Hi, I dont know if its related, but every page I look at on scoobynet, when I press the back button, I have to press it twice. The first press the bottom of the window looks like this.....
Shot at 2007-08-21
but the page doesnt go anywhere, I have to quickly press Back again to actually go back a page.
Only occurs on Scoobynet for me and I have just done a virus scan and adware removal on my computer.

I wonder if some people having problems are using the latest version of Norton? I was having some horrendous problems when viewing SN, but not other sites, with "Cannot Display Webpage" message coming up all the time. This was resolved usually (but not always) by hitting Refresh. One problem being that the latest Symantec version does not include a "Disable" option on the icon so you have to go into the depths of the product and find the right on/off options. But this seems a bit much just to do this for SN as it's fine on other sites.

Guys
Can we be sure we know what a pop-up is?
I think I may have dissabled a third of our revenue in order to stop pop ups which were never there.
A "pop-up" is when a website spawns an entirely new windows explorer (or firefox, or whatever) window, with an entirely seperate webpage in it.
I was confused how a pop up can be "in the top right corner", as it isn't actually in a corner.. its on a completely new page.
Please can everyone confirm what they mean by pop-up?

Not strictly a pop-up? It's just not a pop-up!
Its a banner.
We can sort out the quality of the banners pretty easily. But we've just blown away a massive chunk of revenue that the site needs because people have been telling us there are pop ups all over the site.
Pop ups are a horrible, horrible, way to advertise, and we opose them totally.
But these banners, if they're just a bit annoying, its very easy to just ignore them. I don't think they do you any harm.
Either way, we can sort them out later. The pop up issue was far more serious, or so I thought!

Well I am pretty certain that the one I had was a pop-up and not a banner. I clicked on it deliberately to get the site address (thus freezing my PC) and others have posted the links. Isn't that enough to determine what they are?

That's not a pop-up. That's a banner advert. A pop-up is when an entirely new window opens up with a different webpage in it.

Everyone else. Thank you. I should be able to track that down now. brb

Well that's put me in my place
Do you mean a full size page then?
So if it is a banner ad should I be able to close it my clicking the close button? What I thought were banners rather then pop-up don't have a click to close button (top right of banner) which adds to my confusion.
david
PS - I wasn't the only one who reported this "banner" as a pop-up so don't just blame me

LOL I'm not blaming you for anything mate!
A banner advert is a fixed size image. This image can be animated. You could draw a picture of a lion on it, adn get the lion to yawm, or you could draw a picture of a car, and get the wheels to move, or you could draw a picture of a windows message box and animate it so it looks like it jumps around. This is just an image. If you click the image, you'll be clicking the banner advert.
A pop up, is something that it totally detached from the page, in its own internet explorer window.
