Still out on the drive funking about with the seat.
This must be the millionth time its been in and out now making little tweeks to the runners etc.
I just cant seem to get it close enough to the door sill without it touching the B pillar.
Do i just say sod it and let it touch??

we droped the inner mount by about 10mm on Mike's car today, moved the head restraint about 20-30mm away from the b pillar.
And no you do not notice it at all when in the seat, just feels a bit odd as they are now mounted much lower in the car. (look like little boys looking out over the steering wheel

)I think im gonna carefully cut a relief in the trim to allow the seat to be moved closer to the door sill.
I know Colin Chapman designed the Lotus with a offset seat/steering wheel arangement in order to move the drivers weight closer to the centre of the car and give him a better view of the offside front quarter.
However i dont think i could like with it myself?
Have you ever driven a car with an offset wheel before?
How does it feel?
Would i get used to it?
Already done that Neil. Ive tilted it as much as i dare without it looking like its tilted. Although i know i wont be happy with it if the steeringwheel is still offset to my right.

From memory, I think proper Mini's have an offset wheel, as well as very upright. Never had any problem with them.
My sprint/hillclimb kit car had seriously offset pedals but after a very short while you did not notice.
If you are at Brands Fri try having a sit in Mikes, or pop down to Ashingdon tomoro?

We have cut the lower brackets off the rails (Bride ones, not std) and moved the outer rail 50 mm nearer the door, this has allowed the seat to mount slightly between the rails instead of on top of them, and therefore much lower in the car, which maybe is were Mike has gained some advantage?

However i wasnt graced with height so i cant sit much lower as it is lol

I think im gonna get it as best i can and then trim the b pillar to suit. Besides, its only a bit of plastic that can be replaced if need be.
Have driven lotuses with offset steering frayz and as YVM said you would not notice very quickly. I would go that route first to try it.... then cut trim if you dont.

Making some sort of progress today.
I have had no choice but to create a relief in the b pillar trim in order to get the seat where i want it. Its not pretty. However, I dont really care as its not noticable when the seats in place and another trim isnt exactly expensive.
Now i have a mock up of where i feel comfortable its tim to finish the mountings and runners and get it bolted in properly.

Here you can see the gutter i formed in the trim to create the clearance i wanted.

Its finally starting to come together

Something else ive been busy with...
Heres a quick snap of my new Bailey oil/separator. Different to any normal catch can as it is fully baffled and has a proper VTA and oil return.
There are 3 inlets at the top all -10AN in size. These are for the crankcase and one each for the rocker covers.
Then there are 2 x -12AN outlets at the bottom, one on the left will return to the oilpan via a banjo mounted on the drainplug. The outlet on the right will VTA via a secondary vapour can that will be mounted next to my battery. The secondary can i am yet to make but will feature a VTA filter, sight tube and drain plug.
Oh, i wanted a purposeful look as i dont do bling so i painted it wrinkle black (motorsport finish
)
