Frayz, just one thing, there are plenty of Canon users here, whose lenses you might want to borrow etc....

Also, we are more au-fait with Canon settings among the group.

Not to say they will be much different.

DSLRs are coming down in price all the time. also if you find someone going to the states, you will also get 20-30% saving minimum!!!

food for thought

also remember you might need someone to translate the manual into english!!

mom = mum
color = colour etc

That extra premium for the peace of mind is worth alot when youre spending a fair bit if cash on a camera IMO.

Canon have an international warranty mate

Would have no problem getting it fixed locally if there was an issue

Sure that is the same for the other makes as well

most cameras are pretty good these days all depending what u really wanna use it for, i personally like to use the old manual ones where u can do ur own focusing n change different lenses for different purposes..not a cheap hobbie but i'd say canon brand cameras are still best around...(my mate jus bought a canon camera with a 28million mgp that costs jus over 5k)..so yeah, normal everyday use, anything with over 4mgp is good enough...

its all about having the right tool for the job some spot on comments if you cant be bothered to learn how to get the moxt out of a d-slr buy a point and clic but. if ya in to your pic taking or motor sport push the boat out and go for a d-slr you wont be disapointed with the results and they can be set up in a point and clic way but i urge you to do a bit of reading its not that hard to work out "f" stops aperture which is what controls the depth of field that was talked about. slow shutter speeds and fast shutter speed also have quite a effect on pics

Nice, those 2 lenses will cover practically everything you use it for.

Shame it's a Nikon but you weren't to know [runs and hides from Dave]

frayz i had the d80 in my sights for a very long time until i see how slow the multi frame burst was if you dont need that feature dont worry but i think it was 3 frames a second this sounds fast but if you try it against the cannon 400d 30d and 40d it seems quite slow the 40d's being 6.5 per second

Nice shopping list Frayz. Wouldn't expect it any other way.

Well my little crapio Caplio does me. Point & shoot before the bu$$er moves is my motto.By the time I set the settings there would be nothing there to take a picture of.

Don't forget that however much you spend on your gear you still need subject matter & composition.

I think i'll be more than happy enough messing with that little lot.

Some say Cannon, some say Nikon. Personally i just prefer the Nikon brand and have always been impressed with the quality of their kit. Dad has always used Nikon equipment so i guess it was a a little bit of bias for me.

Everyone can pick holes in every camera but the RRP on the D80 is £699 for the body alone without a lense... im guessing its probably not that bad

Dave68 only uses Nikon... Nuff said IMO
