You should go to a meet ideally, to avoid costly dissapointment.

Get your dreamergirl backside to Stainless exhausts manifolds headers H&S are really the people to speak to. I took my hawkeye spec.D up to them recently to get my burble back.

I had a deresonated centre put on (mine off my '03 wrx), a front decat pipe (my old one modded to fit - NOT the downpipe) and a H&S backbox fitted. Came away thinking it was a touch quieter than I thought it would be until I opened it up in a tunnel. Once you hit 5k rpm, the note changes into a loud sharp brrraaaap (hard to explain on the net!). Perfect for long motorway runs and outside the car, the burble is most certainly there..!! Plus, you don't end up with a drainpipe sticking out of the back of your car

Tell them what you want and I'm sure Ian will restore your burble.

What I need is to hear some of these set ups!!

Racebox is s'posed ro be pretty quiet. Ninja more throaty. How about going to a Scooby meet as Bob says ?

Oo I like the H&S combination it sounds vvvvv sexy How does it sound in the cabin - it's really the droning I want to avoid. The PPP STi I tested droned really badly at 30mph and town speeds...

I don't hear much droning in the cabin of mine from the H&S exhaust... all I can say is speak to H&S and tell them what you want and don't want. They really know they're stuff.

I'm already on Surrey Scoobies

I did go to the Fairmile but found it difficult to get to chat to anybody. Is your exhaust still on the car (so i can hear it!)?

The exhaust is now off the car but if you are after a burble with minimal cabin noise at motorway speeds then it is pretty suitable. In terms of loudness it is between a Prodrive Backbox and a Hayward and Scott Original Style..

dreamer girl, I'm following this with interest as far as I can see from other research, the TSL group N with de-res centre gets a big thumbs up and seems very good value/price compared to some other alternatives.

I'd like to fit something to my 04 plate WRX, which is currently as standard, and like you its a daily runner and I make calls in the car (handsfree of course mr plod). Other recommendation was the Revolution system which I know a few on here run also. Any thoughts on that ?

I'm also after a legit burble rather than a geet big roar. (not that I'm knocking any roarers out there you understand)

It is a Hayward and Scott De-res centre mate.

For those that want their burble back without changing the stock look of the car and without spending lots of money on a BBox, to start with just try a de-resonated centre from someone like H&S. I promise you this is the biggest difference and saves you lots of money ! It will give you back your burble without making it sound like you are trying too hard.

For example: H&S Jap BB = Price: £233.83
H&S Des Centre = Price: £99.88

Just try it, as doing both makes it MUCH louder, and more than just getting the burble back.

Depends on your tolerance level, I actually felt the de res made it smoother and less droney than the PPP set up. The BB however made it noisier, I wouldn't have said it droned though.

That's my next mod. I'm quite liking the twin exhaust now i've removed some of the badges on the boot (looks more acceptable now but not sure why ) but i'm after some of this 'burble' so i'm going to try this next.

Just ordered a Afterburner De-resonated centre section from Scoobyworld £90. If it arrives in time I will fit it to my Standard 06 STI on Sunday and report back.

So in conclusion I can either:

a) Change centre section for a de-resonated one from someone for about £100. Should make it a bit more burbly but not too much and retains the stock look to the tailpipe
b) Change the backbox to get a bit more burbly and louder than changing the centre section. Possible to retain stock look (racebox or H&S) but generally not.
c) Change both - lot louder

So to get a burble, a bit of volume and no drone, the question is - centre section or backbox.

Has anybody tried both (not at the same time)

Looking forward to the post about the centre section Scoobyweb, because the soundclip of the H&S backbox sounded verrrry sexy, and they do one which looks like the standard one...

It has arrived today (Thanks Scoobyworld), as said I will fit it Sunday (working Saturday) or if I have time I will fit it Friday. Will try and get a recording but only have the Mobile phone to do this so don't now about quality.

Ok Guy's, just fitted the afterburner centre section and have to say I'm a little disappointed. It has made only a very slight difference, not really that noticeable. It's the straight pipe as well and not the one with a resonator in. It has changed the sound a little but nowhere near as much as I had anticipated.
It has a slightly deeper rumble than before and I mean slightly. From inside the cabin I can't really notice any difference. I am not too impressed by the fit either, once it is bolted in position the hanger seems to be rotated slightly and out of line. The exhuast pipe touches the heatsheild in places as well as being very close to other parts of the underbody. It doesn't rattle though.

Ah well guess I'll have to buy a backbox now.

Chris.

Correct it is, it also weighs a lot more than the straight pipe. Even though the silencer part is very big, when you look down the pipe you can see straight through to the other end.
Not sure how baffles work but the sound definitely does not pass through anything.

As said there is definitely an improvement in sound, especially if you stand at the back of the car and someone revs it. I was just expecting more from it.

Have you changed the standard back box..? That combined with the straight centre will make a big difference. Add a front decat pipe and you're away.

I'm very very happy with my 07STi now that it has the de-res centre, front decat (NOT downpipe) and backbox. All by Hayward & Scott. For me, it was a no-brainer travelling the 1.5/2hrs up to them to get it sorted. Free fitting too.

I honestly can't recommend H&S highly enough, excellent quality kit esp for the price. Pick up the phone, you know it makes sense.

Strange that Scoobyweb, I have the same centre pipe on my car, admittedly with a racebox BB, and the sound is much better than standard.

Yes thats what seems to make the difference (Change both). People who have just changed the backbox say it doesn't make enough difference. I was told to just change the centre and the burble will return. Now as said it has made a noticeable difference but not as much as I had hoped.
Think I am going to leave mine as it is for the time being as I am going to change the whole lot for a 3 inch Miltek Jobbie in the near future.
