Thanks, its starting to get a bit technical for me. The reason I'm asking is that after over a decade I've bought a decent Hi Fi and so want to put the best source I can through it and start building up my music collection again. So I want to know whether this should be CDs or some other kind of format.
nb please note my understanding of these things is limited so keep it simple!

Alas my mere Before and after school Greengrocer job never afforded me the luxury.
I did however get a Goldring Deck, which i paired with a Audio Technica Stylus and a Pioneer SA940 Amp with Acoustic Research LS18's providing the noise!!!!
Oh the days of using the antistatic disc preener and reading the sleevenotes while listening brings back great memories.
One track which springs to mind is Marillion - Chelsea Monday, enless guitar solo which seemed to weave all over the room and make your hair on your neck standup....!!!!
Then i found CD's and it all went downhill.

Though I'm not doubting the appeal of vinyl(it is special) you can't be telling me the sound quality is superior to CD

But unless you already have a substantial vinyl collection then there is no reason to go back to vinyl but it does beat CD.
You don't get any surface noise on a decent turntable, just inky blackness.
The whole idea that digital must be better than analogue is bull. Certainly not in this case.
All the £10k+ top end CD players are after the same thing. To sound as good as vinyl.
Some people would disagree but not me in this case. If something has been recorded or mastered digitally then you must surely loose something going back to analogue. This is what stopped me buying vinyl. That and the poor thin pressings.
