Shocking story
again, as someone who doesn't know you or your family, what can I say other than, like others, I've read every post on this thread, and will continue to do so in the hope that miracles do happen.

I think there are a good many of us who feel just the same as you Steptoe.
It is a sad reflection on what things are coming to in this country as far as law and order is concerned. We are so helpless in the face of that.
I still live in hope Steph.

Yet another update - Things keep changing so fast i can hardly keep up.
Yesterday morning, after the horrendous night of spiralling brain pressure and raging temperature, the medics took him to theatre again. He now has another lump missing from his skull, but thankfully this has brought the pressure down again.
He is much nearer normal now, but saying that, they have had to drain off all the cerebral fluid, to give his brain room. His lungs are still being pumped of all the gunk in there from the pneumonia, and his temperature is very slowly coming down.
He's remained fairly stable since the op, but they're now umming and ahhing over whether he should have a tracheotomy(sp?) or not.
There's also talk of trying to reduce the coma drugs again, but everytime they do this, his pressure rises again.
I (and they) have no idea what damage the rampant pressure is doing to his brain, but i guess only time will tell. They reckon the fact that he is young and fit, is what's keeping him going.
He's nowhere near being out of the woods yet, but fingers crossed, this is a sign of things to come.
Steph
P.s. Heartfelt thanks to those that have lit candles. I check them every day and it means a lot. Thanks again x

I am so glad that the news is better than we last heard from you. He may not be out of the woods, but the improvement sounds dramatic compared to a few days ago.
Being young and fit will give him every chance, lets just keep hoping he makes a decent recovery.

Really awful thing to have happened, Appalling - I hope things improve soon and he's back on his feet as soon as possible.
I'll not say what I wish for the person responsible but I hope he gets it in spades for the rest of his miserable existance.

its a terrible thing that has happened to your uncle and heres hoping for a good recovery. i work down on the neuro ward at RPH and am always asking after paul. i have every confidence in the staff involved in his care, he is in good hands. i see amazing recoveries and hope that paul will be one of these. regards to you all, scoobdaves mrs, elaine ( and dave, of course).
hi steph not been on for a few days just read your last update hope all is well today and he is starting to feel better ive always got my fingers crossed send him my best by the sound of things he is a fighter and he will get through it with no probs
Thanks everyone. The candles are still burning strong and they mean a lot.
There is a bit of positive news! Paul is continuining to remain stable
. They are starting to reduce his coma drugs and he managed to breathe on his own for 5 mins yesterday. He also fluttered his eyelids and moved his hand, so there's progress. Pauline had a visit from a guy who spent 6 months in coma, with very similar injuries to Paul(who i hasten to add was fit and well now). He told her to talk him about things that happened 10 years ago, as it was likely his short term memory was affected, so that's what she's doing. Anything, if it will help him wake up
I havent had an update yet today, but am hopeful for yet more improvement. Am working nights at the moment but will try and keep you all posted on events.
