Another chav off the road

 

From toady's paper:

"She's been on that road riding her ponies and her horses thousands of times before. "There is no point in regretting what happened. It could just as easily have happened if she had been on her horse."


Her father even now, genuinely appears to have no inkling that he has done anything wrong in allowing this to happen. Apparently because his 7 year old daughter was confident and capable, it was fine to let her ride a quad bike on the road in the dark.

Perhaps it is the fact that she "was brought up on the farm and in the village", that she should have been OK?

Or the fact that riding a pony in daylight could have resulted in her death, so doing something far more dangerous and illegal at night should have been fine.

Her millionaire father on the other hand will still be driving his 4x4 round the village like he owns the place and no doubt, still allowing his reamining kids to do the same, judging by his lack of remorse.

 

A little harsh, I think. I believe his choice of words could have been better. I took the meaning to be more "Take on board the stupidness, awful error of judgement etc., but there's no going back on what happened so regretting it will only help to prolong the agony" As you can see, I'm giving the guy the benefit of the doubt here.
Blackmore is not far from me and there is a few quid floating around the area! so kids with lots of material things are common, pony owning 7 yr olds are not unusual. Although it's legal, a 7 yr old on a pony in a lane can be potentially more of a risk than an illegal quad bike! As an (ex) horse owning family, I speak with some authority here! The ability of his children to ride ponies on the public road led him, I believe, to assume it would not be a problem to allow them to make the short journey on the quads. That was a temptation he'll regret for the rest of his life (I hope?)

Just read the commets by the father as posted, seems to me he does not see that his actions and scant disregard for the law and common sense are the key factors. This was an easily avoidable accident FFS!


As for camparing it to a horse riding accident then more fool the father, no respectable/responsible parent would allow a 7 y/o out hacking on roads on their own(or with another child, or with a parent - in a car in front. I speak from experience of being around horses through my teens.

Police should be looking at the father and his actions quite closely as he is to blame - imho.

It is tragic and so avoidable and the result of bad parenting and bad decisions and a lack of common sense and breaking the law - the death of a little girl.

I hope the police/cps go after the father in this case.

Yep, locking him up for few years will really help the family recover from their little girls death won't it?

I think he'll be more punished by having to live with her death for the rest of his life than by anything the judicial system can throw at him

 

It is not about punishing the family - stupid father has already done this in the worse way imiginable, however, if he is at fault then he should be punished by law, you cannot just go letting people off because it will affect them, their business and their family. It should also act as a warning to other stupid and potenially irresponsible people.

Stupid father should have thought about the possible consequences of his stupid actions. If unable to then maybe this awful situation should serve as a warning to others, harsh maybe but FFS look at what happened and why, yes it is a tragedy, a preventable- yes very!, you know the rest.

Just heard this on the news. Backs up what the sensible posters on here said earlier.

 

Whilst I am sorry for the father as no one sets out to kill their child, I'm glad he's been nicked and equally glad the woman drving the other car is clearly innocent. A very sad occurrence caused through sheer stupidity coupled with an attempted cover up over really happened especially as moving the child could well have worsened the injuries.
