yeah, a boat was needed a few weeks back, now its all cool LOL !!
not any real formal training, the NVQ was just what i needed to get the paperwork, knew all the course already so was pretty easy, just all hands on work/breaking things myself then learning by that ha ha ha !!
its the tools that make the jobs, sounds daft but with little tools, an easy job can take hrs and hrs !
p/s, i now fix computers, alot warmer in the winter and sometimes, easier to fix ! and my nails look alot better for it ha !

tartno engine bay piccies as yet. looks filthy. wanna detail it, but no idea how. well without taking everything apart anyways...
OK, so what is the cost of the parts to strip an Impreza Engine and rebuild with new bearings?
A simple refurbishment ....
I would be seriously disappointed if I had to pay more than £500!!!
The hardest bit is taking everything off to get the lump out - the actual lump is childs play ...... it's just an engine - you know, like the BILLIONS which have gone before.

still respect engines are easy but things can go badly wrong leave it to the people who know what there doing. but you can learn by your mistakes and i used to take cars apart at 13 so anyone that tackles an engine on their own gets my respect, andy is totally dependent on his scoob one car family.

pslweis, get with the times, that part of the thread is over now. hopefully weve concluded the engine isnt going to go pop (me panicking as usual
), and its something less sinister.keep up with the progress dear boy.

unfortunatley no cure today. mickyjeffs just text me. hes stuck in some real nasty traffic oop north, and has hardly moved in 1.5 hours on the m'way, so hes decided to turn back.
hopefully he may be able to come down wednesday afternoon (good job i work nights at least) and have a look then. at least yesterday with chris, hes put my mind at ease, otherwise id be dribbling to work tonight in second gear
catch you soon mick, no worries

just been on the phone to jase again, and he was pretty straight forward with his advice.
basically to sort the tappets out, id have to get the engine dropped out and stripped. for the sake of this, gaskets, piston rings etc, would be changed too. in a sense a bottom end rebuild i think. so for the sake of all the hassle, it seems better to just put up with the noise, until say the tappets/hydraulic lifters do damage to the valves, and then just fork out for the whole lot to be sorted.
for the sake of changing just the tappets, it isnt worth the labour casts and hassle.
think i put that right. spoke to mick and andy (alloy) about this too, and they both agreed pretty much.
suppose if i do this, it gives me time to prepare for the costs, and also i would have the option of getting stronger internals. mick said to me, it could last another 30,000 odd miles before its a problem or it could last 5,000 miles.
il play the waiting game and just buy a louder exhaust i think
for now il get my knackered lambda sensor sorted out and keep tabs on the car.

i want louder you see, sod the neighbours, but the scoobybits system is bloody good quality actually, just quieter. jap angled exit slash cut. view my scooby. looks nice polished up.
if your interested in a swap of some sort

just looked at view your scooby. have you a 2.5" centre or a 3" centre. does the blitz taper down on the backbox or 3£ straight through?
