Richard welcomed him backwith a sarcastic comment (unnecessary), and MTR responded (who wouldn't?).
I know Rich is a very good personal friend of yours, but that's no reason for you to start attacking MTR personally yourself.
If Richard and MTR don't like each other, that's fine, but let them fight their own battles. Richard's a big boy now!
They both make good contribuitions, albeit in different ways, to the Scooby community. The board would benefit from having them both around, so I suggest everyone just lets bygones be bygones.

I would just like to say that the technical content of the posts of MTR and JF and superb, and technical content such as this is the main reason why I continue my (humble) interest in this bulletin board.

Talking of mudflaps not mudslinging, I saw some very nice ones in blue with the yellow subaru logo on at graham goode and thought they would look very nice on my car, so I enquired as to the cost and was dumb founded to be told £225.00+vat+delivery approx £275.00!!!! a pair. Anybody got any ideas where you can get these at a reasonable cost?. Or perhaps MTR's advice will come in very useful.

Im sorry, maybe its just me, but Im still amazed that people will spend the money on a scoob, and then start screwing bits of bin lid to their car!
The turbo "mudflaps" work excellently, are a bit expensive, but add to the lines of the car IMHO.
What next, see the seats and use old montego ones as they are cheaper?

In these times of safety I am still amazed that mudflaps are not compulsary as they seriously reduce the "misting" off the back of cars at speed. They should be fitted by all manufacturers as standard.
The scoob turbo ones do work, Ive ragged it up and down a farmers track a few times (private land, stone covered hardened mud track), and there are NO chips down the side of my car at all

That's their mentality, customers have got pots of dosh, charge 'em what you like.
I don't mind paying for the technology of my car, heck I get it serviced by my dealer,and I don't object to their charges. BUT I do object to people having a laugh at my expense. Fitting some cobs of rubber behind each wheel, over two hundred quid. Yeah, I came down with the last shower mate.
It's called having more money than sense where I come from.

As a prospective secondhand purchaser of a car, would you a) purchase off someone who obviously wanted to enhance his car, and look after his car "expense no issue", or b) someone who is not happy to spend money on obvious things, who is therfore more likely to try and skimp somewhere else, like wax for instance!!
I would be very pissed if I bought a car and found someone had tried to save a few quid and damaged something else somewhere else!

Neither is as efficient as a proper mudflap in protecting the lower underside of the leading edge of the sill.
As for for my maintenance schedules.
Honda then Yamaha motorbikes, oil changed every 4 weeks, Dunlop tyres used, Renolds chain used, all other parts genuine manufacturer.

So you can't always judge a book by its cover.
In my case cheap mudflap thingys, but maintained to well above std requirements.
As you can see I will not scrimp on the quality of major components, and touch wood, throughout my driving carreer, hve never had a car or engine failure, even whilst competing in BTRDA autotests, club road rallies, production car trials, and normal driving. Lucky I know.
Some items such as mudflaps or wax will not keep your car going or run any better, so why pay premium rate when you can buy the same/similar gear for considerably less, so you can spend your money on additional oil changes. The life blood of any car.

Funny that the wife says just the same, along with quite a few of my collegues at work, but they just dismiss my actions as those of a mild eccentric.
Funny thing is I still rarely polish my car, but will try my damdest to slow the rusting process.
Although with the amount of water it sees, I may well be defeating the object.

I was trying (apparently partially successfully) to not imply that you didnt maintain your cars correctly.
But, in my experience, that is what happens, enthusiasts normally do not mind spending the money, where as the cheap skates do things like using a back street garage etc etc
Example. A mate who was an enthusiast couldnt service his own car (mechanic by trade) so he thought bugger, I will get it done at the local garage (backstreet village jobbie), and do it again myself in a month or so just to be sure. 6 weeks later he does the service, and finds that the same oil filter he put on 6/7 months earlier is STILL on the car. The garages excuse when he confronted them (after denial) was that the part was out of stock, so they had no choice. (They still charged him for the part tho!)
Just a cautionary tale, and why I am how I am. Dont even ask me about the local tyre and exhaust place that do not have a trained mechanic in the building, but will happily strip down your brakes and suspension, and fit new parts for you. Paying for experts? erm no.

Top, just for interest.
Thin (1.5mm) black UPVC sheet should probably be available from companies that do UPVC facia and soffit replacements, maybe, as well as UPVC manufactures of course.
