2 day meeting rules are:
Practice day:

Get signed on in the first 30 (be there VERY early) and you will be able to have 3 runs. You must take the first or second practice batches, but then you can choose any other 2 times though the day or consecutivly.

If prac day goes well, others may get 3 runs too.

Race day is exactly as on the finals. You will have 2 race runs in batch 2. Each batch is about 20 25 cars. Paddock marshalling is strict, so stand by your beds for both days!

We will all be stunned by Rob this year. The V8 Audi will not be sitting down though, and Pete won't be either....

Thank you - a bit more "peace of mind" as I will have enough to deal with!

I'll get to Shelsley for 0730hrs finish off the car prep and be ready to sign on early....................a bit too early on a Sunday.

PS I am in Batch 3 with your class (previous post was put on Scoobynet at the end of an 18 hour day ), and there is a new competitor in our midsts with an Impreza (National B licence holders).

7.30am is a bit late!
The game is to take a chair to the signing-on hut and stake your 'place'.
The chairs are there from about 6.00am.....I kid you not.

Get the car ready and re-claim the seat and stand there with the rest of us!

Never noticed the new guy, so will look again.

Class C1 looks very thin for the Midland/Leaders so join them!

0600hrs - OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does that time exist on a Sunday

Looks like 2 practice runs for me then (gearbox is still holding up, so less stress will do it and me some good).

What do I need to be in Class C1 (apart from bigger b*lls )?

I normally fall out of the "pit" at 1300hrs for Sunday lunch

Damnation - some Muppet at the office has put me into visit one of our software users in Leicester on the Friday and I planned a day off to tweek the car Oh well, I will be busy on Saturday.

Graham - you travelling down early on Sunday?

Shelsley is 60 miles from home so a good hours run (taking it steady).

It would be good if the practice batches were confirmed with the final regs?

PS Looking forward to seeing you and the usual suspects on the 5th May

Yes, i'll be cruising down in the 911 from about 6.15. Be there about 7.00am.

Won't bother with the seat malarky this year.

On practice day after scrutes you go to the hut again and simply choose the batch you want, say #4.
You can go back later if you wish andpick the second for the afternoon, say 14 or 16.
Sometimes if you are smooth enough you can get the second one changed!

I love the morning run to Shelsley, it was fab in the Impreza, but the 911 on open pipes is sublime. I only j u s t pass the noise test @ 108dB.

LOL! The 'new' subaru guy will be Geoff. A great bloke, been in Imprezas hillclimbing for a few years.
He has a great new RA for 2008 which is superb, wanted to buy it myself, but he was quicker and richer than me.
(he will murder me for saying that!)

2.1, 20g, Forrest map, PPG and twin plate clutch, Whiteline/AST and Kumho's (for now) and he uses a trailer.

Very pleasent character, and very good to socialise with.
(Trouble with him is he is a bit quick too...... )

Did Geoff run a dark blue WRX Classic in the past?

There is another Impreza in my class driven by Richard Colwill from High Wycombe. I have not seen him on any entries before and wonder what speci his car is?

Also a Honda S2000 - should be good (owned one of these back in 2001 - VTEC )

Good to see members of HDLCC on the list for 5th/6th May.

Regards to the Family

The s2000 will struggle at shelsley, the gradient is very steep and lack of torque will show in trap speeds and times, great car though.

Do not know Richard Colwell. Agree with Rob about helsley. The 911 just sits at 3500 rpm in 4th right up the hill, zero accelleration, and that's with 3200cc!

Mind you, there are 3 Impreza's in the HSA Championship, and one is you Richard, so who are the others?

The Dark Blue Impreza is Geoff. He now has the truely fab Kenny S 2.1.

Graham

The only other Impreza/Driver combo I am aware of is the STi of Andrew Meek (Gareth Ellis is running (very successfully) a WRX RA - he joined HDLCC late on 2007).

So there are 2 x Imprezas I have yet to see in action.

Hope it is not that way this weekend.

But we have grooves in our tyres!

Is that one of the 'missing' Impreza competitors?

Question Gurston Down Times

I have done a bit od detective work, and had a look at the Gurston entry list for 19th and 20th April - and the driver was/is Richard Colwill from High Wycombe, so a green Impreza will be gracing the White Goods Class

Richard Colwill managed 42.23 on his first timed run and 42.40 on his second run.

He ended up 2nd in Class to Neil Duncanson's Audi Quattro.

Graham - is that "good" result for a road going Impreza on 1As at Gurston (bearing in mind he/I are National B license holders)?

The HSA website confirms Richard's car is in Class C3 "modified production cars over 2000cc".

I will have a good nose at his car on the morning of the 4th to see what specification it is

Never run Gurston, but Geoff Twemlow (Blue WRX) has but I've no measure of it.
Learning tracks is key to performance, 'practice makes perfect' comes to mind.

This is shown very well with Rob and his car, the two gelling well as his knowledge of the tracks increases. That was well shown last year, and this year will show another leap. (imho)

Soon though that factor eases away, and other things come into play.
You need to be quick mind 'cause age creeps in and young blood enters quickly!
It is interesting to see how the National Championships work out, youth and hot cars and now experience in the same cars.

Will be interesting to watch from the 'edge'.

That'd be me. My first outing in a speed event so was pretty chuffed with a second in class. However I am under no illusions that I will be mullered by the big boys on a dry track.

The car was prepped for track days, thus falling into the modified class due to the amount stripped out rather than power mods or tyres. It's a UK wagon with a modicum of mods to run around 300ish bhp. In true competition driver style I am getting my excuses in early and calling it a development year. Unfortunately I haven't been able to source anything stickier than 1A's for Shelsley either.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Thumbs up Graham Hill Trophy Sprint @ Curborough Sunday 8th June

Fantastic day of sprinting at Curborough - only downside is that I have a very sunburnt head today!

Spent alot of time with Blademaster (John) - a pleasure to have met you John and your Family and thank you for all your advice and help (especially with the read out on the APEXI FC).

Blademaster's Impreza (very quick and took the class win by nearly 2 seconds):

97 mph was the quickest speed over the line - which I was chuffed with.

More to come from the car after FMIC and re-map.

I have posted a few pictures in the Member's Gallery - hope you enjoy?

Achieved 3rd in class (class only had 3 cars though ) pipped to 3rd by a Nissan GTiR by 1 x 100th of a second - now that's what I call close racing. More points for the HSA/Richard Eggar Championship which is good.

Richard

Hi Richard,

It was the warmest day for a while. My car was struggling to make the power in the afternoon but the EXE TC suspension more than made up for it on such a small twisty track.

I read the threads from Rob and one or two others (respect guys) and often feel the Scooby world probably doesn’t see how many more Impreza’s are involved in the sport, particularly on the sprint circuits around the midlands.

The production class is very competitive these days, I see the Peugeot 205 boys have a strong following with all sorts of throttle body conversions and lightweight panels. Last season I did count 12 in one class!

In the over 2ltr and the 4wd class we get Evo’s Nissan Pulsars and plenty of Scooby’s. Most run modified cars but keep the full interior, list 1A tyres and road taxed cars. Its fiercely competitive at most events and I hope more Scooby’s come and join in. (I hate loosing to EVO’s) I don’t do so many hill climbs but I guess that’s the next progression….it wont be in C class. I will leave that to the fire breathing super cars with the mega costs that go with it!

I have had 5 wins from 5 events this year in the Bugeye. I normally expect to win one or two a year. I guess the API/Bob Rawle ECU helps along with some decent brakes and all the whiteline exe-tc stuff.

I drive to many more events, with the RA I ran last year, it had to be tailored due to reliability (Lunched 3 gearboxes in a season) and the suspension was so low and hard it struggled getting out of the farm drive.

Hope to see you more often Richard, keep posing pictures on this thread.

PS. Get yourself some slicks…just in case you get merged with C class one day. It happened to me last year at MIRA. 3 Harriman’s on slicks against me on T1R’s is demoralising! But the more who enter the lesser the chance this will happen.

Anyway, back to read how Rob (Hi Rob, beer overdue mate) is going on the other page.

John.

Thumbs up Curborough

We had five runs on Sunday, (3 for practice and 2 for competition) and each run was quicker than the previous, and the last run of the day was my personal best with a 36.76 lap (that is from memory - I will have to check my times later).

Managed a 2.05 second 64 feet launch - which was fun, the grip and grunt off the line was amazing - 6,250 rpm lift the clutch as quickly as possible, 1st gear, grab 2nd gear and hold on. The speed the car reaches the redline is phenominal.

Only three cars in class (Class 1D Four Wheel Drive) and I was pipped by 1 x 100th of a second into 3rd (or you could say last) place!

As John (Blademaster) said, it was so hot - wonderful experience to be dressed in a 3 layer race suit and full face helmet sat in a car without air-con

A few very sideways moments approaching the first left handed bend, but with the DCCD set to first orange display this helped me (amateur driver) keep it all together - the RAs are such fun when you are on/near/over the limit, just kept my foot in and pushed as a far as suspension/tyres/talent would go - glad I did not disgrace myself or the Impreza reputation.

A good tally of points for me to put on the scoreboard for the HSA/Eggar Championship.

Be good to see a few more Imprezas at these events.

Class winner (John) was 1.5 seconds in front and I could not catch him on the day (that lad can drive ) – will get him next time

Had some good class results this year, so far: 1st Loton (April), 2nd Shelsley (May), 2nd Loton (May) and 3rd out of 3 Curb last weekend.

Next outing (if my entry is accepted) is Shelsley July 5th

I had a chat with David at API yesterday and we have come up with some new bits and pieces to be added later this year:

1. Upgrade the existing APEXI FC to Simtek as an ecu system as the TD05/20G can suffer surge problems on a MAF and a FMIC. The Simtek does away with the MAF and thus the surge. I can also have launch control for a small amount extra (£s).

Next BIG items is the suspension which if finances and wife permit will be:

Budget coilover is Eibach Pro Street S + weigh and track.

Great day on Sunday - good to meet John - knows his stuff

Richard

Well done John car looks good, very differernt since I last saw it, don't bother reading my thread I made another hash of it the weekend cant seem to get up to speed getting used to all the new bits especially the gear box, but the car has mega potential when I get my act together you will have to come over and have a look/beer.

Rich suspension is the way forward, a good handling package will make you faster on the hills than another 50 or even 100bhp.

Strange class 1D I was told they made the 4wd class becasue of porsche/tvr etc. drivers complaining about competing against scoobs/evos.

I'm out at Curborough this sunday for the first time in ages and quite looking forward to it.

I think you may be right Rob, car pulls like a train is competitive speed wise, no complaints with low down torque and grunt.

I have the Whiteline anti roll bars and Powerstation track set up, but the car is still fitted with the original struts - which are now 13 years old and probably past their best.

I will check out the TEIN kits.

Curborough was great - first time I have seen a 4 wheel drive class.

Event was run by the Owen Motor Club - very very friendly bunch of people and the day was very relaxed.

Have a good one - see you somewhere on the hills later next month.

Right really am thinking about entering an event or 2 next year. so thought i'd ask the seasoned pros a question or 2. what class would my impreza be in?

type ra
still with 2.0 and standard td05,
induction kit with cold air feed,
sti v5 intercooler,
4 pot race calipers with 330mm discs,
full 3" decat system,
cusco coilovers,
whiteline front & rear arb,
whiteline drop links,
front and rear strut brace,
front h brace,
rear diff brace,
walbro fp,
fuel lab fpr,
stripped out,
lots of stickers - i know they add about 10000bhp

if it'd be in any form of modified class i guess there's not a huge amount of point entering unless i get the power up. was just wondering if i could get away with it in a production road going class?

As soon as you strip the interior you'll be in modified production class.

I've just finished my track car for Harewood, a 205 GTI,(loads cheaper to mod than the scoob), I will be in mod prod as its completely stripped, 1 seat , polycarb windows. The problem will be the lack of engine mods, won't be competative until I put a GTi 6 motor in.

Too late, its in the skip, plus it wouldn't fit now as its fully caged.
Only going to be entering a couple of events this season, then its engine time, anyone got a Pug V6 motor.

Matt - if you want any help/pointers drop a pm and I can email you.

I went to my first hill climb as a spectator at Prescott 39 years ago, and been hooked ever since.

Marshalled for 15 years, then started competing in 2003.

The guys who compete in sprints/hill climbs and are on Scoobynet are very helpful and I have learned so much just by asking......................we all had to start somewhere.

Cheers Richard.

I think really i'd be best to get the handling on the car sorted out as i've already got all the parts fitted to the car. so just needs setting up.

Then as i get used to the power, i guess start upping it. new ecu would be the first stage. Then forging the engine and improving the drive train.

I think it'll be an idea for me to go to a few events this year to get an idea of the standards etc.

Hi Richard,

Game on for Shelsley Walsh 5th July. Just had the confirmation.

Class A3

23 Me STI
