There seem to be an awful lot of people ready to criticise/belittle the P1 - heavier/more drag/too expensive etc etc. I can only assume this is some warped form of jealousy as there really is little point in debating the merits of this car. If Prodrive themselves acknowledge it to be one of the best and fastest all round versions for UK conditions then I am happy to agree and from experience most certainly do. The endless comparisons between imports/ modded versions grow tiresome and should be forever banished to muppet forum from now on.

Bring on the P2....

I agree
I am a P1 owner & more than happy with mine !
I am also happy to admire other cars whether they are imported or not
each car has its merits & its downfalls
not sure if the perfect car exists ! but surely thats the common aim we all share !
Enough preaching from me let just enjoy whichever car we drive

I would put a uk 22B against a P1 any day.

This was not an anti P1 post, but to make a claim such as the fastest impreza, is fairly bold. plus it was lifted from the P1 self apreciation website.

I jsut dont know where it comes from is all. There are plenty jap variants with the same if not less weight (although weight doesnt affect top speed) and 276bhp. Why should the P1 therefore be the fastest of all imprezas?

and to suggest I am jealous....... I dont think so.

No 396 or 369 here (Canny rem which..lol)

Adam M, 22b isnt a UK car, import only bud. Besides i have always wondered IF a P1 would beat a 22b on UK ROADS. I suspect it would handle better and in a very good drivers hands the cars would perform the same. When was the last time you let an Evo driver tell you his 0.1 secs faster to 60 mattered?

P1 enthusiast.
If you note, I said UK 22B. They are a UK car, I know the owners of about 4 of them dont I chuck? darren? anthony and geoff?

It was pointed out that we are talking top speed not acceleration, in which case I still believe the top end to be quicker on the 22B. If acceleration is the key then I think the gap is more than 0.1 of a second. To understand this consider the 22B is lighter, has a rear biased torque split diff which is more useful when weight is transferred back, and more importantly compare the torque curves of the 2.2 litre to the 2 litre.

You have also missed the point about the P1. It is designed to be the quickest in the "wrong" hands over unknown roads. In the right hands, the handling and extra grip of a 22B could be exploited to yield its advantage.

Adam,

Ah well that's all alright then... what you actually meant was that one of 16 22b Uk cars in a professional driver's hands on smooth, even roads could drive more quickly than the average punter in a P1. How foolish we have all been to think differently.

Having driven std2k, stiv6, 22b and P1, I made the choice to go for the P1 as it genuinely feels FAST -defined as a combination of a balanced setup (meaning a combination of torque, acceleration suspension, gearing, engine mods and many other factors), confidence inspiring in dodgy conditions (the 22b is not) and safe, grin inducing fun without silly japanese stickers everywhere. Heareth end the P1 lesson....

Adam

Delighted you like me website

In standard form the P1 is regarded as the fastest Impreza, sorry mate. I've got a shelf full of artciles & press information that confirms it. There are about 990 people driving blue cars who will also agree.

The P1 is more aerodynamic that a standard Impreza, due to the rear wing among other things. It uses 3bhp less at 100Mph than a standard mota.

Hope you bookmarked the site

Ciao for now.

I think the fact is that there are 990 people who truly love their cars - and I challenge any P1 owner to demerit the car (not specific though - brakes are indeed lousy etc!). But seriously, there are nearly a thousand very happy Scooby owners out there sharing one common P1 factor, so isn't it time we stopped slagging limited models off and started appreciating a wide shared passion, which I thought this forum facility was all about? I thank you....

sorry guys, obviously I have struck a nerve.

I did like the site, ut the P1 fanaticism seems to me as elitism which just devides all of us unnecessarily. There seems to be a new verses old split as it is, but to separate the P1 out justadds further rifts.

I dont like the holier than thou image that p1 owners seem to exhibit.

Dont get me wrong. It isnt all. I have seen many P1 owners not talking like this, eg Bob Iles, Hippy to name a few.

I simply feel alienated by the some of the comments.

I also do not believe a word I read in the motoring press, so would hardly see it as proof.

Adam, owner of a dissapointing impreza with far worse aerodynamics than your average P1

Exclude me from your list of elitist P1 owners
as anyone who has met met will testify !
I was an turbo owner til just before Xmas & still reckon they are one wicked car & return much higher MPG than my P1 does !

Since there are 990 of you, it would be wrong for me to label you all, that would make me a biggot, I am just saying that I have seen it in some people and it isnt nice.

PS. I drive a 22B

I drove the evo 7 and loved it. But I dont love any car more than my own.

I would consider an affair with a 355, but I would have to have my cake and eat it. 22B stays full stop.

Adam does indeed have one of the common Japanese 22B's, complete with lame too-short gearing giving him a top speed approaching 118mph

Adam

You truly are one lucky guy.

I know a lot of P1 owners that would trade for s 22B any day, including me.

On the other hand, I don't know many 22B owners who would trade for a P1.

Regards

Thanks mr data,

appreciate the comments but that was not my point.

Happy,

the 22B website has info on the 22B but but also on all imprezas, it has diary sections for owners of all imprezasw and is not meant to exclude non 22B owners.

A british website dedicated to 60 (+14) or so owners? would be a bit pointless.

The Main section of 22B.com is the forum and search facilities, these are aimed at everyone not just for 22B owners. After all what would eb the point, since we pretty much know eachother anyway, we could just telephone eachother.

Chuck, **** off, its 160mph top end probably. But more importantly it gets there more manically than your lame **** piece of crap!

dennisi, this is not a here we go again,

this is a uk 22B v jap 22B argument, which I believe only ever occurs bewteen chuck and me, and is entirely repeated crap done in jest.

It is obviously staged as chuck will admit that my car is infintely better than his, so there is no point arguing!

Dunno...mine is just a standard P1 if there is such a thing...

What in your guys/Gals opinion about the back box...Does it improve performance without too much hassle or does it just make it "sound" better...

Also...Where do you all live??? I would like to compare ahemm.. mine with yours to see if mine is OK...Im from Nr Chester...

I have only had it a short time and dont really know what to look for...problem wise!!

Den

PS..If your from around that area and think you can help...P1 or Not...Please let me know!!
