are you sick of triers

hehe, all of this talk of M5s, Scoobs etc... I'll shut you all up, lets go to a desert and see how you do against Thrust SSC... I part-exed a Y-Reg VW Polo and a PS2 for it.

My father bought an M3 Coupe last week, I can confirm that it is indeed quicker (quite a lot) than my Scoob (MY98 Standard). In fact it felt faster than the F355 I drove last month, but can't be certain
M5 must be mental.
(But all BMW drivers are w@nkers aren't they ? )

Buddy!!!!!
It sounds as though you think your a great driver and know everything there is to know about STI's, I say lets put it to the test!!!
Lets match a similar powered car against you in yours and see what the outcome is, whats wrong with BMW's?? A Scooby too common for ya so you thought you would buy one to follow the trend
Harj.......

Someone may have already posted this, but the M5 0-100 time is 12.7 and an STi 12.3.
not a lot in it, but the STi is faster.
Question must then be what about round the twisty bits? If I was in the STi and, say, Simon DB was in the M5, I think I know who'd win. In fact Simon would win in a 318 compact against me in an STi probably.
My point is, it's down to personal preference and one's driving ability biases the preference, eh?
Anyone want to lend Simon DB and John F an M5 and STi and we can go watch 'em round go round a track?

Can we set some rules for the fight which Mattski is trying to encourage. All the Scooby drivers get to spend the extra 40 grand they saved on their car at the local tuners. Then we can see a like for like comparison. I think that is fair and reasonable ?

Its a shame scoob's aren't fast in a straight line, as soon as the winter is over i will challenge any of you, (probably goin to eat my words)
Steve
PS never been over taken by a scoob in a straight line, actually thing Craig did as i eased off, thought i was goin to loose my bonnet.

All I can say is that although I love my STI, a new M5 would most certainly tempt me away from it
BMW's are, IMHO dynamically superior to Subarus. Sorry!
HOWEVER, Mattski is sooooo right about the value for money and bangs per buck thing. That must be why I have my STI!!

it really does come down to personal taste!
Us chaps who have Imprezas have got them for our own, sinister, reasons
The peeps who have the BMs have them for whatever reason too. I find it amazing how wound up people get over cars, myself included
This is probably because the car we choose is an extension of ourselves in some way, is it not?
I think there are a couple of ways of solving it...
1. Agree that everyone has a 'correct' opinion in their own right... YAH RIGHT!
2. Have a shoot-out somewhere safe and do the 'money where the mouth is' thang.
3. Have a limited tactical nuclear exchange (preferably targetting BMW garages
4. Agree the Scoob is the best car in the galaxy and be done with it, heck even Star Trek Voyager is a Subaru (MY4000).
I'll get me coat.

Nothing wrong with M5's. If you could afford one, why should you buy one?
Why is anything above 110/120 mph irrelevant...probably because thats when the Scooby starts to lose out?
How many gearboxes, no 3 bearings and clutches do M5's get through in its average useful life?
Another classic example of "the Scooby is best because i have one......."

This has gone waaay off topic and will soon be consigned to the muppet show. So I'll start a new thread.
What's the most 'unlikely to win' car you've ever had try it on?
I'll start 1.0 litre E reg Fiesta,
followed by 1.3 litre D reg faded blue Astra

Mine is a Yugo 45 of all things. Sad thing is the chimp who drives it has blacked out the windows, put a 'big' exhaust on it and hacked a vent into the bonnet...it is a truly hideous sight.
If you live in/around Coventry you might have seen it!

No I'm not sick of "triers" (sic) in fact I wouldn't notice one if I saw one.
What I am sick of is clowns bragging who did what once they got to 120 plus, then bemoaning "understeer" when they drive round corners too fast, or need an expert brief when they get nicked for speeding.
The authorities are on to us for "speed" (which they use as a euphemism for recklessness).
Gentlemen, not just the triers, but YOU are the problem. Wise up. **** who drive too fast, too close and inappropriately fast for the conditions (which in the UK includes 120 + even on empty motorways) can also drive Imprezas.
Why some people posting on this board think everyone on the road cares how fast they can drive their car is beyond me. The guy with the F whatever it was in the above post probably had common sense. Something noticeably lacking in some of our "posters".

A friend of mine works with someone who has very rich friends. One of these blokes took his Diablo onto a track (not in the UK). So he is driving along on the track when he sees some suped up little Fiat hatchback zoom past. He ignores it and carries on.
He comes around a blind bend and sees that the little Fiat has gone off, hit something and bounced back onto the track. Fiat is sitting right in the middle of the track broken and stationary and the Dablo cannot avoid it.
Result: One written off Diablo...
Mike - this could have been why the F360 was being careful...

Probably thought that he could blast past you, and then when he saw that it was going to require him to try with his car, he decided not to risk it.
With a £100k car that was probably the best option.
"Hello Dear. You know the £100,000 testosterone rocket that I just bought against your wishes. Well I just had a race against a Japanese saloon, and managed to write off my car as well".
DOH!!
