Best thing to do is join your local car club. Where are you from?

I agree join a local club and go and watch a couple of events first, while your there speak to a few people about how they started. And if you can speak to people who will be in your class about what you can do to your car and the things you need.A few things are National B non race license about £36 club membership £30ish Helmet anything from £80 up to hundreds and some race overalls yet again depends £80 up.Hope this helps

There are a few people on here who have been competing in sprints and hillclimbs - and are very happy to share their experiences with you.

Via Scoobynet, I started competing in 2003.

This site has been useful:

HSA - for information on hillclimbs and sprints in the UK

If you check this site out, you can see the types of vehicles and tracks we use:

Above all, just ask if you have any questions

If you are in the south half of England, you can always try out the Japanese Intermarque Sprint Championship. Quite a few competitors over on bigpower (www.bigpower.co.uk), "Time Attack/Sprints" forum, if you want to know more.

What is the minimum standard for a race suit, suitable for hillclimbs/sprints.
It's confusing, do I need flameproof or flame retardant?

The minimum requirement is outlined in section Q9 of the MSA blue book... which I don't have to hand because I'm still at work!!!

The requirements are less stringent for rallies / sprints / hillclimbs compared to racing - you don't need FIA approved overalls. The cheapest you can get away with are single layer probans, which you can pick up for around £60. Most people prefer better protection though, a good set of 2 layer nomex overalls will cost around £200.

If you want to go racing at some point in the future you will need FIA approved overalls, so you may as well suit up with 3 layer nomex now because you're gonna have to buy them when you go racing!

There are cheaper but examples from Demon Tweeks, suitable for rally/sprint/hillclimb:
Non FIA Race Suits | Racewear | Clothing & Helmets | Motorsport | Demon Tweeks Motorsport, Motorcycle, Modifying, Parts and Accessories

Suitable for race:
FIA Race Suits | Racewear | Clothing & Helmets | Motorsport | Demon Tweeks Motorsport, Motorcycle, Modifying, Parts and Accessories

Thanks for the info, looks like a 2 layer nomex will be the best for what I need.
I don't intend to compete in racing, just hillclimbs/sprints and trackdays, but you never know

Question Question for Graham/Rob - overbored forged pistons

A fellow Type RA owner has omega forged pistons fitted (overbored so is more than 2000cc) can this still be legally entered in production road class over 2000 cc (car is fully trimmed) and road taxed/MOT etc?

Good question, but I think the answer is no because it is the prod class. In Mod Prod the capacity is simply over 2 liters.
Committee meeting tonight so I'll ask around the experts on the regs.

Thank you Graham - I had a look at the Blue Book last night, but cannot fathom it out!

Kind regards,

Richard

Asked Jim Gazey last night.

If the car has been rebored to refresh the engine (ie 60 thou rebore, fresh pistons/rings) then all is OK.
If it is a stroker, then it is not OK.

Indeed a great vid, fast too considering they are on 1A's.
Are you doing the April B meeting?

Yes* - car 37 for Sunday 6th (Paddock Marshall on Saturday 5th).

* Subject to fitting/sorting actuator issues (the short metal bar from the actuator to the wastegate has come off - tiny tiny tiny little "c" clip has broken).

Good class on Sunday with Andrew and Gareth both in their trusty STis.

Easy fix - finishing car prep this weekend.

PS Do you know who John Sissons is (running and Evo 4 on the Saturday?).

Regards to the Family,

Richard

Best of luck at the weekend Rich make sure we get pics and a report, I'd come over and watch but I'm supporting Pete at his first time attack.

Don't know the EVO 4 car at all. There was to be one at the Practice Weekend, but cancelled.
I was impressed how well Gareth went last weekend, just not sure about his tyres.
I had the same failure on my 20g, the very day AndyF arrived to map the car! Found a clip and it was done in 15 mins.

Rob:
Beware! You might like TA better. (much better value)

Rob

Thanks - been 6 months since the car was driven in "anger"

Please give Pete my best wishes for his TA entry (been very interesting read in what he has been doing with the Evo - great stuff on your STi as well).

Will be good to catch up with your Dad on Sunday- shame only he and John (Phoenix/RS Cosworth) in roadgoing modified on the Sunday.

Will be worth the early start just to listen to the Quattro

Rich

Clip fix - will be useful if it fails again.

Gareth is very fired up for 2008 (good lad).

PS hope is it drier than today - pouring down

Thumbs up Imrezas (all white classics strangely) rule at Loton Park!

Fantastic weekend of hillclimbing at Loton Park - even if very very cold on Saturday - covered in snow on Sunday!

Saturday
Impreza RA - Gareth 2nd in class (a driving god!)
Impreza STi - Andrew 1st in class

Sunday
Impreza STi RA - Me 1st in class (chased very very closely by Gareth and Andrew - less than a second between us)
Impreza RA - Gareth 2nd in class (definately a force to be recond with in 2008
Impreza STi - Andrew 3rd in class

A truly great weekend for the Imprezas

Can't wait for the next one

Good going!
It is a real buzz when you are so so close in times rather than 4 seconds adrift of the next guy.
It was like that several years ago....when C1 was a road going class on 1B's.

Question Shelsley Walsh 4th and 5th May

Has anyone entered for the first hillclimb event for 2008 at Shelsley Walsh, and if so, have you received the final regs?

Question Question for 911 and/or Rob

I have received the final regs for Shesley 4th/5th May, which confirm I am in batch 2 for the Monday.

Question is, as I have not competed at a A/B weekend at Shelsley, do you choose your own batch numbers for the practice day (Sunday)?

The last event I did was a single "B" day back in May 2007, and then the batches one chose were those for the whole day.

I don't want to be in the wrong place at the wrong time

Looking forward to seeing Rob's car in the flesh

Thanks.

RICHARD
