Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Official Release Date
Once a couple of you have it up and running, could you try the screen sharing feature in iChat and see if it actually works. In the last dev seed it still would not work, and this was between two machines on the same network. I'm sure it was just an iChat 4 issue as the actual screensharing app ( /System/Library/Core Services/Screen Sharing.app - pop that on your dock, very nice app) would allow you to screen share quite happily.
Ok, this isn't a massive problem, but it would have been nice if developers had access to the GM build before end users, as there could still be issues like this in the GM, and they might be only small niggling issues, but they could effect the majority of users. There is also the other fact that Apple may state there have only been small changes between the final seed and GM, but without detailing exactly what those changes were, it's hard to know how it'll effect software.

hey if apple have decided it wont run and god knows how dog slow it would be on older macs, then I aint even attempting to
imagine the grief you will get....
now what else have you got to offer ??

It's not actually too bad on older machines. I've managed to get it running on an old G4 Tower and it's about the same speed as 10.4. It happened to have more than enough RAM for 10.5, but failed on the processor check, hence why a little bit of research was done into how the installer checks the requirements. After a bit of poking around, we got it to install and it was more than happy.
One other thing to anyone with the 10.5 installer. If you fancy doing me a favor (I want to check something hasn't changed from the dev seeds), then can you PM/email me please.
(whats the time difference again between here and canada
)I have resisted putting it on the G5 in the office as a) I am too busy and b) I am leaving the first install to the brand new iMac 24" I have at home
If you can hang on until I get home I can email you then.
is it urgent ??
I am built like an alp and am ridged for the ladies comfort
Leopard is now installing as I type this on t'other mac. Had a momentary panic when the installer couldnt see the internal hard disk
But after about 15 secs and a few clicks on the back button it saw it..phew
Anyway it is doing it now, typical install estimated time..jumped from 2 hours and 5 mins to 28 mins
Will give you an update and some screen shots when it is up and running

I bought the 'family pack'
All running great and Apple Store order yesterday came first thing this morning.

Clean install worked fine. Installed on new USB drive, wonderful, impressed.
Decided to "upgrade" my internal disk (after backing up with Super Duper).
Sitting at a "blue screen". Reading Apple discussion groups. There's going to be a riot somewhere. Would appear to be some install issues to say the least when performing an upgrade.
Trying all options given on the discussion groups to resolve. It's not pretty using single user mode and the command prompt.
Sadly less than impressed with the upgrade install.

Not good reading.

T'was why I bought a Mac so I could be pampered by nice looking GUIs and not type in terminal screens

Hey ho, all fixed now. Will be interesting to see how Apple try and resolve this when the issue is on the DVD !
Cheers
Mark
Not encouraging is it ...
I had a moment of panic when my installer couldnt see the internal HD
It just sat there until I clicked back and forwards a few times, had a drink and then suddenly it popped up
Odd that this was on an iMac 24" with 4GB of memory and tons of hard disk space, yet the install on a PB G4 with just a measely 1GB memory and only 4GB HD left went off without a hitch.
This is the only time in any of the OSX major releases have I done an Upgrade instead of Archive and install...maybe I was feeling flippant

What were the "hacks"? If it's on the apple discussion thread then I'll have a read.
Interesting that there are upgrade from Tiger issues. This was one of the known problems in the last dev seed, so perhaps they did not fix it perfectly. Serves them right for not seeding the GM so devs could suss this out.
Have to admit I'm actually a little shocked as the GM (Client and Server) is now on ADC, guess they released it up there at 6pm as well, I was not expecting that at all, and am downloading client at present.
Not sure if I'm going to go for an upgrade install, or wether to do an archive and install + preserve settings.
Oh, one major word to the wise to any of you. Do NOT run any disk repair tools apart from Disk Utility on Leopard. Both Alsoft and Micromat have said that their apps are not yet compatible with 10.5 and could cause issues if you use the tools to repair the disk.

These are the commands that sorted mine out. There are all sorts of discussions, some say ejecting the DVD works (***** it does), as does just performing an fsck (again not for me).
I deleted the files listed below (as copied from the Apple discussions thread listed above). Once I did this it works like a charm. All settings retained including SSH, VNC server etc.
Not exactly the smooth and sophisticated install I'd expect, especially considering it was the default option (upgrade). My current theory which is yet to be proved is that it was because of remains of either Sim2, or Final Cut HD express that I un-installed prior to upgrade. Other than that I was using a plain vanilla 10.4.10 with little else installed.
Will be interesting to see if any conclusions are drawn as to the cause kinda root cause analysis stuff to see why some upgrades are fine and some fail.
Hope this helps below :-
1. Reboot into single-user mode (hold Cmd-S while booting machine)
2. Follow the directions OSX gives you when you get to the prompt (I think these were them - just type the two commands it tells you to):
fsck -fy /
/sbin/mount -uw /
3. Remove the following files:
rm -rf /Library/PreferencePanes/ApplicationEnhancer.prefpane
rm -rf /Library/Frameworks/ApplicationEnhancer.framework
rm -rf /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/ApplicationEnhancer.bundle
rm -f /Library/Preferences/com.unsanity.ape.plist
4. Exit, to continue booting normally
exit

Chris,
Think you have a point about unsanity. They have some good software, but well, they aren't called haxies for fun
I've checked and I don't have any of their stuff installed, thankfully.
Download of server and client is complete, so all I need to do is put the image onto a partition and decide if I've got the ***** to put it on the iMac (my main machine). It's backed up so I should not lose anything, but I'm loathed to have to restore my entire machine, but if needs must.

I seem to remember a while back that unsanity was the root of all evil on panther ( i think) and especially the App.enhancer. Fruit menu , whilst a useful tool, was just too bug ridden to be chanced and it seems it has struck again.
Amazing from a company that has its developer roots deeply entrenched in the OS..
And as for the install...do it and stop being a big girl
I did a full backup last night using Time Machine. Took 4 hours to do 200GB but once done, boy is the restore function quick
Chose a folder full of high res images, deleted about 100MB of files and then restored it within 45 secs..not bad
Was going to roll this out on all of my machines at work and home. Might wait a while if the above is a sample of what I can look forward to
Will probably wait until January.... too much hassle this side of Chrimbo

Screen sharing works just fine. Very fast too
Apple Mail is now brilliant. The RSS feeds in Mail is a good idea too, I like that.
Safari is much faster.
Time Machine is good too, however you can't boot off the volume you've backed up to if your main drive goes down. (unlike using superduper)
iCal is much better, it really needed a face lift.
Spotlight is faster - nice.
Haven't really used spaces yet.
New screen savers - very nice.
