The Baby Name Wizard: NameVoyager

Please, though, don't saddle the poor kid with an 'unusual' or 'fashionable' name just for the sake of it, a bad choice can only make his life difficult or miserable. No kid ever got teased at school for being called Dave...

If we had a boy, we've agreed on Oliver. I just like the ring of Ollie.

It's "Olly", Ollie is short for Olive or Olivia! And no, I don't care what Wikipedia says

It's the same poster that declared she wouldn't say what dog she had for fear of abuse. Does that help?

"Adolph" has fallen into spectacular disuse over the years, maybe you could help improve its popularity?

This is our new addition at 20 weeks!!
Wife and I were in disagreement about names. Eventually, I compromised!

Jade is actualy a lovely name, just has a slightly negative association these days.

I would always choose mainstream and 'user -friendly'. Being called Asif always made for some amusement at school for thers (children can be SO cruel!) but did work as a 'character building' vehicle for myself.

Tom and Dave are perfect, except that when older said child will wonder why he got the 'boring' name over the others'.

Had a mate at school called Jeremy, but was shortened to Jerry, which I thought was very cool. Very Seventies.

for boys names we have got a small list at present
Jacob
Joshua
Joseph

Missus has chosen a few girls names
Sophia
Natalyia (not Natalie)

We stopped on the girls though as I have told her she is having a boy
Funnily enough we were very into Biblical names for boys:
Adam
Daniel
Jesus
Isaac

But would have been the Arabic pronounciations:
Aadam
Danyaal
Isa
Ishaak

But then found out we were having a girl so that all went out of the window!

And we have settled on Sophia/Sofia!

IMHO boring is good - and why should he wonder why he didn't get called something else? I certainly don't, I'm just grateful to my parents for giving me a normal first name that doesn't cause me any problems.

My surname, on the other hand, is a PITA, because it's spelled a completely different way from how it's pronounced (Cawte, pronounced 'court'). I don't mind spelling it out to people, but it does p*ss me off when they still manage to get it wrong - it's only 5 letters long FFS, but I still find that half the people I deal with over the phone can only remember the first three before asking me to repeat it. (My Dad even had someone tell him once that he was wrong...!)

Unusual names - they're just a nuisance
