Not even the USA get this for long...
So they make a big annoucement about price drops, but in fact they are just selling off old stock that nobody will want once the 80gb model appears
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has confirmed with CVG that the 60Gb PS3 model is being phased out in the States, leaving the new 80Gb model as the only option for punters over the pond.
According to SCEE, the 60Gb model won't be available after July in the US, with reports stating SCEA cut the price to get rid of remaining stock.
SCEA company confirmed on Monday that it was slashing $100 off the price of the 60Gb model to $499, and that the 80Gb model will launch at the start of August at $599 - and come bundled with MotorStorm - the original cost of the 60Gb model.

Think I'm gonna sit tight and wait for a 80gb UK model with a rumblaxis - good job I've got plenty of 360 title's to keep me occupied...

Simple fact is, the price will remain static for as long as they are selling what they expect/need to.
I suspect the take up is somewhat lower than they anticipated, so it can only be a matter of time before the price drops - Hopefully around Christmas time with 80GB and rumbleaxis.

Lol
The starter pack, which is fast becoming known on fan websites as the "rip-off Britain pack", will retail for around £425. It will include a 60GB PS3 and come with two SixAxis controllers and two games, which will vary from country to country.
David Reeves, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, described the starter pack as "exceptional value"
