Manoir is a much nicer place (But no Golf) and they let me stay there FREE as i'm also their Telecom supplier but i still have to pay £75 @ Stoke Park.

I'm glad the criteria for the Balck Amex is now clear as some idiot down there who had one said you needed £3 million liquid to get one, to go with his small ***** me thinks.

Yes it is.

Other well known films done there.

Goldfinger
Bridget Jones
Tomorrow Never Dies

They make good revenue allowing it to be used in the movies.

Nice, but no branches outside London, which is not too handy for those outside London.

The main requirement in the UK for getting one is to spend a lot of money on your Platinum American Express.

I didn't spend anywhere near $200,000 a year on mine I opted to the British Airways Black American Express recently. It's far cheaper than the Centurion and you get far more back i.e. tonnes of air miles.

The benefits zero other than pose factor........ which is negligible.

It's also true that the biggest problem with American Express in the UK is hardly anywhere except them.

It's really cool whipping out the black card only to find you have to pay with your maestro from the Abbey National because they don't take American Express.

Just a bunch of posers, the real money is on Scoobynet. Some seriously wealthy people on here.

Forgot to mention, I was invited to have a black Amex, in fact begged, but I declined as the colour clashed with my Louis Vuitton wallet.

Whats the advantage of having one anyway, especially if it costs £600 PA.

Agreed, cashback is very good. I'd put the acceptance rate at over 50% so definately worth having.
