either i'm being extremely dense or i'm being extremely dense, but on neither website mentioned on the first page of this thread can I find anywhere, the product relating to a newage 2001 WRX.

Is it a case of call for details or have the sites just not been updated yet??

I'm looking to have my car remapped and it's a minefield, just wanted some details on my options.

Thanks in advance

Default Simtek

Its probably not on any websites ,due to the newage being a recent addition to the range.
But there is a full dealer network so I would contact Steve Simpson who Can Then put you in touch with your local dealer all of which have undergone The full Simpson test to gain the dealership hence theres a few noses out of place
With regards to the datalogic software I suppose its what you are use to but as far as starting from scratch with a new product then yes I would say it is

A few noses out of place because they don't pass the "steve simpson test"???

Anyone genuinely considering this ECU would do well to have a good read of this thread first:

https://www.scoobynet.com/archive/in.../t-549562.html

Be aware of who is advising you to buy this ECU & exactly why they are doing so.

Cheers!

The point to remember is that there is not really a quality, budget price level, ECu upgrade for the 92-96 Impreza since A'pexi withdrew their version in January this year. The Simtek fits that gap perfectly.

AND for the 99/00 cars is a perfect solution to the great uncertainty that most owners have, about whether their maf is going to give up and cause mayhem on a big scale.

I have seen and read ' that thread ' previously and nothing l heard at the time, or read, got in the way of the fact that, in my opinion, the Simtek is a good bit of kit.

Given a proper trial it deserves its place in the list of stuff that can actually make a difference to an Impreza for reasonable cost.

I have been using this ecu mapped Steve for a few weeks now and have had no issues or problems, the car is running sweet. The above thread just turned into a childish name calling mess and never really answered the posters question.

At the end of the day they are both very good ecu's (I had an Apexi mapped by AF before the Simtek) Lets be honest can the average man in the street who only uses the car for the road really tell the difference between them ??

I picked the Simtek because it seemed a very good system at a good price that had a few extra things the apexi did not have. I looked at the hydra ecu but could not afford to spend the extra cash and having had an Apexi I fancied trying something else.

I'm a satisfied SIMtek customer

I had already in my posession an Apexi - the simtek was suggested and explained to me...... I fancied it.... so sold the apexi ...... (I don't know if the Apexi would have been any different / or another ECU for that matter - as i've never had one )

4 months on....... I'm still a happy chappy

I'm an 'end user'. I understand 'some of what goes on in there' but I'm NO expert....

As a driver/end user.......I don't really care what it's name is.... what colour it is......It starts.....It works...... it goes well......... it can be remapped to changes I have done - I'm Happy

I think it's " it does what it says on the tin " ?? No ?

(not to say another ECU couldn't)

To be HONEST..... I don't know.......

I'm not enough of an expert to understand the differences...

I can only really comment on my own setup/situation........

the Ecu was suggested to me as an alternative to the Apexi that I had already bought.....

I considered both sides of the coin..... and decided Simtek.........

For the money............ it's not too far away (on my scale) from the Apexi.. 'fitted & mapped'

" GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY "

As I said above.......... it works for me..... it does what it said it would do....

I've got nothing bad to say about about it.......... neither can i compare it to another ECU............

OK......... it would have been nice if it was £250 fitted and mapped........

You can't be looking very hard for the Apexi Power FC's David. I have plenty of them and no problems getting more.
There are however more people going for the cost effective option of the ESL live mapping of the OE ECU which is also a good option on 92-96

Really ?? I bought a load as they were running out and my Japanese guys tell me that the factory stopped making them in January. So l guess it must be old stock that you are finding.

A launch control option has been added since I posted before. Quite simple to install and loads of fun for all the family

Phil, This is the rudimentary information that I have so far. Direct from Simtek;

Launch [ once the upgraded software is installed ] can be activated either by a switch or by using the "neutral switch" in the gearbox.

Function is:

1.Switch on or put into 1st gear
2.Floor throttle - revs hold at whatever level you have set using fuel cut and ign retard.
3.Release clutch and launch de-activates at predefined speed.

Testing has achieved 1 bar of boost off the line! held at 4750RPM...

wouldn't this be GREAT if it could be done via remote Desktop (via t'internet)

That would be SO COOL

is it possible with the assumption that the customer has their own software ? and a BroadBand enabled Computer connected

I'd expect shift light on between "drop the clutch and Vroom " you won't have much time at all. On my Tek3 Mega-rom map, I don't have the time to do anything until we are well into 3rd gear, it is that good. But that launches at 6250.

It comes with the anti lag option at around £200.00 if I recall . Although A/L is not for all engines, as it can dislodge exhaust cam shims with all the backfiring and l'd be very reluctant to install A/L on just any engine. Certainly not without a written waiver of "acceptance of consequences...."

David

PS
If you launch on a dry road on a TY752 gearbox expect to see your 1st gear in the rear view mirror as you try to find any gear to keep it moving........
