so what are the pluses (other than reduced cost) and minuses (if any) of this when compared with an Ecutek map?

If your ECU is mapped using EcuTek's software it is then locked down and can only be accessed by an EcuTek agent meaning any future remaps would have to be carried out by them.
If we were to remap your ECU the map is fully accessible to anyone with the correct software to access the ECU.

Minuses......none

I'm sooooo tempted to go for this.

It's just the thought of my warranty disappearing that keeps catching hold of my arm and pulling it back just as I reach for the phone....

It's like Vs.

Nige.

Default MY07 WRX Map.

Well I'm going for it mid February on my 2007 '07' WRX Just before the missus drops the sprog. It will make her drop it on the way home !!. Mailed MOCOM and they said that they could do the remap for £400 and my first year 10K service is which will be due for £99.99, even though I will of done only half that mileage. Kill two birds with one stone and getting them both done together for £500. Money well spent !!.. until I have a warranty claim..!!
