Bike Engined Cars - too fragile for daily use??
Cheers Carl
Our firecat (2 seater car) weighs in at 420kg and has had the same busa engine in since she was first built in 1999!! just regular oil changes
the only problem we have had is the cam chain tensioner (which was a recall from Suzuki) and the starter motor, as if you spin the car you can strip the teeth on the starter motor. Gearbox is standard, so as you can see they can be very reliable. Dont forget ours has been used in races and hillclimbs plus lots of track day fun
Think of what engine the touring cars of the day used!

They did but that was only because of the way it was packaged in a front wheel drive car, ie get the heat of the exhaust away from the intake. If it's going in a front engined rear wheel drive car then the normal head arrangement will make the same power as the reversed head with lots less hassle. Touring car engines were from Speiss. Check out SBD for some big powered Vx red tops.

I have a 4.8L Rover V8 (TVR internals, X bolted etc) T5 gear box, Cosworth Rear diff, on a Luego Viento (I'm long legged). Have to say V8 all the way, if its an "in the mood car" and if its a seven it will be, fuel consumption will not be a worry, if you manage 5k a year I'll be surprised, mind you I only have an aero screen on mine and no heater so that does discourage!
You really just cannot better at big lusty V8 for bucket loads of instant mind bending torque, non of this waiting around for stuff to spool, or hunting down through the box for a few million revs. Its point and slide action. And you get the option of going backwards on demand, and if so minded you can do it without engaging reverse!

Sorry, but a big lazy V8 just does not seem right in a seven type car
My Westie with an SBD looked at redtop was great fun - you have to work a little to get the performance but so what? I imagine BECs are the same only more so.

Drop in a LS6, pure pull from 700rpm to 7000rpm and its not any heavier. Or an LS7 if you have money to burn.
Who says pushrods are heavy and can't rev?

But I lay bets that it would last about 1000 miles before being binned or going on an unexpected off-road expedition
