There wouldn't be such an interest in motorsport if nobody ever crashed, its part of it, there wouldn't be rafts of 'Havoc' videos and the like either. Anybody who goes into motorsport not expecting the odd incident or complains when people want to see the footage is a bit naive, I expect the Evo driver has watched it and is in a bizarre way quite proud of it, seeing as he and the Pug driver are ok.

Not wishing an accident like that on anybody but it is quite spectacle, or do you look the other way ?

Its a personal slant I suppose but I prefer to see people driving on the bitter edge and getting away with it rather than wrapping it up in the armco. I find it upsetting to see a destroyed car. All that effort wasted! Probably because I used to build my own cars I suppose.

What concerns me is the fact that the car in question made up around 200yards on the car infront, in 1 straight!
He didn't need to take a risk with the advantage he had.
Yes, some may say 'it was in the heat of the moment' or 'the red mist got to him' well, if that's the case, he shouldn't be driving such a powerful car.

If he made a genuine mistake by clipping the kerb, so be it. But, he must learn from it, as somebody nearly got killed.

I'm sure someone will now infract me because I havn't been nice or sympathetic.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the black cross on the back of the Evo - indicating that the driver is a novice, and therefore being watched by the eyes of MSA race stewards for driving competency.

I would have to say that on the point of turn-in, he appears to have left no margin for the slower car on the exit of the bend (lack of race experience?), therefore he was always on a collision course with the Pug.

I've never driven on a race track, so don't know how you are supposed to tackle situations of overtaking much slower cars, but for the sake of a light lift on entry and the loss of a couple of tenths, he could have avoided a very big accident. (How many times do we hear of racing drivers complaining of backmarkers being in the way?) However, hindsight is a great thing, and if the pug was a few yards further down the road, one of the other Evos may have done exactly the same thing.....

The trick if you are behind a car which is slower through the bends is to drop back just enough so that when you come out of the bend, you are just behind him but accelerating faster so that you can pass him on the straight.

You will be in a good position to outbrake him into the next bend if you have not passed him completely.

There is no significantly high kerb to clip on that bend, it is no problem to put a wheel on the kerbing on either of the apexes of that bend.

These things happen, there is always someone to blame but in general unless someone deliberatly hits you then its down to a racing incident. Having been there and got the t-shirt I can sympathise with both the drivers - I have been sat in the back of my transporter looking at a mess that was caused by someone else that cost me ££££ to fix - but that is racing and you get on with it, shake hands with them and carry on.

Mr banned here has a point. The 106 was well out of the way, Simon Norris looks to have understeered straight into him under power having clipped too much apex - not clever given the 106 was clearly in view.

Norris' fault, no question. I'm sure the stewards would see it the same way.

here is a link to the full race from start to crash (as recorded in Mr Norris's Evo)

make your own judgment, but i feel Simon was maybe pushing a little too hard, but as said it was a race series and yes accidents happen that's why motor sport is dangerous

When you have different classes on the track at one time, this sort of thing happens at all levels.

Le Mans series, the P1 and P2 prototypes get penalised via drive-throughs and stop goes if they are deemed to have "muscled" past the GT classes.

Happens every time. A couple of LMPs in mid battle come to a corner to find a GT car moving slowly and they end up taking each other out.

Its considered to be up the faster car to overtake in a safe manner. Rather lucky the EVO didn't come to rest on top of the 106.

Glad all are OK and hope the EVO driver takes note of the lesson.

Dont think it had anything to do with the other class of car on the track, he was off the track more than he was on it. Glad he's ok but hopefully he will realise he's not as good he thinks he is. I would stick to the drag strip in future.

i still think its a bit mad to be driving a 700bhp car (a figure ive heard somewhere) when your still considered a novice. That sort of thing is reserved for the playstaion.

Not going to pass "internet judgement", just glad to hear both drivers are ok.
