being i'm a f3 tech i'm a firm believer in the old mantra "if the wings don't swing, it don't mean a thing". However China Lake is the live firing evaluation and tactics centre among other things. The OEU (operations evaluation unit) very nearly live there during the summer months (lucky bar stewards). Can't go into specifics, however a fair few people got a shock at the combo of amraam/ asraam and Buphoon including the much vaunted, Raptor sqn in residence at the time.

Mind you the Mig29's during Excercise dragons nest weren't to happy at the F3 AS or AM RAAM comination. Come on the flying flick knife

cool, so we have some good stuff then. Lets just hope they purchase enough planes, train enough pilots, buy enough weapons to hang off them, and also have enough maintenance to keep them in the air

I know I will have forgotten some get out clause there for our government

The story you're referring to.. 6 of one half a dozen of the other, add some spice and a bit embellishment relish, shake it up a bit and urban legend pie is made.

If it had actually happened, it'd be reported all over the place.. which it isn't, and don't say "secret"... as it seems that everybody with an interest appears to have "heard" about it especially the ***** waving "my jet is better than your jet" crowd on youtube.

What is fact is that a Typhoon easily took down 2 x F15E's that were equipped with AESA radars, as well as AMRAAM. These aircraft because of the F15's awesome reputation along with these state of the art avionics/radar packages had been touted by some as being the equal of if not better than Typhoon... now they're not so sure

Agreed however that the F3 has surprised a few "superior" aircraft in it's time, and no doubt the Typhoon will do the same over it's lifetime.

BTW, I was a techie on the F3 OEU (latterly becoming FJWOEU and now 41 SQN after merging with the SA OEU) for almost 10 years, and yep there's some nice trips to be had

But wasn't the f15 game of bounce brushed under the carpet to save america any blushes?

Bet the pilots got a surprise, it was the two seater trainer as well.

Im not into the whole my jet is better than yours, i posted up a link to the f22 in a sukhoi su37 video and got a right slating for it.

Despite these new jets, the old F15 is pretty resilient!

The story I got was from a couple of your lads after a few beers at the Aki 10's. Obviously not going to mention names on here (bead window bead window). If your still on 41 say hi the a certain sootie who spent time on the tremblers in the early 2000's before returning to the FJOEU and a short rugby playing armourer with a rather unhealthy fetish for male grooming products. Oh can you take back a fairy with the worlds biggest chip on his shoulder, for a Cpl, i see his Wing Co being to far off.

I'll stand corrected if I see some evidence of it, but "war stories" are usually just "war stories" and they don't come much worse or corny than ones about conquering the American Midwest and beyond.

Not there any longer, have been demobbed, but I have a feeling I know the plumber you're talking about.. the description fits lol.. just trying to think of his firkin name, the mind has gone blank (and it's gonna bug me forever now.. pm me a clue lol), if it's the same guy he'll have been there for about 7 years now I guess. Oh and if it is the same guy and you see him tell him I want my bloody bronze statue, it was still in the armourers role locker when I left

Not sure which sooty you mean, and as for fairies.. they've all got a bloody chip on their shoulder so it could be anyone!!
