Oh, come on John.
It was infact Richard's comments that flared this back up again, not MTR's.
You yourself welcomed MTR back with a little smilie and some humour.
Richard welcomed him backwith a sarcastic comment (unnecessary), and MTR responded (who wouldn't?).
I know Rich is a very good personal friend of yours, but that's no reason for you to start attacking MTR personally yourself.
If Richard and MTR don't like each other, that's fine, but let them fight their own battles. Richard's a big boy now!
They both make good contribuitions, albeit in different ways, to the Scooby community. The board would benefit from having them both around, so I suggest everyone just lets bygones be bygones.
Now then, where's the peace pipe?

I would like to publically apologise for going into rant mode, which quite obvoiusly is of no benefit to you or I , or other members of this board.

I have removed all offencive comments made by myself on this post, it would be a nice gesture (as in peace pipe mode as Stefs suggestion) if both of you could do likewise.

We do not neede to air our dirty washing in public, and hopefully we will have no cause to fall out in future, argue and disagree, no problems, but lets keep it professional. We have to have standards.

I have absolutely no desire to fall out with anybody on this BBS over silly trivial personality clashes. I am sure we can all be a little bit bigger than that.

John, you are a technical marvel of information, who can and does, add valuable info to some of my less than perfect posts, to the benefit of all concerned, and although you may not believe it, I APPRECIATE THAT.

You gave your support to my argument on the censorship thread, which was greatly appreciated,and as John has pointed out you allowed someone else to blast your 22B around Donnington, for a very credible cause. For that alone I must salute you.
If I could afford a 22B, I might let someone fiddle with the wife, but know way would they fiddle with me B

Talking of mudflaps not mudslinging, I saw some very nice ones in blue with the yellow subaru logo on at graham goode and thought they would look very nice on my car, so I enquired as to the cost and was dumb founded to be told £225.00+vat+delivery approx £275.00!!!! a pair. Anybody got any ideas where you can get these at a reasonable cost?. Or perhaps MTR's advice will come in very useful.

Im sorry, maybe its just me, but Im still amazed that people will spend the money on a scoob, and then start screwing bits of bin lid to their car!

The turbo "mudflaps" work excellently, are a bit expensive, but add to the lines of the car IMHO.

What next, see the seats and use old montego ones as they are cheaper?

In these times of safety I am still amazed that mudflaps are not compulsary as they seriously reduce the "misting" off the back of cars at speed. They should be fitted by all manufacturers as standard.

The scoob turbo ones do work, Ive ragged it up and down a farmers track a few times (private land, stone covered hardened mud track), and there are NO chips down the side of my car at all

That's their mentality, customers have got pots of dosh, charge 'em what you like.

I don't mind paying for the technology of my car, heck I get it serviced by my dealer,and I don't object to their charges. BUT I do object to people having a laugh at my expense. Fitting some cobs of rubber behind each wheel, over two hundred quid. Yeah, I came down with the last shower mate.

It's called having more money than sense where I come from.

MTR fitted the "plasflectors" to my car in about 10 minutes, and that was while he was showing a couple of us how to do it. They don't do exactly what mudflaps do, they fill in the eliptitcal curve at the bottom of the body work, so you don't get the sand blasted hammerite look on the exterior paintwork just behind the front wheels. So you see my point about £200 odd quid?

Agree with you 100% that mudflaps should be a statutory requirement at manufacture, as should a device which switches off foglights (front and back) once above a certain speed, when,per se, they are not necessary.

Look at it another way. As a prospective secondhand purchaser of a car, would you a) purchase off someone who obviously wanted to enhance his car, and look after his car "expense no issue", or b) someone who is not happy to spend money on obvious things, who is therfore more likely to try and skimp somewhere else, like wax for instance!!

I would be very pissed if I bought a car and found someone had tried to save a few quid and damaged something else somewhere else!

Im not saying that is the case, but, its a logical conclusion you could make.

A little of topic but,
I agree with your outlook regarding people who don't want to spend money on their car, but only so far as maintenance is concerned.
A £500 CD player is worth naff all when the oil in the engine gets done once every 12 months etc
And I have NEVER listened to music in my car whilst driving, am always listening for bits falling off.

These guards are similar to the Prodrive ones, or should I say that the Prodrive ones are similar to these, cost of one type £20 the other £1.

Neither is as efficient as a proper mudflap in protecting the lower underside of the leading edge of the sill.

As for for my maintenance schedules.
Honda then Yamaha motorbikes, oil changed every 4 weeks, Dunlop tyres used, Renolds chain used, all other parts genuine manufacturer.

Oil every 3 month or 3000 miles (wifes Sierra does 5K a year still has 4 oil + filter changes/year.
Pistons used -Hepolite
Shells- Glacier/Vandervell
Gaskets- Genuine Ford or Payen

Cam Belts- Genuine Ford
Cam Chains- Genuine Ford
Camshaft - Kent, or Genuine Ford
Valves- Genuine ford
Plugs-NGK every 10K miles (from my biking days)
Oil filters - Genuine Ford (buy 6 at a time)
Oil - Castrol GTX API SJ, used to be API SH
Brake Fluid - Lockheed (every 2 years)
Brake pads/Linings - Ferodo & or Mintex
Discs - Ferodo
Wheel bearings -Timken/SKF
Dampers- Spax/ Monroe
Tyres - Dunlop,Goodyear, Pirreli, Yokohama
Clutches - Borg & Beck
Air Filters - Genuine Ford or K & N
Gearbox Oil - Castrol
Additional Instrumentation - Smiths
Roll cage - Alleybars
Harnesses - Kangol (3 point)
Anti Freeze - Genuine Ford

Subaru Impreza Turbo,
Service as per handbook using Castrol GTX Magnatec API SJ/CF (minimum grade recomended is API SH) supplied by me, at 6 monthly intervals, + Oil chnged at 3 months and 9 months, to give maximum mileage between changes of 3 months or 3K miles, ie 4 time/year.
Tyres - Bridgestone,Pirreli
Discs - Genuine Subaru
Pads - Genuine Subaru

Additionally, when I drive my car when there is salt on the road, I wash it all over especially underneath after EVERY trip, regardless of what time I get home.
If I have had a 'play out' in my car and return at 1am in the morning, it gets a lot of water on it, and under it, washed, dryed, and put to bed.

Get some funny looks doing that.
One young lad a coming home from a night out at about 2am one Friday night/ Saturday morning chipped in with 'you got up early didn't you' We both laughed.

I know you shouldn't put a car away when its wet, but at least its clean water, not salty water. I also carry 2 gallons of water in my car to work, to rinse the sides down on arrival at work on the car park. Get some funny looks. don't know why.

So you can't always judge a book by its cover.
In my case cheap mudflap thingys, but maintained to well above std requirements.

As you can see I will not scrimp on the quality of major components, and touch wood, throughout my driving carreer, hve never had a car or engine failure, even whilst competing in BTRDA autotests, club road rallies, production car trials, and normal driving. Lucky I know.

Some items such as mudflaps or wax will not keep your car going or run any better, so why pay premium rate when you can buy the same/similar gear for considerably less, so you can spend your money on additional oil changes. The life blood of any car.

Funny that the wife says just the same, along with quite a few of my collegues at work, but they just dismiss my actions as those of a mild eccentric.

Funny thing is I still rarely polish my car, but will try my damdest to slow the rusting process.
Although with the amount of water it sees, I may well be defeating the object.

I was trying (apparently partially successfully) to not imply that you didnt maintain your cars correctly.

But, in my experience, that is what happens, enthusiasts normally do not mind spending the money, where as the cheap skates do things like using a back street garage etc etc
Example. A mate who was an enthusiast couldnt service his own car (mechanic by trade) so he thought bugger, I will get it done at the local garage (backstreet village jobbie), and do it again myself in a month or so just to be sure. 6 weeks later he does the service, and finds that the same oil filter he put on 6/7 months earlier is STILL on the car. The garages excuse when he confronted them (after denial) was that the part was out of stock, so they had no choice. (They still charged him for the part tho!)

Just a cautionary tale, and why I am how I am. Dont even ask me about the local tyre and exhaust place that do not have a trained mechanic in the building, but will happily strip down your brakes and suspension, and fit new parts for you. Paying for experts? erm no.

Thin (1.5mm) black UPVC sheet should probably be available from companies that do UPVC facia and soffit replacements, maybe, as well as UPVC manufactures of course.

Had I not posted this in the first place, Prodrive probably wouldn't have bothered to offer to rip people off, sorry I mean sell them extortionatly overpriced bits of rubber sheet for £20.

If this helps ONE person save some money for poor and needy over Christmas, then it will all have been worth it.
