Sorry for jumping in. Had mine done a while ago by Andy - well a few months at least - and it isn't possible to get a "nothing will go wrong" guarantee simply because you could leave the session, redline everywhere and blow the motor.
That said, Andy is very very careful when mapping. Having plugged all the sensors in he can tell immediately how your car is running, what it is doing all through the rev range and won't push it beyond a safe limit.
One thing he will do is put a dual map in so you can run standard on a run and then switch to the higher power map when you want some fun.
I had this because it keeps the boost level lower when on a long run at motorway speeds so less turbo wear but i'm not worried about the motor. Mine is an MY03 with 60,000 on it and i got 273bhp with just a centre decat, backbox and Samco intercooler hoses (as recommended by Andy)
The difference between the two is amazing and the gain on a WRX was impressive but not sure if a PPP STI will see the same level of gain since it is already up there with the power.
I was worried for reliability etc myself so i had a very sensible mapo done with sensible mods. The car sailed through the emissions test for the MOT too since i left two of the cats in place. Cat free you are looking at near 290bhp on a WRX so not bad!
Hope this helps. Well worth the wedge.
5t.
EDIT for urban - most of the mapping is done in 2nd and 3rd gear between 3 and 4k rpm. Trouble is often being too slow not too fast!

sounds good mate nice write up, im having my map done with h&s sports cat afterburner vortex and centre section and k&n panel filter and if i got 280bhp out of my wrx i would be very happy indeed

I think you'll be looking about the same as me. The filter won't do too much, the Y pipe for the intercooler was what Andy recommended to me - gets more air from the turbo and the OEM part is quite restrictive. Worth it if you can grab one.
The trouble i had is i wanted a useable MOt friendly car so i left the cats in. This means Andy needs to leave the car running richer (less power) otherwise the exhaust temps get too high and melt the cats which totally ruins the running. Guy with full decat but same year car has 290 bhp compared to me 273 but he's begging my CAT off me for the MOT!

I got mine from Roger Clark Motorsport over the phone (allowed me to haggle on the price too) Roger Clark Motorsport - Home as they weren't the cheapest but were the only ones with them in stock.

Fivetide - thank you thats exactly what I was looking to hear.
I don't expect a guarantee as such, but you described it perfectly "won't push it beyond a safe limit"
Also then the live mapping - mainly 2nd & 3rd gear?
So basically I'm nearly right, find a quiet road preferably with no police about.
Bushiwarrior - don't go near Donnelly's. Order on line, or closer to home if you like at performance subaru in coleraine.
Donnelly's would probably have something wrong with it, want to fit it and then some spotty mechanic would rake the crap out of your car probably whilst still cold up the M1.

My map was largely done on the A1 (70mph limit) so going slow was more of an issue than going fast. Andy got me to basically drive between junctions and boot it up the slip roads as the hill puts load on the engine and you can rev it up just getting up to speed.
We did do a few back road runs on a long straight nearby though. Also good idea to have somewhere to stop for a bit while Andy downloads his map into the ECU
5t.
EDIT additional advantage of the twin map - you can leave it in 'low power' mode if it has to go to a garage rather than lettign them loose at maximum attack mode!

Yeah, I really like the idea of the twin map.
Guys - while I make up my mind on a remap do we have an idea on a location yet.
OK scubbay mentions his place - I don't actually know where that is by the way
Also - the prices.
All prices are subject to 17.5% VAT
What if Andy was given an Irish VAT number, surely we then don't need to pay the VAT?

The vat number is definately a legit number - its our Dublin office.
Magherafelt will do for now, may need directions closer to the time.
How far from Belfast is it - 50mins?
Do we pay Andy direct or pay you?
I'm a little concerned about the remap still, however I'll happily listen to anything constructive on the topic.
Add me (Shaun) to the list please.

Since I already have the prodrive performance pack for my MY05 STI, I take it that means I fall into the licensed EcuTek map?

No it doesn't Prodrive licensed ECU's are different from normal EcuTek licensed ECU's so they require a license to be used.
