Funnily enough it overheated and blew up resulting in him having to replace much of it, wonder why it did that

nb please note my understanding of these things is limited so keep it simple!
The best source is probably still a top quality turntable and vynal. I sold mine years ago in favour of CD's but wish i hadn't now.

Remember to chill the CD's in the freezer before playing, makes all the difference

Geoff.
Takes me back to right back to wanting a Linn Sondek LP12 and Naim power / pre amp combo.

Alas my mere Before and after school Greengrocer job never afforded me the luxury.

I did however get a Goldring Deck, which i paired with a Audio Technica Stylus and a Pioneer SA940 Amp with Acoustic Research LS18's providing the noise!!!!

Oh the days of using the antistatic disc preener and reading the sleevenotes while listening brings back great memories.
One track which springs to mind is Marillion - Chelsea Monday, enless guitar solo which seemed to weave all over the room and make your hair on your neck standup....!!!!

Then i found CD's and it all went downhill.

No.
A quality turntable still beats any CD player.

They look fabulous too.

Though I'm not doubting the appeal of vinyl(it is special) you can't be telling me the sound quality is superior to CD

A Vinyl will only beat a CD if it has been a full Analog recording and mastering as soon as it goes digital the full waveform has been lost, vinyl will only smooth the digital back out a bit, but then the Riaa Eq can do some nice things to the sound.

It is. A CD only samples a portion of the original sound wave and guesses the rest. Decent vinyl records the whole lot. Something like that anyway. But the difference is very audible.
But unless you already have a substantial vinyl collection then there is no reason to go back to vinyl but it does beat CD.
You don't get any surface noise on a decent turntable, just inky blackness.
The whole idea that digital must be better than analogue is bull. Certainly not in this case.
All the £10k+ top end CD players are after the same thing. To sound as good as vinyl.

Some people would disagree but not me in this case. If something has been recorded or mastered digitally then you must surely loose something going back to analogue. This is what stopped me buying vinyl. That and the poor thin pressings.

If fully recorded/mastered in digital then a Vinal will not sound any better just different, but when you compress with MP3 etc much past 512 is easy to hear on most hifi's (in car is different) so depending on use they have there own plus points
