As boring as this thread is, it does have to be said that their customer services are pretty poor. I had the unfortunate experience of buying a set top box from them. It failed outside of the 28 days, therefore I was not able to demand a replacement.

Dixons were prepared to negotiate on my behalf with the manufacturer for a replacement, but only if I returned the box to them, and also collected the repaired/replacement unit. This meant two round trips of 30 miles and an extra delay of two weeks while staff members dealt with it.

After four replacement units the issue still continued. The Digi box I had simply failed after about 1-3 months of use. Clearly it was a problem model, but neither Dixons or the manufacturer would allow me to have an alternative model. Each were adamant that the model was amazingly fantastically great, and I was the only one with the issue. This puzzled the delivery driver as his van was full of them

Anyway, at one point I received a brand new replacement. I took them at their word and sold it on eBay and washed my hands of the sorry affair. 5 units in total, endless missed TV and shocking service.

I wish I had bought from Sony. My dad did, and his digi box also developed a fault. He walked in off the street 6 months after buying it. They looked at it for about 1 min and handed him a replacement which he walked out of the store with. That is how to do business. Not make someone wait up to a month at a time (no digital TV) for a replacement that consistently also failed.

This is where the DSG Retail Group put their own rules in place which restrict your Statutory Rights ...... CAB are fully aware of DSG Retail doing just this!!

The 28 days is THEIR own limit ... it is NOT the LEGAL limit!!!!! From memory, the legal limit is 6 years - YES, 6 YEARS!!!!!

If this thread serves no purpose except to make the general public aware of their Legal Rights when dealing with sharks like Currys, Dixons, PCWorld and Pixmania then it will have been worth it.

problem is Les, I, (and i am sure many others) Wish Pete all the best and hopes he stuffs them good and proper - But you go onto NSR home page and see a new post from pete on this thread, you click it in the hope that a) There is a court date, b) Currys have sorted him, c) there is some proper news.....

Instead you get posts of inane clap trap, and slagging off Currys.

He may as well just start a new thread entitled "CURRYS aftersales sevice is crap" then BTT it himself every half an hour, as to all intents and purposes that is what he is doing on here anyway. At least then i would not keep my eye on the thread in the hope that he has some genuine news, when all you get is the same boring old dross - it's just a waste of the readers time.

Of course, i totally understand why he is doing it - and that is 50% that he wants to put pressure on them (as if they are watching or bothered in the slightest) and 50% he is just an outright attention *****..

And to be frank, your sucking up just makes the whole thing even sadder..

p1mark, you are pretty close with 'some' of your deductions.

1. I do want to keep pressure on DSG Retail through this thread - and, as I am led to believe, it is being followed closely ...... that is the simple reason I have not disclosed my case on here (not in the detail the court will hear anyway).

2. I may be an attention seeker ..... personalities, aren't they great?

3. Leslie doesn't 'suck up to me' - he and I would take that as an afront to be honest, Les and I have had some big spats in the past and still do over politics ..... he just happens to support me in this instance.

4. This thread could be VERY important to anyone with a faulty TV and trying to deal with the ***** of Electrical Retailing.

5. It could, maybe in a small way, make DSG Retail treat their future customers better.

I thank you for your wishes that I 'Give it to Currys' and I intend to .... this thread is a small part of my armoury in fighting back against the giant as a google search will throw this thread up to the wider world. It is one thread in thousands so you should be able to just ignore it?

No defence has been received as of yet and it is confusing me somewhat - they have had months now to sort out a defence ...

Contact the court and ask what is going on. I thought they had applied for 14 days to prepare a defence, that must be well and truly gone by now.

Of course, if you'd bought a decent TV from John Lewis you wouldn't be having this problem... what's the expression "Buy cheap, buy twice*".

Childish I know, but it still makes me laugh when I think back to all those 'My LG is the dogs boll0cks' posts you put up ... ! Oh the irony!!

* or go to court and post a rambling thread about it, whilst putting up with a barely usable TV in the meantime

Ha Ha Ha - you miss the point entirely .... the LG still has the best picture I have seen when showing a Standard Feed. A faulty panel doesn't mean that it isn't still the best by a country mile.

Yes, the build quality of LG has a lot to be desired - but in pure PQ terms it kicks the rest into the bushes.

They did have 14 days, then asked the Court for a 'Stay' to compile a defence - they also asked the Court to issue an order that I supply all my paperwork ........ they were granted 28 days from the receipt of that paperwork to put a defence in.

I will check with the Court next Monday as all the time requested will be up then.

Picture quality alone isn't enough to justify buying a TV, surely build quality, support services, functionality etc. also warrent consideration. What's the point inhaving something that would look great if reliability issues make it unusable...!

Actually, being a TVR owner I think I probably know the answer to that one!!

Excellent news ....

I'm not sure how many people have been made to think twice about shopping at a DSG Retail company .... Dixons, Currys, PCWorld and Pixmania .... but, it is certainly a good number.

The income lost by Currys and the rest of the group is huge compared to whatever they think they may have saved by treating me so badly - at the end of the day they may well have to refund me all my money so have lost my future custom, future custom of all my family, all my friends and anyone who does a search on review sites .....

DSG Retails stupidity is jaw dropping, absolutely unreal ...... all they need to do is treat Customers like John Lewis do and they would be home and dry

I agree with you ... but PQ is what you buy a TV for

I would not say to anyone 'Buy a LG product' - but ... it's hard when LG stand out in the showroom as showing by far the best picture!

Had my TV not had a faulty pixel I would be a very happy viewer - the rest of the TV is excellent.

With the benefit of hindsight, I would only buy something like this from John Lewis ...... they didn't stock LG when I bought (which is the reason I didn't shop there) - not sure if they stock LG now? Maybe that simple thing should have alerted me to the fact that LG TV's are not good enough for John Lewis and therefore should be avoided?

And yes, you know a thing or two about crappy products if you own and drive a TVR!!!

In company with you and I am sure many others on this forum, I sincerely hope that Pete wins this case and get the maximum satisfaction from the way it is dealt with by the court.

Pete has already explained that we have diametrically opposing views when it comes to politics and we have had some very positive discussions about all that in the past. We are both mature enough not to let that colour our feelings when it comes to other matters and as he explained, I do support him, even as you do in this matter over the "pixel" etc. I feel that I am fully entitled to mention that on this thread, and also if I feel like making a bit of a joke on the side over supporting him that it does not entitle you to make such accusations against me. Feel lucky that I do not hold with infracting people although I reckon that I might well be within my rights to do just that.

If you are wondering why I have said all that, your last remark as well as being inaccurate is extremely unpleasant and also quite unnecessary. The smiley is no justification either. If I had passed a remark like that even accidentally, I would like to think that I was at least big enough to apologise.

Les,

Pete's response is exactly as i would expect - Taking the post with the humour that was intended and getting my point in a round-about kind of way, so fair play to the boring old fart . It's a shame you don't have the same kind of nature.....

As a direct answer to your request, i appologise - but reservedly. It was rather rude agreed but thats how it comes across to me so i am only being honest. In my (slight) defence it was posted at 1.00 am in the morning where i am, and i was a bit pissed, please take my overt rudeness as simple alcohol fuelled playfullness.

Either that, or simply give me the benefit of the doubt and say the tedium of the thread drove me to abusing you.

For the record, I am certainly not hiding behind a smilie, and Infract away if you wish, i'm certainly not one to go complaining (doing a Lewis as it's known) justified or not. It's a BBS, not life or death, something you might do well to remember before getting oversensitive about throw away comments?

I don't want to ignore it, not ashamed to admit you OWN me. I am genuinely interested in how you got on...

I'm just bored stupid of clicking on the thread to see you spouting endless repetetive sh1te when i am hoping to see some relavent news.

I just hope that it does not backfire on yourself and you get adequate and deserved recompense. You say you are well informed that they are keeping an eye on this thread - If they are, maybe Currys would have come to an amicable settlement by now if you had not been so up yourself? I think if i was a Currys marketing director i would be instructing my lawyers to take you all the way and throw everything i had at you in anticipation of the humiliating "I lost" post.

If I lose it will not be humiliating at all ....... indeed, to do NOTHING would have been humiliating - knowing that the TV in the Lounge has the most annoying fault known to man and I did NOTHING about it???????

I watch a 10" LCD TV in the dining room rather than get wound up by the LG and have done since I noticed the damned fault.

Nah, too many people take it up the rear end in this day and age by big corporations like DSG Retail and it's about time someone stood up to them and made them accountable for their disgraceful Customer Service!

You miss the point, you see? I CANNOT lose - I simply cannot ...... it's like Barnet playing a Cup Football Match against Manchester United .... everyone EXPECTS Man. Utd. to win with their size and money - but everyone WANTS the little fellas to win.

Besides, the press are waiting my call to say it is going to Court, so are Watchdog ..... the name of DSG Retail will be dragged through the press, letting an old, frail, man with a walking stick and disability go to court .... especially when the fault is shown to the world!

So, you see? I can only win whatever the outcome

All accepted of course, good to see you are prepared to do that. Obviously it did annoy me at the time since I am not one to do that sort of thing. Neither as I said would I infract you anyway for my own reasons. I took it more seriously because of the context in which it was said and was not inclined to accept it as a humerous comment. I am capable enough of replying in kind if I had seen it in that light.

Should we ever meet, I'll stand you a beer anyway, and even Pete too in spite of his quite ridculous support for his hero becoming President of the Eu!

Under the freedom of information act, (as implemented by teflon) you only have to ask and firms are obliged to disclose information about themselves,

"Dear Mr Dixons,"

please can you furnish details of pending court cases in the Uk in the next 30 days,

not difficult to work out where the case will be heard.

Public gallery is open to all,

and photography outside the court is also allowed.

i reckon within 2 hours of you day in court, your picture could be on here

then we'll see if you are who what you say you are

Mart, a couple of points which should be made:-

The Judge needs to give permissions for the public to be there, so the documents say.

And, more disturbingly, who the hell would be at all, in the least bit, interested in what I look like? Those who really would go to those lengths need help - wouldn't you agree, Mart?

Pete I bought my new TV today.............NOT from Currys or their group. So thats another potential customer lost. It would have been much easier for me to go to them - I have had to put myself out to go elsewhere.

bollox, its an open court unless specificly announced as not being for legal reasons, which in this claim there wont be, so you will be able to get entry to watch in the public gallery
