Lost my cat to throat cancer and cried like i've never cried before then my step dad said 'it's only a cat' he got a few choice words in his direction (guy was a pr**k anyway).
We've got 2 cats now and they are getting on a bit (still healthy though but it's hard to be ill when they just sleep all day so not looking forward to going home one day and finding their not there anymore.

What pisses me off though is that everyone who has commented loves and cherishs their pets and then you get scumbags who abuse them (off topic but it makes my blood boil)

I know very well how you felt Swiss. Our lovely old tortoiseshell died of a heart attack in my arms. It hit us very hard because she was such a loving pet. I did the same as you and buried her. Our other cat who is now 22 years old often sits by her grave now. It is awful to lose a pet especially when they have been with you for so long.

I honestly have no shame in saying that this post has brought a tear to my eye. My wife and I have no kids so the cats get treated as substitutes.

F'ing cattery lost one of my cats last year 10 minutes after we had left him there.

We spent about 3 months going door to door, distributed about a 1000 posters, adverts in local papers. We responded to every sighting about 20 in all (we still get them a year on) and still no luck.

I tried to console my wife by saying that he was a tough aggressive cat and that he is probably keeping some lonely old dear company, deep down though I know he's probably dead.

Point of this post is that IMO the best thing you can do is consider getting another cat. I say consider due to where you live ie next to a busy road. It will never be a replacment (I speak from experience) but it eases the pain so much.

Not easy when you have had them a while, especially cats, dogs, rabbits etc, there are loads about but each one has its own character and you get attached very quickly, digging the grave is the worst part, have buried a few cats over the years and its a horrible task.
Living on a busy road i would not have another as the same is likely to happen, another pet will ease the pain, get a snake or turantula, she's less likely to get attatched to that.

A nice post mate ..

Thing is even though the g/f wanted another one immediately, I think its not wise because of the road and I certainly dont want to be doing more digging anytime soon . I think she has come around to the idea that it isnt a great idea but who knows, I may be the one who caves in first and bring home a bloody kitten

yes and they have died, to put things into retrospect, i was at my 50 year old fathers funeral last wednesday, (3 weeks when i "last saw him" he was fine )now i can fully understand why people get upset over stuff like this, with it being close relatives (pets i cant get my head around), hell i have never seen my brother cry like he did, but you know what, the world keeps spinning and IMO getting upset over this stuff does nothing to help, the best thing to do IMO is just get back into life and stop dwelling on things you cant control.

i dont consider the post above as trolling, i have always had a very logical view regarding death and such, it happens, we cant really stop it, its better to accept it then bash heads trying to fix things we cant really fix.

and yes i was very close to my father so its not like i hated him, he would not of wanted me to start crying and messing about!

Micky

If you had posted as you, then I would have taken it at face value, but since you posted as one of your numerous aliases (and ghetto dude dosent hold much credability), then I considered it pratting about.

BTW I didnt rate your post or even bother with an infraction, because I could see your point, I just hate people hiding behind aliases.

I guess it's just a case of different strokes for different folks. I am as soft as the preverbial with certain people and animals
I certainly did not consider your post to be trolling, it's how you feel at the end of the day
Sorry about your Dad btw, I know how you feel on that one, my Dad was only 47 when he died

Sorry about your dad Micky, you do have a point about making the distinction between pets and humans but anything that is part of your life leaves a big hole when its gone.

So what you need to do is make the most of people (and pets) while they are here.

i would agree with that, but i have always looked at the fact that everybody i know is going to die, yes i think he "went to soon" but mopeing about the place will not do anything to help, to be honest i think my mother and sister are just making themselves worse, they both tried to do CPR on him at the time and constantly remind themselves of everything to do with the "event"

i think that if they both just got on with things it would help them far better then "reliving the moments" constantly.

I had the same tasl approx 18 months ago with one of our cats, an he did like to roam, a person from the road behind us knocked on the door one morning (after checking his collar) to inform us where he was.

When I buried him, I preferred not to put him in a bag, as I didn't like the idea of it.

On another note, I was waiting to see whether a troll was going to post something about being 'de-catted'
