Whilst past performance is no indicator of future performance you'd do well to check up on Petes performance over the last 5yrs ...

If the 300 point drop equated to 77 billion then the fact it has dropped from a high of about 6800 means it has in total lost 1000 points or (approx) £250 billion over the last few weeks(if my maths is right-probably not!).

B of E suggest maybe a rate cut in Feb but no promises of anything else.

2008 is going to be pants

Still a thousand points down from two months ago though.

I feel a bit giddy with the up,down,up,down bit at the moment.Glad I don't partake in this.I wouldn't have the nerve for it

So market today ends at 6070 - hows the doom and gloom going? 4 months on from the start of the thread and we're not really that much changed from mid August- hardly a crash then!

Question for Pete95 when the market doesn't crash, do you feel miserable?

He feels miserable all the time. He had to get double prozac when mortgage approvals and completions went up in the first three weeks of Feb

Well I'd feel like a **** if I kept doing house/stock/dog/fish market crash threads every 3 months and none of them ever came true, especially over a 7 year priod.

Everything is incredibly artificial it seems.

Stock market hasn't recovered the huge chunk that was taken off it

It is only going to take one small thing to reveal what is really going on behind the papering over the cracks

Today is another 'bad Monday'

Might not have been an instant crash but shares have gone down shedloads over the last few months.6800 down to about 5500

And it seems the Banks here and in America STILL haven't revealed the full extent of their losses.

No wonder gold is rocketing.Isn't it when everyone jumps ship and ditches shares?

Petem95....you might be right

Gosh yes - the market is down 681 (11.02%) in the last 6 months, or down 10.26 % for the last 12 months - compare with a REAL crash in Oct 87 where it went down 20% in 2 days.

A crash will never happen again like that because that was when automated systems had were in their infancy, and basically automatically sold loads of shares when they fell to a certain level.

The house price crash has already started - anyone who thinks current prices can be maintained in this financial climate is... erm.. wrong basically.

Wait for the YoY stats towards the end of the summer, and watch the YoY falls get steeper and steeper.

Lucky I pulled out of my shares based investments (regrouping funds). I could have lost out quite a bit on a few (short term, at least).
